WHAT HAPPENED

Y'all....I am just popping in to tell you what happened to me.

Last Sunday I started feeling very tired...and I had some chills.  I ignored it.  But come Monday same thing and it seemed to come and go.  I assumed it was Covid.  On Thursday I went to get tested and they said I would have the results in 2-4 days.

Thursday night was pretty bad....low grade fever...chills, headache and bad night sweats....

I woke up Friday morning and was very weak.  I let Cami out and then headed to get her food which is 25 steps away.  That is the last thing I remember as I woke up on the floor....I passed out and was vomiting.  I didn't even know where I was.  It took me 2 hours to crawl back to my bedroom which is about 30 steps away [all one floor].  Y'all I was so sick...my whole body ached.

I had a horrible headache.  I was convinced that it was Covid although I had no chest congestion at all.  I had some neighbors walking Cami.  I could barely walk.

The nights were the worst.  The headache was killing me and I felt like I was hallucinating.  I thought I saw Cami through my door standing in the family room barking. I had nightmares and I woke up completely soaked every morning.  Finally on Sunday afternoon my friend showed up to take me to the ER.

You guys....I have never been to a hospital except to visit people.  I was so frightened.....and no one can come in with you.

They started all kinds of testing.  They retested for Covid [negative].  After about 3 hours of testing my friend texted me a reminder to tell them about the Tick bite on June 1st.  Y'all....I think that was it.  It was a Lone Star Tick which is very common in the south.

They did also perform a test for Lyme also but have not gotten those results back.

I was released around 6 pm on Sunday night with a prescription.  I'm still very weak.  I can barely walk....the bottom of my feet hurt and I am still having bad night sweats. The headaches are brutal.

I am hoping that by tomorrow after 48 hours on the meds maybe I will have some clarity.  I was also told to see an Infectious Diseases doctor.

So that is why I disappeared.  I hope to be back soon....it took all my energy to pull this together.

Thanks y'all.

Oh gosh that sounds awful. My mom had similar symptoms and then they diagnosed her with shingles. Took a few days before the bumps first started to appear. Mentioning in case some of the tests come back negative, or if you see a rash. Hang in there. I’ll be sending prayers for healing!

I’m betting dollars to donuts it’s the tick!
They are nasty little creatures
Living in New England we all know the fear of tick bites and Lyme disease.
I hope they figure it out for you and you feel better soon.
Glad it’s not Covid

Sending you wishes you feel better soon

Hate those ticks! If it was a lone star, you have to watch for a meat allergy (which can be deadly with an anaphylactic reaction). I’m so glad you had someone taking care of Cami and bringing you to the hospital. I hope you recover soon. So sorry!

So sorry to hear this. Oh my gosh, how terrifying for you. Yes, thankfully you weren't injured when you fell. Whew... so glad you did go to the ER for the attention you clearly need/needed. Right thing to do. So hopeful that it is something that will just be a bad patch and nothing more serious, although you symptoms are certainly no joke. Rest and do the best you can. And reach out to your neighbors/friends... terrible to be or feel alone, especially when ill.
Take good care of yourself. Thinking of you and sending all healing energy your way. Hope you are back to yourself as soon as possible.

SHERRY. I'm with you. This is going to pass. You're going to feel better. I'm praying and holding you in my heart. It doesn't matter that I am many miles from Atlanta. You know I am no stranger to suffering, and you also know a lot personally about overcoming. Open your heart to allow the grace and healing already on their way to do the work as you rest. Wow, glad you went to the hospital and hope the abiox (doxycycline ?) kicks butt...the tick bacteria, not yours.
Praying you feel better very soon! Definitely follow up with an infectious disease doc knowledgeable with tick borne illnesses. Have friends who have greatly suffered for years.

I have been wondering why you had not posted, and am glad you let all of us know what happened. Save your energy for getting well; and as others have said: we will all be here waiting for both your humor and designs when you are strong and well again.
There are total strangers out here that miss and care about you. I know that may be little help as you walk into a hospital on your own, but do know that we are here.

Sending love and healing to you, Sherika!! We know how tough you are but glad that you have loving family and friends to see you through this challenge. This is life and we have all been there. The doxycycline worked wonders for me after a tick bite but then I got a UTI from the doxy. so keep that in mind. Your readers will be here when you feel better so put the blog out of your mind while you recover. Great days are ahead! xoxoxo

That sounds terrible! Wishing you a speedy recovery. As they test, be sure to have them include other tick-borne diseases, not just Lyme. Ehrlichia comes with some of the same symptoms you described. Hoping for an accurate diagnosis and a good outcome!

Holy Crap, you poor woman! How frightening. Please take care and let us know. When you told us about the tick removal, I’ll admit, I immediately wondered about Lyme disease, and how transmissible it is. I hope this day lands gently

Sherry!! What in the world?! The tick bites scare me so much. And this is a reminder I need to be better about checking my kids after they play outside. Will pray for your quick and complete recovery. (And that the rest of this crazy year is a very very good one for you!)

Sherry - So glad you are OK. My wife sent me this article because one of our jobs is to get the word out about tick borne diseases. Hard to believe that's a job but it is. I so appreciate you sharing your story with others. And your friend, remembering to tell the doctor about you being bit by a tick, well that was just awesome. It's also great that all of your readers are now more aware and telling you how they will be more vigilant about checking themselves and their kids when they come back from any adventure (I know this can be daily for many people, especially in the summer) that has them tromping through the grass as that is where ticks hang out waiting for mammals - people and dogs/cats - to wander by so the ticks can feed on them.

I see that you are in Atlanta. Us too. When you feel better and are ever by Decatur you should stop by our parking lot and see the "Tick Trucks" aka "Lymosyines" we have parked out front. They are literally vehicles that we drive to parks, trail heads, soccer fields, dog parks, etc (Toyota FJ's fully covered in artificial grass and 3ft ticks made of fiberglass). A picture of you in front of the trucks would make a great addition to any future updates on how you progress. We are always trying every avenue possible to get the word out about tick borne diseases so thanks for reading this and for your post.
