A NEW SLIPCOVER......shhhhh.

In case you can't tell....I am whispering.  I don't want my husband to hear.

Here's the dealio.  My LR sofa had gotten pretty much trashed the last few years with my dogs.  Gotta love em...but they will mess up yo stuff.

There is this one side right by the window where Zipper likes to stand...waiting for SOMEBODY to come home.  Anybody.....I just want my peeps here.  BUT.....while I am here let me rub up against and slobber all over this sucker.

Here is the deal.....I decided to put a sheet over it about 2 weeks ago.  Like I was trying to protect it :)  That was just to trick the eye.....because I had something in mind.

Before I got the dogs, I was all ready to recover it in white linen.

Yep.

Bought the fabric and everything....but for some good reason I could not pull the trigger on that one.

So I had it done in a brown linen.

Thank you Jesus.

But....I could not take it anymore so I called my slipcover guy Jim Brown.

He is the one I told you about who comes to your house and does it.  Brilliant.

Here she be.  At first I was thinking I would paint the legs black and have no skirt.  But....I am a little old school in the fact that nothing else has a skirt in the room...so I needed the softness.

We cut off the skirt to help me visualize.

This is the same sofa I have had for 20 years.
Here is the before from that long ago.

It was all tufted madness.  So I had those puppies removed [5 years ago].  Yeah...I know...tufting is BACK.  But people....seriously dust and other critters will get caught in those holes.

Jim started at 9:00 AM.  Here he is pinning and cutting.

Meanwhile I had to run a few errands.

I happened to be in the West End area of Atlanta and well I popped into Jonathan Adler.  Lookie what I saw......

Very similar to this from the Atlanta Show House.

See those furry benches????  Oh by the way, this is the last week to go!  It closes on Sunday.
Here are a few pictures that I left out from the first time around.

The guest retreat designed by Christy Dillard Kratzer and Heidi Pierce.

Can you see that wallpaper?
Another view.  The wallpaper people....

Believe me when I say...you must go.  Now.  Today.

Oh yeah...I am really bouncing here.
Back to JA.

I am loving this sofa....the arms...the legs.....

The tufted look...I know...I know....don't get me wrong....I love the way it looks.

I love this fun chair.  Man cave.....

Oh yeah...back to the sofa.

He brings everything.  Even his lunch.

Amazing......
3:30...finished.  6 1/2 hours.  Smack down.
That is all you are getting until I get it all fluffed up.....

It is still covered with a sheet :)

Jim is having a sale [10% off] if you schedule before June 30th.  770-516-0841.  His email:  jim@slipcoversonsite.com
Web site:  www.slipcoversonsite.com

On another note....here is a before picture of a bath I am working on....
I guess you could say....we got some work to do here....

Inspiration picture....

I got this picture from Jenna Sue.  They did this on a budget so go check it out!  Only problem is this vanity [which comes with the sinks is 59"].

Needs to be a double vanity.  58 stinkin inches.  Most every one I have found is 59.  Might have to go custom.

Like how I went from slipcovers, to the show house, to Jonathan Adler, to bathrooms.  That's how I roll.

What chu up to today????
I am on beach countdown....5 days.

Sha Boom

so does he make house calls to Richmond? As in Virginia? I know I can get my mom to book too :) This really looks fantastic and I agree with you about the tufted. Looks smashing but ends up with more dirt and cheerios than I care to clean. Can't wait to see it all finished. You've got me wanting to add some skirts to my couch and chairs now! Oh, and am dying over your lucite coffee table I spied in the background of one of the action shots. Okay, enough!

If he came to my house to cover my sofa, I would be watching him like a hawk! I love learning how to be a better sewer.
I wish he made house calls to the burbs of Chicago.
How's your dog, BTW? Any news?

The white slipcover looks SO pretty! I actually just got a couple white slipcovers for our club chairs in the mail last night (the UPS guy was way late!). They aren't all sexy and made-to-order, but I'm going to do my best to make them look good. I just wanted to bring some bright beachy loveliness to the living room (since my beach countdown is more than two months!)

You have such great syle!

That sofa is going to look awesome! I can't wait to see the afters.

I must go to the showhouse, home again with a sick boy :(
Love the Adler shots, too, I drool in that shop! See you at Scott's? I'm going with a client on Thursday. Beach countdown 2 weeks 3 days!

I want that sofa feller to come to my house...next year. Will keep the info. I love your bouncy self...I get it!

