SHARING A PRETTY DESIGN PROJECT

Y'all like how I ghosted on Friday?

Sometimes I get tired of myself...and I feel like talking about me is overrated and I need to shut up.

With my whining....and such.

AND....then I think well this is a blog Sherika and that is part of it.  I told someone the other day that they needed to get a little more personal on Instagram.  I don't mean "air your dirty laundry" but I feel like connection is why we are here and now more than ever.  When you see a pretty picture it makes it more personal to say a few words.....thoughts?

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  On Saturday Rose and I ventured over to Miami Circle to cruise around a few stores.  It is always good to go out and get some inspiration.....

I picked up a magazine from a year ago and saw a project that I thought was worth sharing.  I know what you are thinking....."why Sherry...... when it is a year old".....

Well I am going to tell you.

This house was built in 1923.  J. Ryan Duffy was the architect.

Look at this puppy.....classic....traditional and oh so interesting!

There is NOTHING I love more that a curated home.  I also love that the upholstery is all the same....that can really help when you want your accessories to stand out.

Look at the patina on the floors....and that special bench stacked with art.  The all white walls are not cold at all.  Every room is perfectly layered.

The corner shelving.....love it!  Filled with mementos of travels I bet.

This room is everything to me....just splashes of color......

The situation below is true perfection.  I love the color of the curtains....the chaise and art.  Just so pretty!

You can see the backyard through these windows....and y'all it is a stunner!

The landscape architect was Graham Pittman.  He is incredible and also did my neighbors back yard which is amazing.

It is so organic with all of the different shades of green.

All photography by Jeff Herr and I assume the homeowner did the interior design.

You can read the story here

So I just finished A Place Called Home and now I am sad.  I got so invested with that darn family....

But last night I started watching Ted Lasso.  OMG....I was laughing out loud.  Some of the one liners are hilariously funny.

I also lost a crown a week or so ago and I might have to have an implant....something about "if I do another crown they can't promise it will last"....blah blah blah I had already entered panic mode.

Y'all second to sleeping in a room full of spiders the dentist is the next scariest place for me. My anxiety level goes through the roof.

It's always something right?

I understand perfectly about the dentist. My teeth start hurting before I have to go for a cleaning. And then they give me something to numb my gums before they clean. I think it’s because I have been going to the dentist since I was three and that was half a century ago. Anyway thank you for keeping it real. I appreciate that.

I can’t get enough of these homes built in the 20s, and I am very tempted to move into one I have my eye on here! The thing is, now that ‘open concept’ is no longer considered THE end all, it may make sense for resale as folks use their home in new ways. You will never talk to much about yourself on this blog. We will always want more. We just will, and I do t even think it is for unhealthy, creepy reasons. We are looking for authenticity and universal truth, and we feel joined when we find it. Next time you get tired of yourself, give me a holler, and I will send over questions and we’ll make it a stream of consciousness conversational interview. But you truly do t need any help from me with your killer writing voice. Your crown. My honey is going through this so I get it. Dentistry has come a long way so take heart and keep us posted. You are loved so dearly, Sherry. Thank you for sharing your heart.

First, one of the reasons I love your blog is it is personal. So many blogs I no longer read because they went all corporate on us, now they don't feel like a friend talking to us any longer. You feel genuine in your language.
The house is lovely. While I generally don't admire a mansard roofline, this one works. The corner shelves are hip and modern!

Dentist...Spiders...Spiders....Dentist!!!!
I feel the same as you.

Love your blog:)

PS PS I also lost a crown, and need a implant!

Your personal posts are part of the reason I love your blog. I agree with Michele (comment above)! I want to know how you are doing, not just what you are doing.
This is a beautiful home, but my favorite thing is the stone walk way. I've always wanted one, oh and a chaise and...

Keep on posting!

Great inspiration in that house! Ugh, the dentist is the worst! I would rather go to my OBGYN! At least she doesn't tell me I'm falling apart and need to do several new treatments each time I see her. Yikes!

I love your posts - don’t ever change! I’m with you. Dental visits are THE WORST and I like my dentist!! My daughter had to have something done today and I about fell apart. At some point I need to put on my big girl panties and go but I might invest in gummies like Marilynn suggested above!

I love your blog. I just found you yesterday. Love your style - personal and decorating - and wry sense of humor. I agree about the dentist. I'm 66 and it seems their practices are still as dreadful as they were 60 years ago.

