2023 INTERIOR DESIGN TREND FORCAST




Hola my friends....

A few of you reached out with help to get my post delivered....thank you!

I will get on it and hopefully there is a good solution.  Blogger is kind of "old school" and most people have moved on to a better platform but as usual...here I am stuck in the "past" :)

Today I am joining some of my respected blogger friends to discuss Design Trends of 2023.


Now we know that if it is trending too hard then we actually need to stay away from it :)
The thing I like to stress to people is that the reason you hire a designer.....is to get a curated look that not everyone has....that is just my opinion....ha ha.

Anyway lets get to the reason for this post!

I am not sure I would describe these as "trends" 
per se....because things/looks actually make it full circle in design.

The first trend I have noticed and I mean EVERYWHERE are fabric covered lampshades!

They were allover in the 3 showhouses I went to during the holidays.

I found these below on Etsy....and I saw so many different sellers!

The next thing are wall murals....
There are so many out there now including peel and stick!




Morris and Co wallpaper has been front and center.   

I have seen so many designers use their papers and I have fallen in love with quite a few!

I about died when I saw this graphic on their website.....


I know...I am known for my love of black and white and I do still love it but to make it warm you really need to mix your textures!

The last thing I am seeing is brown....as in "brown is the new black" haha

And when I say brown.....that covers a lot of territory!



You can see the variations in the colors above.  Of course my favorite is not included in the above and that would be SW URBANE BRONZE.


Take a gander at it in the walls of my sisters office.


And her bookshelves.....you can see it looks different depending on the light!

DESIGN TRENDS 2022





Holy smokes....we haven't talked in 10 days....but I was roped [just kidding....love these girls]  into joining some of my "blogging besties" to do a post on Design Trends! 




You know how when someone ask you to do something and it sounds like a good idea at the time.....uh huh....well here we are.  The day before it is supposed to post and I am racking my brain about things I have seen the last few months that feel like they could last a while.

I'm here for you though.....

Right off the bat.....since we are entering into our third year in a pandemic....some things have changed!  

People are home more so we need better office space and home gyms.  While those 2 things have always been popular I feel like they are amplified and more important than ever.

More importantly let's talk about colors.....as some of you might know I live pretty close to the Atlanta Design Center [ADAC] so I am always over there scouting for fabrics and 2 times a year many fabric lines come out with new colors and patterns!

While the "all white room" enjoyed a pretty good ride and of course the "gray train" wore us out I feel [and have felt this for a while] the warm tones are back and will be around for a while.  I just painted a condo Ben Moore: Cloud Cover and it is so pretty!  Not yellow at all....just a very soft ivory.





Also jewel tones are making a comeback...and not the ones from the early 90's either.  They have been toned down a little!




I am hankering to use some of the fun patterns and colors......Also....Brown is the new Black!  You heard it here:)

I also read that Venetian plaster and lime wash walls are HOT! The walls below have that beautiful sheen from VP.

How are we feeling about dark furniture?  Well....guess what....I am pretty sure the dreaded armoire is making a comeback.  Now listen before you get all no...no...no...on me.....let me explain.

Not to hide the TV.... but as a beautiful piece of furniture to be showcased in a room.

I found all of these on Charish!





There is one designer who I know uses a dark piece in a room all the time....Daryl Carter.
If you don't have this book.....you need to get it!  

Seriously it was one of the first design books I ever bought....

Also...I think adding a vintage piece in every room is big now.  

This quote below by Athena Calderone say it best:

"Vintage is the protagonist of every room....it has the power to influence the storytelling and direction"

Rooms that do double duty....like my office which is also my laundry room.  I mean of course I would rather have a tricked out space to do my laundry in.... with 2300 square feet....I gots to make do right!

Before I sign off....I looked up some warm paint colors for you.....I'm so helpful haha.




And lookey here....these are from 2017 but still so relevant now right!






Looks like the 2021 colors are still going strong!

I was really hoping I would get to the mart before this post deadline but I am going today and should see more of what is trending!

And.... here is a cheat sheet....make a copy.....fold it up and put it in your wallet.  Then before you buy something you can take a look and make sure you are allowed.....I am cracking myself up.....

Jewel Tones but warmer with a muddiness to them
Dark wood furniture
Organic finishes on walls
Bleached furniture [still going strong]
Mixing Modern with vintage
Tradition
Hand blocked fabric
Texture
Black and White [still...but add color]
Wallpaper [yes....still happening]
*Old English Sheepdogs
*Old Ladies like me.....

OK...I just threw those last ones in to start a revolution....haha

2021 DESIGN TRENDS





I told y'all on Tuesday that I would be joining 5 other bloggers to discuss 2021 Design Trends.

And here I am at 5:15 Wednesday afternoon [that is why I am not a big dog] putting this little ditty together while I am almost positive all of the others are having a glass of wine by now because they have been finished since November.

Yeah....whiner.....party of one.

OK....I am not totally in the weeds here as I have been at least thinking about it.  That counts right?

Here goes.....get your coffee or wine and take a little break!

The first thing I am seeing a lot of is Applied Wall Trim in an architectural way.


It is a very classic look and has been around since the stone age.

I worked on 3 renovations last year and the architect called for it in a few rooms.  Now I know what you are thinking!  How do I hang pictures on it?

Next up is Painted Doors

Remember when everyone was painting their interior doors black?  I do and I still love that look as it is so classic.  But....if you are not a fan then I have seen lots of lighter colors happening lately!



Number 3 would be Wood Kitchen Cabinets.  Look I love a white kitchen....that is no secret but I am also a fan of adding some wood to warm it up.  It is safe to say that this trend started out west and has been slowly working its way to us here in Georgia.

Now this is what you might be thinking we are talking about...



OK....I know you remember this look....but think again!

Plenty of white but the wood really warms it up....

I love the look now but we all know that one day in 10 years or so we might be standing around thinking "a nice coat of fresh white paint will sell this place"  Ha Ha

Dark Houses

OK.....we have seen plenty of houses painted white [including mine] over the last 5 years.  Look I love a pretty white house and I would be OK if every house was white and we all wore white and the inside of said houses were white.....but hey that would be kind of weird..........but would it:)   

I am loving dark painted houses so hard right now.

I think a little wood or white windows also makes a dark house pretty.



If you remember I got my clients to paint the Madison Project dark and it looks so good.



Moving right along I am going with the return of Rich Color on the walls.  Again....I love a good white room but....when I see rich saturated colors like this I start to gaze up to the sky with my hand on my chin and say hmmmmmmm......

What are you thoughts on this one?

So my last trend has to do with Kitchen Backsplashes 

I am seeing a lot of kitchens without a tile backsplash.....but just taking the counter material and running it up the wall.  I have done this in a few projects and I like it.


West Of Main

I was at the Mart yesterday and both Rose and I decided we did not see any earth shattering trends in interior design but we are noticing that mixing modern with some old vintage pieces is popping on the pages of magazines.  It really helps to keep a room from feeling predictable.

I am so curious to read what is trending in other areas....so run over to these bloggers to see what they have to say!

Are you on board with these are are you scratching your head and mumbling "what is she talking about....I have been doing all of these for years".
