GIVEAWAY

Yes....a giveaway but first....

The eagle has landed

The fox is in the henhouse

It's hammer time

We bought a car.

And it was as painful as I thought it would be.

We were forced when my husband called me Friday night to come pick him up after the car would not start.  Well it's over right?  Not going to spend 2500.00 on a car that is worth 1500.00 right?

So we started researching on Saturday morning and decide to go test drive a Kia Optima and Nissan Altima.  That was our price point.

Now I am not going to bore you with all that happened..... except to say that after test driving the Optima [which is a nice car by the way] we felt like we were in something the size of a Smart car.  So we decided to test the Kia Cadenza.  It is kind of the Lexus for  "wannabes".

Which we are so not..... but we are cheap.

After sitting in the room for about 30 minutes while  "creepy salesman" fumbled around talking about options I finally said "how much buckwheat?"

He asked us if we had an hour and I said "no [after kicking my husband under the table] we have 15 minutes".  So he left and came back with some ridiculous number that made me look at him like he had the biggest baddest booger hanging out of his nose.

Really....that's your best shot.... as I said....."thank you....we are going home to research".  Good luck selling a car today dipwad.

We get in the car and my husband said "how much time are we going to spend researching Sherry?".

My answer: "you might have to rent a car before this is over".

Big sigh.  Rethinking marrying me.

Here is where it gets good and a little crazy.

I decided to look on Carmax [even though 2014 is the first year Kia has made this car] and bing flipping go I found one car in Georgia about 30 minutes away.  A demo I assumed tricked out to the fullest for 8,000.00 less [3,800 miles].

WTF.....I read that to my husband so loud his hair and lips peeled back like he had just had the shock of 15 g's on his face.

Oh yeah he was excited now.  Let's go.

"My wife is the best".

So we jump in the car....[it's 7:45 pm] and we are halfway there when I say "did you bring the checkbook?"   No....[my head snaps back cause I'm pretty hungry and tired by this stage and in no mood for silliness] we will just put it on a credit card.

It was my turn to scream again.  Think Nancy Kerrigan "whyyyyyyy meeeeeee".

Fast forward.  Of course they don't take cc's and I saved the day cause I happen to have my SHD's checkbook with me.

Or you would have been reading "woman beats husband senseless at Carmax"....story at 11.

That's that.

Back to the Giveaway.  Yup.  In celebration of 4 years of blogging....I know right!?

I have a 250.00 HomeGoods gift card for you.

Hooty Who..... Hooty Who

You know I am a fan.  Here are some reasons.

I saw this beauty the other day.  Century chair with gorgeous Schumacher fabric.

Gorgeous chest.

Pretty swanky light fixture.

Kitchen accessories for some color in your life.

In my own home I am no stranger to HG.  The green pillow shams were purchased there.

These pillows last spring for a fresh color!

I used this sunburst in my charity project

These metal baskets in a design project.

The black and white box and small wooden bowl to accessorize a coffee table.

I think you get the point.

So.....make sure you are following Design Indulgence....and leave a comment [include contact info if you are "anonymous"].

Giveaway closes on Friday.

Shacoonhound......

That is an awesome car story, I agree getting a car is PAINFUL. I spent about 6 months... until my old one just barely limped into the lot to get the new one. YAY for Homegoods, LOve that store.

Listen to me, I wish that your "carsense" would rub off on me. Like a cocky teen I am a car nut. I won't bore you but I am on the wagon right now. This is a relatively new mid-life phenomena for me. It needs to pass. Anyway, a Homegoods store opened recently near me but I haven't been able to get there yet. One way or another I am in that store soon. Since I have to pass it on the way to Husband's doctor I could drop him off and indulge myself. Would that be mean? Would that be self centered? Maybe, but he will understand. I am a fan and your posts feed yet another passion, decorating. Thanks.

Congrats on the new car purchase! Car buying can be so painful...I've walked out of many a deal because the salesman wants to play all stupid and think I want to spend all day with them. (PS...The longer they get you to stay, the more likely you'll buy from them, not because of a good deal...but because you don't want to feel like you "wasted" a day with them. OY1)

Anyhow...awesome giveaway...Happy Anniversary!

Congrats on the car purchase. I need to check out that kind of car. We are going to soon be shopping for a car or another SUV. With all the furniture I haul and stuff we take when we travel, I'm thinking we may need an SUV, though. But, ugh, car shopping is the worse. Anyway, great giveaway. So great, in fact, I think I will get out of the house and go there today! Thanks for the inspiration! (It takes so little!)

Glad you got a better deal on the car. I have been buying cheap disposable mini vans ( read old)for the last decade. Good transportation for the kids, dog & stuff. (& we can't afford or see paying 30 g's+ for a new one. )It's a real pain when they die every 2-4 years & the find-a- van search starts again. Way back ( when dinosaurs roamed the earth if you ask my kids) hubby & I bought a low mileage, lease return subcompact car- Nissan Micra . ( turned out the slime ball salesman lied & it was actually a Budget Rent a Car sale- not a lease return from a family that just had twins in addition to older kids) Turned out to be a great car. We had it for 19 years & sold it as our family would no longer fit into it at one time & bought the first of those mini vans. I hope your new car is as good as the Micra was. Love Home goods!

Since I practically keep a toothbrush at HG, I've gotta try for this giveaway! Car shopping is the WORST, which is why my husband and I are big dorks with matching cars. Nice score with the car. Oh my girl, I can always count on you for a good laugh. I just went through the whole car buying fiasco because hubby insisted on keeping my 10+ year old car with 135,000+ miles on it despite the fact that we had sunk waaaay too much into it this past year or so (think...it was on it's 3rd transmission). So, it dies...hubby can't quite part with it, but it is going to take a month or so to fix...hence, momma finally got a new car! Oh course, I had to make him and the dealer hunt high and low because if momma was getting a new car (and gonna have to drive IT for the next 10 years)...I wanted what I wanted. Yes, call me a brat! But, if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. LOL

I loved your car story. You were smart to limit the sales guy to 15 min or else he would have been back and forth going "to check with the manager". Nothing bugs me more. Just bring the manager out here and lets cut to the chase! But you did better than that! What a score!
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity. You rock!

Good luck with your new car! I bought my first brand new car in 2000. I did weeks of research and bought a Hyundai Sonata. It was such a new brand, people would stop me and ask what it was. I will never forget one very proud South Korean man who stopped me at the gas station to brag, "that car was made by MY country!" I am still driving that car, and I can't think of any reason to sell it. Although, at least once a month, someone asks if I want to sell it since it is now a "classic." Have fun with your beautiful new car! (And please enter me in your giveaway.)

Cheers, Neen

So the Carmax deal was pretty easy? We have sold two cars to them...and it was really great.

I hope I win the give-away!!! I posted my desk chair lumbar from Home Goods on Instagram and Home Goods liked it. I like Home Goods. I have to go outside of the city to get to one but I've already found a big one to the east and one to the south.

I'd like to do a post on all MY Home Good finds around my house, too.

I'd love an excuse to take a road trip to Homegoods. Our nearest store is 2 hours away, so it's hard to justify a trip there more than a couple times a year. And I feel your pain with your car story. I just had to replace the transmission in my 11 year old car, with 180,000 miles, to the tune of $4000! My husband just got a new car in August, so mine needs to last a little longer. My next one is getting nicer the longer I make this one last!

Me, Me, Me, please! Cause I too, love your blog and work, love HG, and hate creepy car salesmen! Plus, exactly who do they go talk to I the back>??? The Big Dipwadda? B