Your blog is perfect. You share with us as a friend. It's a friendship that I cherish. I love to check in to see how you're doing, and as an incredible bonus, I get to see your amazing talent on display. Don't change a thing. I love every post. What I do NOT love is the dreaded dentist. There's no anxiety like a pre-dentist appointment anxiety. Ugh. Spiders? I just squash them. :)

Sherry, obviously everyone feels like I do. Whatever you put out there is worth seeing and knowing. Love to hear your feelings and what’s going on personally. Anyone who’s gone through a Divorce is here for you and if you wrote a book about it we’d all buy and read it. This house is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. I’d love to see more but I think you forgot the link. The colors, floors, layout....so lovely.
You keep on being you Sherry. We’re all here for it! Good luck at the dentist.

I really enjoy your blog. Your decorating style is fabulous and you have a wonderful sense of humor. Actually I would prefer spiders over the dentist. I have such a fear of the dentist visits that even for a cleaning I have to be gassed up. I have sat in the chair in complete fear and shake so much that before I am gassed and had a shot I have a blanket over me to calm me down. Yikes. It is the worst time for me. Good luck at your dentist appointment. I do feel that some of the dentist procedures have gotten better over time.

Sherry...the house is beautiful...would love to have that beautiful backyard. Don't let the dentist pressure you...implants are funding dentists "retirement" LOL Seriously...how long has the old crown lasted??? Good dentists will still do a crown. Love your blog!!!

Ditto---I'd go with the crown. Better than drilling into your skull ! I did that and the post fell out after three years....I called a moratorium on any more cranial drilling and got a bridge instead. Six years and still humming along.

Hi Sherry! Love your blog but I don’t often comment. Based on a horrific childhood dental incident, I’ve always had a total fear of any procedure and therefore taken fabulous care of my teeth!. I had a root canal done 20 years ago by the new guy my beloved dentist brought into his practice and the new guy - messed it up. My beloved dentist fixed it and it held until a few months ago. We’ve moved around in 20 years and I have always found excellent dentists based on those two experiences. I am a great patient, very cooperative and all that but found out from the top endodontist that another root canal could not be done and the tooth (dear old #14) would have to come out and I’d need an implant. I almost died. My husband thinks he is a comedian and showed me the You Tube video of the guy negotiating a price for having a tooth removed...this did not help. Long story short, yesterday I went to the oral surgeon and because I am the biggest chicken - I had the IV sedation. I did not hear one sound and have no recall of anything. In and out in one hour. She also did the prep work for the next step of the implant process. No pain at all yesterday and none today. But, I’m milking the recovery for one more day...just because! Good luck!

Hi Sherry, Just another voice to add to the chorus!! Please never stop being you! Such a disappointment that the era of personal blogs has mostly ended. I cherish yours for so many reasons (YOUR TALENT, YOUR STYLE, YOUR HUMOR, YOUR EYE.....) but I especially love the personal wisdom, vulnerability and truth that you share. I am also in my 60's and we have to remember that speaking our truths without hesitation is so empowering for other women, especially those younger than us who need us to set a good example. I am so grateful that Michele of My Notting Hill introduced me to your blog years and years ago and that we even got to meet up for Scott's and a house tour while she and I were visiting from DC. I am one of your biggest fans and have been so thrilled for all of your many successes. May 2021 be a keeper for all of us!! xo

Where is that lovely house located? The neighborhood looks so lush with all the huge trees and shrubbery. I can't imagine going from that to the desert of Arizona like so many people who are moving to after retiring. Gorgeous!

Love everything about the featured home!
How many crowns can one replace for the price of an implant? And, neither are guaranteed. My first crown is 28 years old. The only one I've had to replace was done in 2017 and broke after two years. There was no discount from the dentist. (I'm your age, so deteriorating teeth is a fact of life. Sigh.)

Can’t believe I missed this post because I’m over the moon about this house! Perfection at its best and so timeless you could see it in 10 years and it would be just as fabulous. I agree that sharing personal experiences and feelings are a big part in what makes a blog work. And we all need to share the good and the not so good to give each other a boost to see that everyone has crap in their lives and it’s OK!
Deep breathes at the dentist, think how good it will feel when it’s over. DI is forever in my top 3 fav blogs!
