DESIGN BOARD

I thought I would go into some detail on my previous post which featured the work of Monique Gibson.  The room was full of beautiful neutral monochromatic furniture and accessories.

Boring for some I know.....and heaven for others [me] right?

A lot of you like that look but are not quite sure how to achieve it.  I have mentioned before that it is all about texture and  different shades of the same color.

I took one of the images and put together a board with the same look.

Starting with a modern sofa from Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams.

I love the neutrality of it without being cream or white.  The modern classic lines will always be in style.

This heather gray rug is from Restoration Hardware.  Again it is not a match to the sofa but just another layer in building this room.

I found this art from Atlanta artist Todd Murphy and it is very similar to the same one Monique used.  This create a major focal point in the room.

So here is what I came up with.

Let's look at all the different texture in the room!  There is very little pattern....pretty much just the poufs.

Sheer linen curtains with black iron hardware.
Fur throw [RH]
Different shades of solid wool pillows [RH]

Leather Chairs [West Elm] [which also pick up the same tones that are in the art work]

The poufs [West Elm]
Small metal table [Crate and Barrel]
Tall metal lamp [Wisteria]
A good mix of modern and found [the old chest] plus some added bling with the round brass mirror.

The coffee table and round wood table are from Pottery Barn.
The horse is from RH.

Of course good luck getting anything from RH....they are killing me with taking so long to get merchandise.

"Dear RH.....change something to make it easier for us to shop your store and actually receive the merchandise in a timely manner."

Just saying.

Just recently I started putting together a similar design plan for a client.

It includes my new favorite wallpaper from Thibaut.

Do you love?  Seriously the background color with the gold....shut it down.

OK...we got a little off task here and it became about me.

I hope this was helpful if you are trying to achieve this look in your own home....or you can just hire me and I will do all of the work for you.

Alrighty then.....I have to get busy and start this day.

You are so good at this look. Seriously. You're right - with neutrals/tone-on-tone, it's all about the textures and layers. I enjoy this look for others but I'm a color/pattern girl in the end. But that's why we do what we do, right? So we can live vicariously through clients?? Love it all!

What a great room off the inspiration. Isn't that art work killer? If I had a sunnier house I would have a neutral room, hands down. But I think a house in shade needs color. And the wallpaper! Gotta go look at that in person ;-)

Right on Target Sherry! I actually love your version more I think because of the sofa and the chairs you chose! Never had problems with RH before even for furniture, you must be ordering A LOT for all the delays your getting! LOL! And yes, I that wallpaper is dramatic and gorgeous!

Just used that wallpaper in a sunroom! In the silvery taupe on white. It is FAB. Love this design board, too. I appreciate a texture mix, but at the end of the day I am personally a color girl.

Agree with what Kim said - you are the neutrals Queen Bee! And I love reading how that design brain of yours works :) And yes that Thibaut wallpaper is so good. I'm challenging myself to do some neutral design in our house - maybe our master since I want to do something different in there.

OMG! That wallpaper is gorgeous! I can see it in my powder room, but first must remove the 90's Waverly floral that's in there! Hmmm, got my wheels turning in the form of a stencil!

Another great post for we, the neutral enthusiasts. I soak them up. Thank you. Great, rich combination of elements.

I was just looking at Tobi Tobin's interview at House Beautiful. Creative types need a neutral backdrop so they can think their own thoughts, and be creative, she asserts. Maybe yes, maybe no, all I know is that I am strongly drawn to the neutral, textural backdrops.

I love a neutral room. I find them relaxing. I worked hard to get a neutral great room in my current home. Not easy but I took my time, added different textures and I love it! I'm currently trying to put together a neutral but interesting master. I was thinking of stripped wallpaper but seeing your choice has changed my mind. You put together such beautiful rooms.

I would love to know the name of the Tibaut paper or the book it comes from.

Love a good neutral warm look! I know it would be hard to believe coming from me, but it's the truth! Animal art is another one of my favorites.
