OK.....drumroll please....the winner of $100 to HomeGoods and Lewis & Sheron Fabrics is
Carol Wilson
How appropriate as Carol has a great Etsy site where she sells beautiful pillows! You can bet she is going to get some great fabrics and make eye candy right away:)
For those who didn't win I know how you feel....I have never won a giveaway. I know what it is like to walk around all day with your lower lip sticking out.....
The other day I was reading Flower magazine and ran across an article about Rachel Ashwell. I doubt there is anyone who does not remember how she burst on the scene with her "shabby Chic" California look. She made it OK to paint all the walls and furniture white.
Rachel opened her first store in Santa Monica in 1989 [crikey 25 years ago!] and wrote 8 books.
She was known for faded florals....white slipcovers and romantic look.
In 2008 during the bad economy she closed her stores.....but she is still going strong with a Bed and Breakfast called The Prairie a 46 acre property located between Austin and Houston.
She still looks hot right?
It is available for weddings, conferences and retreats.
Here are a few images of The Prairie.
She decided to keep the original wallpaper and I for one think it works!
This is her own bedroom...love the blush silk curtains. And I kinda like that there are less accessories......
I can still get into the look.....although I lean towards a little more modern in my shabby chic.
I tried to find some examples....
There isn't much modern in this one but the accessories are kept to a minimum.
I also love using large impactful accessories....
Again....accessories kept to a few and mostly monochromatic.
Skona Hem
In a white room....some black [in the vintage picture] helps to ground the space. It is such a statement focal point and keeps it from being too predictable.
I love that the ceiling is painted high gloss as that adds a more modern look to this space.
Another example of modern country by Jimmy Stanton. Instead of all white he used a darker more moody color but I love the vintage picture over the mantel and that mustard throw.
Again most of this room is casual shabby but the fireplace is modern.
Yikes....I went from shabby chic to modern country. That is how my brain wanders.....
I think if there is a lot of pattern in the room by way of fabrics then you need less accessories....just my opinion for what it's worth.
I could ramble on and on about this look.....but y'all have things to do.
**I tried to find credit for the images....most of them came from BH&G website.
Reminder....4 more days until Netflix returns with the last 6 episodes of The Killing!
