THIS AND THAT

Remember me?  Yep.... kind of fell off the grid there for a moment but it's summer so I am sure no one noticed:)

We took a little spin up to Chicago [Naperville] to to visit my husbands Dad who is 98 but first we dropped off Cami at her favorite "home away from home"!

Where I can safely say my phone battery dies everyday while I am watching her on "doggy cam":)

Her best friends Mom sent me this....

The cutest huh?

We stayed at Hotel Indigo right on the river and it was very nice!

Y'all.....this visit was just a little depressing.  20 years ago I might not have felt that way but at my age......I see reality looming in the future.....

And I am not happy about it.  This is not what I have in mind.....

Lined up in wheelchairs watching [and I use the term loosely] movies, and playing bingo.  In your room you have a bed, chest and chair.  So look around and drink in all of your pretty decorating because in the end.....it's not gonna really matter.

I think I need to stop exercising because I do not want to live this long.  Here is the text I sent my sister....

I noticed that the ratio was 10 women to 1 man living there and same with the caretakers.  I turned to my husband and commented how important "we" [women] are to society.

This is how I closed out that night....

We saw lot's of family....my brothers daughter Cat who lives in the city.  Since we live in Atlanta we drive everywhere and decided to drive into Chicago....what the heck were we thinking?  And that is what everyone said to us.  Stupid tourist.

And how ironic that I picked up this book to read....it's good but of course you know how it is going to end which is sad.

Are y'all ready for some good news yet?  I mean right?

Well next Monday one of my projects is getting photographed for Southern Home!

It's owned by Hoffman Media and I am pretty pumped!

I went house hunting with a friend....which I could do everyday all day.

All stairs will now be painted white with cute runners [this one from Dash and Albert].  It won't hurt to have brick floors at the bottom either.

This homeowner painted these dining room walls.....yes please.

Of course I love a good gallery wall but grids are my jam....

The one she ended up purchasing had these window treatments in the bedroom.....we were all fighting over them until she turned and said "um I'm keeping these babies"....

Oh yeah....of course....right.

AND.....you might notice that I had a little blog refresh!  My favorite girl Shari from Little Blue Deer worked her magic!

I like to just call her up and say "do your thing".....

OK....enough about my life.  Back to deliveries, design plans and getting through the Atlanta humidity with my hair.

Oh girl, you had me cracking up. But, if it's any consolation...my precious FIL lived to 93 and my MIL 98 and until a couple days before were living in their OWN home!!
And those stairs...our back stairs are painted, but dark...now I want to paint them white!!

Hi, You could also use those stairs another way, oops!! No nursing home! On the bright side, my neighbors are 88 and 90, got married 5 years ago, garden, just had a 70 year school reunion and go out more than me! Her 3rd husband, his second wife. I help them with their iPad! Best to you and Cami! Denise

Congrats on the mag feature! Also, my grandma is in a nursing home and while it's not my taste (far too heavy on the 2000's traditional) it's very well appointed, and the finishes are nice! Each resident has a little apartment to decorate with a small kitchen and living room- you won't be stuck with bad design as long as you save your pennies since it can be a little pricey.

How great that Cami looks so happy and settled. Loving those white stairs. And congratulations on the mag!!!

My 92 year old mom lives with my sister and they have the best time together... that's one of the reasons that I am in So. Cal. so often. My friend, Netta and I are hoping to have a disco night when we are in the nursing home together!

Ok, Mom is 101 1/2! In Assisted Living in her own apartment. Until last year I would say a good quality of life. Have decided for myself that 95 is my personal max and it's a reasonable goal given the gene pool in which I swim. On Mom's side her eldest sister was 103; dad passed at 90.

oh, I love Cami in camp!!! It's a dog's life! Such a sharp contrast to the nursing home image. We treat our furry family better than we treat our elderly family. I worked in a nursing home when in high school. It was very depressing. Constant work for me, bathing, feeding, changing, wheeled into the dining room...all for what. It seemed so pointless, devoid of any joy.I so agree...what's the point of taking care of yourself to extend life if that is life.

Sherry, I have to thank you for this post! I couldn't agree with you more, I hope I won't live that long either. This morning, my dear mother-in-law passed away, 1 week from her 98th birthday. The last several years of her life were not what I would call "wonderful" but we were more than happy to take care of her. These days, people live so much longer than they used to, which I'm not sure is a good thing in a lot of cases. My sister-in-law and I have a pack to save up enough meds so when the time comes, we'll hold hands and have a last cocktail!

That said, that doggie hotel looks so fun for your pups. My husband has relatives in Naperville too, but we've never visited there. Congratulations on the Suthern Home photo shoot. Please let us know what month to watch for to see it. I know it takes months though.

I'm mad about that runner and the white steps! Exactly what I want to do on our stairs. I, too, love house hunting!

Best,
Gail

We all end up in the nursing home, sadly, unless that proverbial good luck lightening bolt of quick death hits.

Not being morbid - just keeping it real. Enjoy the smallest and simplest of things.

After going through declines and end of life with older relatives, I had a prayer I would say: Dear God, please let me die before I get old, just not today.

98? That is amazing, I just don't think I want to live that long, in a wheelchair? My dad is 86 and had some balance problems so he used a walker for a bit, I hated seeing that, now he is better and using a cane, he is just so damn frail, he keeps getting smaller. He lives at a independent living facility and he loves his independence and his girlfriends, ha!

By the way, what goes on with that drink picture and that white powder, haha!
