UPDATING A BORING POWDER ROOM

Hey y'all....happy fall!  Today I might actually be able to wear a sweater here in Atlanta.....

Let's just dive right in......I am going to share my thoughts on updating this plain ordinary powder room and what I am going to do with it to make it "sing"......:)

Here she be....typical builders blah powder room!  It has high ceilings and that is about it!

Here comes the paint!

I went with BM Wrought Iron....I was going to go with SW Tricorn Black but it just seemed to severe to me so I changed it at the last minute....

The faucet was an inexpensive Delta so I am swapping it out with the same brand but in a satin gold color and I also ordered a new light fixture.

I struggled over what finish to order the light fixture in but decided to go with the dark bronze....I know a lot of the art has gold frames so I had to put the breaks on the gold....haha!

I went to my favorite flea market....Antiques and Beyond here in Atlanta and after finding 4 different mirrors I stumbled on this one and knew immediately I found the perfect one!

So next up is the art.  I wanted to do all kinds of art so I started hunting for vintage frames at many flea markets....as you know the frames are the most expensive part and it would have cost a mint to have them all custom framed!

I scored all of these in one day from a few different places!

I bought some art at Scott's Antique Market!

I also bought quite a few pieces from this amazing artist at Scotts.  You can find her on Instagram @vsidesart

This is some of the art from my first haul.....

I am at the frame shop here trying to decide which art goes in which frame and picking out the matting....

Sometimes if I like a frame but it has ugly art in it I will still buy!

I picked these up at the framers yesterday!  SO EXCITED!!

I used the Fast Frame here in Atlanta on Piedmont Road.

Still need to find a small vintage rug for this space...hope to secure this today!  The art install is Friday so stay tuned on Instagram for some pictures in Stories.....

I have to say that this client is amazing....every time I text her something her reply is "whatever you think"!  I mean dream client right!

OK....Cami has nudged me about 5 times wanting her walk.....so I must run!

Hope you all are having a wonderful week.....mine has been a bit difficult but I am trying to stay focused on the good things and I always know there are so many people who are struggling more than I am.

Always.

THIS AND THAT

Hey y'all......what a week!  We decided to try and go to Florida tomorrow since our condo is vacant and you know what that means......nope.....I am not putting on a bathing suit silly people.

It means I had to get a shit ton completed this week.  I packed in 8000 client meetings....a presentation and today hopefully I will get all my paperwork done.

Boom.

So let's recap.

Had a meeting with my first One Room Challenge client! They are moving to a new house and we are ordering a few things in preparation for that!

I did this back in 2012 and for real she has not changed one thing!

My kind of client:)

I also had coffee with artist and blogger Blayne Beacham Macauley.  I am doing a room in the Atlanta Magazine Home showhouse down in Pinewood Forrest [yes it has 2 r's] and she and I are collaborating on a piece of art for my space!  She was the sweetest and we had a great talk.....

I love her range.....

Look at this awesome piece she installed in one of Melanie Turners projects!

In Atlanta you can see her art at Anne Irwin Fine Art on Miami Circle or get in touch with her!

She knew better than to ask me what my colors were:)

Here was the groundbreaking....

I have been busy scratching my head to figure out what to do as I actually have the tower which is basically 2 spaces!  Ugh.....

We will see if I can pull this off.

I spent a lot of time at ADAC looking for fabrics to complete my presentation and ran across this wall treatment!

You know that appealed to my texture....organic addiction!

I also stopped by a project to see some of the tile applications....

And if you missed this on Instagram....there is some good stuff happening over at Target!

It might not appear I did that much but there was a lot of trivial crap that happened....you know behind the scenes stuff like curtain install gone wrong.....etc.  Ah....the joys of design!

So we are going to get one of those epic Atlanta spring weekends with temps in the 70's.  Hopefully the weather will be good at the beach:)

ARTIST ASHLEY HIZER

It feels funny not to have a deadline this morning....the last three Mondays were for Project Design and then of course on Wednesdays we have the One Room Challenge.

I feel like I have been consumed by the ORC this time.....oh who am I kidding....they always take over my life.

But for design obsessed people like us it's only natural.

I wanted to alert you to an art sale this morning.  A few months ago while I was at the Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Designer Showhouse at Serenbe I picked up this little number by Ashley Hizer.

It's no surprise that when I see some pretty blue I go into some sort of trance.  I had no idea where I was going to use it.

You saw last week that it is actually going to be hung in my ORC project.

Ashley is an Atlanta based artist and she is having a sale starting today through Nov. 3rd.

Here are a few pieces I pulled from her site.

You can go to her site for all of her selections.

Funny thing is this morning I kept trying to put one of them in my cart and it said sold.  I was pissed cause that is the one I wanted for my ORC....only to realize it was the one I had already bought.

Gah.....it's a shame I'm so clever huh.

Maggie and I made huge leaps on her room the last few days.  There are a few things I can't decide on and I am seriously feeling the pressure to pull the trigger.

Hope your week is off to a good start....

Featured artist

OK...the other day when I chucked all responsibilities and went to Scott's I saw an artist I had seen many times.  This time I stopped to talk to her so I could express how much I love her work.  You can usually find her in the South building and she is always painting away.

I found out that she lives in Florida, and comes up to do Scott's every month.  Here are a few images of her stunning work.
This is one of my favorites.  I love how simple it is, of course these ARE my favorite colors.....
How beautiful is this.  It would be great for a little girls room....
Similar to the first one.
Are you loving this as much as I am?
Love the frame on this one.
The greens and blues.  This would be beautiful with a deep dark green velvet sofa and pale, pale ice blue walls.
Put this in a bookshelf to add some pizazz.
Love the dress series.  How great in a dressing room.
Here is Cheryl painting a wedding dress....wouldn't that be a great gift to someone?
She started this one a few minutes before we began talking.......So she can paint and concentrate on a conversation......genius.  I think I am getting to the point where I am not so good at multi-tasking anymore.  I feel like a loser :(

If you are interested in pricing or something custom she can be reached at 404 966 6234.  www.cherylconnellyart.com
Call her!!!

Stay tune for some great pictures.   I also met another blogger Gretchen Opgenorth  She was recently on Nate's series House Proud!  It was her first time at the market.  You need to check out her blog if you haven't already.

My unpacking is coming along.  Slowly.  Cause I can't make decisions.

Hope your week is going great!
