CURTAIN TREATMENTS 101

I feel like the world has kept a secret from me.

What am I talking about you ask?

Mad Men.  Yep.....I remember all the fuss about it but I guess I was too busy developing my obsession with pillows to take note:)

Well that's too bad because this show has captured my attention like no other.  I was looking for something to binge on over the weekend and decided to watch one episode.

Stop the world.....because I am obsessed with Don Draper.  What a complicated moody man...looking for perfection and happiness but seemingly sabotaging it at every turn.

The fashion, the decorating......and the way the 60's saw women.  Dayum....were we that simple?

I highly recommend this one even though I am only through episode 10 of 13 in Season One.  I could not be more excited that there are seven seasons for me to get through.

On Friday I had a pretty big curtain install so I'm going to give you the down and dirty on window treatments!

Let's start with the family room....

This room has a beautiful view and lot's of windows.  If I just filled it up with furniture it would still look and feel a little cold.

My choice in this room is using scrim...which by definition is a light gauzy fabric.  Think sheer linen.....something to keep it cozy but still let the light in.

Now here is the advantage of this treatment....it keeps the cost down.  Fabric price is reasonable and the labor [no lining] stays moderate. So it's a win.....win.

I normally use a white linen but with all of these windows I decided to do a flax color for a little added coziness.

Let's move to the little boys room.  He is not quite 4.

I wanted to use something that he could grow with since this was a pretty big treatment.

I selected this cotton gray pinstripe with the blue trim and used a sturdy traverse rod [they were blackout lined] so they would be easier to open and close.  We also painted the rod to blend in.

But there was a slight problem....

After they were hung I notice this.....we were all perplexed.  Why?  Well after much discussion and using a level we found out that there was a slight slope in the floors.

It's fairly common.  Moving the rod up would make the rest of the curtains "highwater" right?

We also moved the pins up as high as we could but it just wasn't perfect.

So I called Sudi.  Help!

This is true customer service.  She took the hem out and fixed it so fast!

OK...on to the next room.....master bedroom.

Cream fabric with this pretty Samuel and Sons trim.

Check out the different heights of the windows in this room.  Yeah.....it's never easy:)

These are a little wrinkled because they hadn't been steamed yet.

It was also move in day so things were a little crazy!

The chandelier was hung in the bathroom.....!

Hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas.....Hard to believe it's over already :)

I'm headed to Orange Theory.....trying to stay on track through the holidays!

MORE PROJECT UPDATES

Well it finally happened to me.  I was checking my American Express card and I noticed some charges on there that didn't look right.

It's my business card so there are usually charges from fabric vendors or rug vendors etc.....not Saks Fifth Avenue.  And...this girl did some shopping! Fendi, Ugg, MCM.......purses and shoes.

When I first saw it I thought for a minute "did I do this?  Did I shop in my sleep?"  You know instead of sleep walking maybe I sleep shopped....ha ha.

Of course now I have to call my vendors and let them know my cc number has been changed.  It's always something right!

Today I have my last install....just curtains and I am excited to see them go up!  Should have some pictures for you next week but I do have a few more updates of this project.

The gray silk wallpaper went up in the foyer....

After
So pretty!

I put together 2 floor plans for the family room which is huge!

The first one is not my favorite but could definitely work.  The challenge of a large space is that it's hard to find large coffee tables.  In the first plan we took [2] 30 x 60 upholstered ottomans and put them together for a 60" square.

I prefer this plan with the 2 sofas facing each other.  We can still use the 2 ottomans pushed together.  They have a 4 year old with one on the way so no sharp corners!

I also took the rug size to a 12 x 20.

The curtains will give the room some warmth.

I ordered the furniture from Charles Stewart going with gray on the chairs and navy on the 2 sofas.

ALL performance fabrics!

Below are some fabrics for pillows.....

The blue grays go nicely with the island color...

Walk through this area and you are in the butlers pantry....

Which is also painted SW Roycroft  Pewter

I have been trying to keep up with my workout schedule during the holidays.  I am finally back on the treadmill [just in the last 3 weeks!] after suffering from Plantar Fasciitis since May!  Not running yet cause I'm scared it might come back :)

Even though..... when I was out to lunch the other day at this yummy restaurant....

And I had this healthy meal.

Things went down hill when the family got together at my sister's restaurant last night.

The best desert ever!  Some kind of pound cake with a caramel sauce over it.  I die.

This is an example of my husband sitting next to my 13 year old nephew and their conversation!

Now you see what I'm up against here?

While I am talking pretty paint colors....... he is strictly a numbers guy.  Yin and yang to a whole new level.

Merry Christmas you guys!  So glad we all met here in blogland it's definitely been a highlight in my life:)

BEFORE AND AFTER

So I went to a movie for the first time in a year!  I know....crazy huh?  I jumped up on Sunday afternoon and made the 4:00 show of La La Land.

OMG.......Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are magical together.  The dancing...the music..the dialog.  I was definitely entertained and even got chills a few times.  It was the perfect formula for a romantic comedy.

So glad I saw that one for my re-entry into movie land.

Thinking I will keep it short and sweet today since everyone is so darn busy this time of year.

I  wanted to show you the picture of my bedroom in Atlanta Magazine Home.

If you remember if was before the ORC.

Since there was no black and white in it.....Ginny Branch and I scoured another bedroom and came up with this black and white throw and pillow from West Elm!  Just proves you can add black and white to any color:)

And you can see that the headboard is the same....lamps are the same, table-skirt and nightstand also.

It's so weird for me to look at my ORC pictures now and remember the all white walls!

You know what?  I actually love both versions and I am probably gonna want those white walls in the summer:)  But.....I could add all white bedding for a fresh look right?

Next up is this small kitchen of a clients daughter who called me to come look at the existing space.

Hmmmmmm......

It was crazy...the DW was right next to the oven.

WTH?

We really tried to work with it but in the end we decided to rip it out and go for an Ikea kitchen.

That sounded good.....in theory.

Only one problema......if you have never done one before it can be quite overwhelming.

So I called in the expert.  My son in law from Boulder who has done about 20 of them.

I sent him the measurements and he drew it out for me and gave me all of the item numbers!

Easy peasy.

Making progress.  We decided to keep the fridge but made the space large enough for a full size one eventually!

The island went in....

You might have noticed we changed out the floors also!

Soon countertops, lights and pretty things!

WHAT!  5 days until Christmas.