You are cracking me up with your sentiment about tufting and stuff getting in there! A slipcover seems like the right thing to do with dogs and kids in a house, can't wait to see the styled, finished product.
PS I love when you bounce around...it's kinda how I think!

Fantastic!! This sofa has appeared to serve you well for many years. And, can I come to the beach with you? Janell

Damn girl, you just described my dream day. A man who comes to your house and slipcovers things in one day! How do you not kiss him when he comes over?! And I'm loving that touch of lucite I saw in there as well. Can't wait to see the couch all done.

I could use Jim but I'm afraid he'll charge me extra for the drive. You crack me up being all over the place but to be honest I think most people have days like that. Can't wait to see your revel!

You've got it all in Atlanta... Scott's, JA, and Jim! Can't wait to see your sofa all fluffed... I'm sure it's fabulous!

If it weren't so far from Hotlanta to southeastern NC, I would have him on speed dial! Looks so beautiful and I totally agree with you about the skirt...it adds softness and elegance, but totally rocks with the rest of your decor. Can't believe you've had that sofa for 20+ years! Beautiful...

We used to have a woman here that would come to your house to do slipcovers and she was AMAZING and so reasonable! Sadly, she passed away and no one has taken her place! Does Jim go on the road?

I know I'm going to love it! Can't wait to see your magic in that bathroom!

Lou Cinda :)

Can not even get over that the slipcover dude does that on site in one day - incredible!!! I already love it- can't wait to see the final afters...oh and those furry benches are TDF!

That's hysterical w/the sheet - maybe your husband won't even notice.

On another note - I know it will be a life regret that I didn't cough up the money for a ticket and come down to see that show house!

Love your slip and if I ever get one I will contact him. I do want to do something to the red sofa in the sitting room. I'm thinking velvet. No time to go to the show house this year.

Slipcover-envy is what I'm feeling right now. I'd love to know what weight linen is used for that project. I have 80 yards of tissue linen on the bolts, but feel it's too lightweight. What's your opinion on that, please?

Want more about the couch...what did your husband say? I have two off white cotton blankets I use to cover the sofas...until one of my designer friends pops in and they come off with tornado like speed.

I want Jim to eat lunch at my house! I love the way you jump around. That is why I come - plus you always have the best projects going.

WOW, what a fantastic service he provides. Love the embossed wallpapers, the JA bench and especially your new slip! You are sh-awesome!

You are so funny. I wish Jim would come to Chattanooga - heck, I'd buy him a hot lunch - or make him one, whatever he prefers. I am dying to know about the slipcover/dog situation. I have a black lab mix that lives on the sofa and I want to slipcover it white so bad!!!! And I agree, you have some work to do in that bathroom.....

can NOT believe that dude works so well and so fast. can't wait for the fluff up. donna

Love it...slipcover delivery! That is amazing. I can't wait to see the finished product. I'm sure I'll be very jealous and start planning my own covert slipcover operation. ;-)

LiveLaughDecorate said...

Oye, can Jim relocate to Miami? Because ya gotta be kidding me that he can work that kinda magic on site.
Too much yumminess at that Jonathan Adler store.
And thank heavens you're about to rescue that bathroom from it's dark and sad little life. Custom it seems for that 58" or reframe them walls with a slighter thinner drywall? I'm just saying....good luck and now I shall try to go find a remedy to unspin my head after jumping all over the world in your crazy yet amazing post.

Sherry, so funny. I love the way you write. The short blurbs...just how I think.

Can't wait to see the finished product. Does he make trips to Houston???? I've never seen someone do it in place. He's going to be sooooo booked. Sweet.

The dogs are just too much aren't they? I have two slobbering babies myself.

I love how you put the sheet on to "trick the eye" too funny! I would love to have someone come by and whip up a slipcover in my home, what a great idea. I know you will whip up that couch into something fabulous like you do! I always love your pillows!

Your slipcover guy is such a treasure. How I wish I knew of his equivalent in Dallas! My tiny Maltipoo and my giant ragdoll cat have made our family room upholstery look a mess. And we have a brand new JA store in Dallas! I went there Saturday and took so many photos! Crazy gorgeous.

I hope you at least talked to Zipper about this and told him he wil never-ever be allowed on the creamy gorgeousness of this beautiful, delicate linen slipcover. Remember the sheet? It's there for life! Keep that sucker off the sofa or we'll be hearing' about it!
Cheers!,

I have two Drexel chairs that I picked at a thrift for $5 each and he would only charge 95 to slipcover them! Woot! I think that would be perfect for my dining room!
