ONE ROOM CHALLENGE

Week 4 of the ORC.

I hope you will forgive me for not having more to show you today.  Last weekend when I should have been working on my project, I was [as you know] grieving.  I just did not have the energy or focus to get some of my projects done.

But being the magician I am...... you are in luck cause I have grabbed a few images and tried to edit the hell out of them to complete my assignment.

I hate letting people down:(

That just means that next week will be epic.

We finished painting the drop leaf table [ it isn't styled yet] but not the coffee table.  The 9 x 12 seagrass rug arrived from Overstock.

The "bunny" painted the bookshelves and I started styling last week.

before

after

You can see that the tape is still on the wall....We are such impatient fools.

The curtains were hung a while ago but I thought I would have more time to get better pictures.  That will teach me to procrastinate.

The hide [from Scott's Antique Market] was layered on top of the seagrass.  One of the reasons why the coffee table hasn't been painted is I am still trying to figure what the hell I want it to look like.  If we win the lottery by next week then you can be sure we will use this for firewood and I won't have to wrack my damaged brain another second.

We also started throwing pillows around.  This is probably not the final display so don't get attached.

I promise next week "bookshelf styling" and soooo much more.  Since this is such a dark room I am having trouble taking good pictures and I need to do it early in the morning for the best sun.

Again, I have to say thank you.  I know how busy everyone is with kids, school, work, fall festivals, design, and just plain life.  Taking time to reach out to me with your own stories of losing your pet has left me utterly astonished.  It was a feeling of being wrapped in a warm quilt, drinking a cup of tea while someone rubbed your head.

I don't care what "Martha" said.....bloggers are the best!

Please take the time to visit all the hard working ORC participates today.  I know they would really appreciate it.

 Shagrateful

I'm with Karena. Was just thinking I kind of like the coffee table, as is (after you work your styling magic, of course...). I like that your sister allows you to call her "Bunny." :)

I agree with the comments so far on the coffee table, keep it as is, but if you find something better, I'll be happy to take it off your hands;)

So sorry about your pooch. Martha is a complete ass. I know someone who interned for her and you would not believe the stories of her treatment of people. The room is looking great. I'm sure sis is thrilled.

I was thinking along the same lines as the others, I really like the wood coffee table! Looks like the finish on the top might be damaged, but you could sand it down a bit and strip the entire piece. Then, with just some clear wax or poly it would have such a natural rustic look!

Yep, bloggers are the best - which you know includes you! The room is looking beautiful.

Love the color you painted the book shelves! Also, the way you styled shallow book shelves. We have a lot of shallow ones in the new place in SF and most of my books are so big. This is looking so pretty...you sister must be excited.

Love what you have done so far. I too kinda like the rustic look of the coffee table as is. I also think it might look good painted lightly and sanded down to cover any imperfections there might be. I know you will style it beautifully.

Sherry,
I'm so sorry that you've had to go through losing your sweet pup. It's something that is so hard to go through and you'll always have sweet pics and memories.
Can you tell me where you got the bamboo blinds , they look great.
Have you thought of adding liming wax to the coffee table? They sell it at woodcraft in Alpharetta. It's so easy and quick!

Oh my goodness. I'm sitting here once again in tears thinking that if I could wrap you in a hundred blankets I would. You have been through something to difficult to describe. And in other news, the room is looking great!. My pitiful little gauze curtains look sick next to those!

I can tell you're going to do it to me again. I'm feeling the need for color and BAM you come up with a killer neutral space that leaves me wanting to ditch my pops of color! :)

You always create the most amazing spaces, Sherry! I did read the post about the loss of your sweet doggie but didn't comment. I have been there. It's tough, but you gave him the best gift - he was loved! Stay strong!

Secondly I am including a post on liming that's what your coffee table needs. Looking forward to the next
installment Sherry.I am so sorry for

According to Martha "bloggers are not experts" lol. Well, I appreciate some bloggers much more than the Martha Stewart machine. Sometimes I'd just like to bitch slap some of her pompousness off her.

As for the coffee table I think I'd like it with some sanding done to it.

Bethany [at] Powell Brower Home said...

k im pretty much dying over the window and sofa styling here. serious skillz sher. i love the cozy throw, the fuzzy pillow, the betwixt and the drape fabric on the sofa. you are genius.

Amanda said...

looking good! Those drapes are everything!! what about painting that table a dark dark charcoal-in a flat finish? mix the Annie Sloan charcoal w/ a tiny bit of old world white. ???

You did such a great job pulling it all together. I love the fabric for the curtains. I am sure the room is going to turn out great.

My vote is to paint the coffee table glossy black and to go out and get another dog ASAP. Not as a replacement, of course, because you can never replace a beloved pet, but because your sweet pouch would want you to continue to have a companion that makes your heart swell. -Caitlin
