BEFORE AND AFTER

I am sure all of you are planning July 4th festivities and diying up a storm all things red, white, and blue.

I plan on sticking 2 small flags in my planters out front and calling it a day.

I have a hard enough time decorating for Christmas and that holiday season is about 3 weeks....much less getting it together for a one day event.  I applaud all of you.

Yesterday I had a curtain install.  After doing this for a "couple of years"...... normally it will be uneventful.

Oh no....not this time.  Yes....I had all the correct hardware but there was one small "problema".  They were about 12" too long.

What?  How the hell did this happen.  I was convinced that it was the fabricators fault.  Of course right?  Then I got back and we checked the measurements.  "Dayum".

I never said math was my strong point.  How did 110" get to be 123".  Must have been drunk that day.....JK.

Let's not dwell on the negative.

If you follow me on instagram then you might have seen this plan.

This sweet client called me up when her kitchen was half painted because of doubts.

A nice beige/khaki was being applied to the walls in a kitchen with creamy/beige cabinets.  Yawn.

Somehow I convinced her to paint the walls SW 7059 Unusual Gray.

Kind of silvery gray blue.......which keeps it from looking like a nursery.  That can happen with blue sometimes right?

The plan at the top had not even been born yet.... but she had this painting that she really wanted to use.

You can see..... after the walls have been painted.

So...where do we go from here?

How about some pattern, a new table, rug and light fixture?

After painting [which is hard to see in this image],  the blue helps to highlight all the brown wood trim much better than beige/khaki would.

How the dang hell do you take a picture into a window....if you have any tips.....I'm listening.

This fabric is Kravet/Hibiscus.  I love how it pulls in the brown trim and the blue/gray walls.  It has been a long time since I did something other than cream curtains but for a kitchen where there is not much softness I think adding a pattern is key.

Interesting wood top on the table.

We also tweaked the mudroom area a little.

More bad lighting....but we added the grasscloth wallpaper [see in the top picture] and painted the doors SW Urbane Bronze.

Had roman shades made out of this fabric

And added this awesome Dash and Albert rug.

Her husband painted the red chest....

And that's it for now......

Hope you all have a great 4th!  It is going to be a HOT one here in the ATL.  But....no complaining cause I hear it is "Guam hot" out west.

There you go, using my favorite color combo again. I also have creamy white (more like butter yellow) painted cabs and am working out a redo for the walls and beadboard backsplash. I'm liking that grey!

Love your math! Like mine! Keeping inch, feet and yard numbers straight and then, when needed, throwing in square numbers, is just TOO much!

I line the front of our yard with twenty 14" flags just pushed into the grass (quick) & hang 9, 3ft. red, white & blue buntings (via cheap zipties) from our back fence. It is super easy & is a lot of "bang for the buck." We are on a pond & the reflection of the bunting in the water is awesome! Loving the kitchen, especially the curtains, they make the space!

I just hung 2 paper lanterns outside for the 4th since we're going out of town so your not alone on this. I can see that rooms coming along beautifully, can't wait to see it all done!

So pretty Sherry! What a beautiful gray/blue. I love having more colors to add to my paint arsenal. Math terrifies me. I hate measuring anything. I'm usually closer to being right when I just eyeball something and call out a measurement than if I get the tape measure out and actually try to measure it.

Sherry,
I am not much of a brown gal,BUT you made brown look GOOD!! Love all the fabric combos. I have a sample of the fabric you are using for the roman shade in a different colorway and it is a beautiful fabric with a lovely hand to it, so perfect for a roman shade!!
Love the Ballard chandelier too, just suggested that for a friends kitchen dining area, it is a real winner.
You never cease to amaze me with your talents.

PS I am coordinating some fun fabrics for summer pillows for my family room. Love coordinating fabrics!!

That mudroom looks amazing - I love how a dark color on the interiors doors makes them feel weighty and high end. Really thinking about doing my own!!! PS: love the urbane bronze (used it recently on a exterior door, but it's ultra good here on the interior ones)! M.

You had me at "cows"...I know most wouldn't want bovines around unless on their plates, but I have a painting as well of a gorgeous calf . It hangs over a modern fireplace in a bit of a glam kitchen. Whatever works I say! Love your fabrics and colour selections!!! Traditional and current.

Love how that drapery fabric pulls it all together. I once measured incorrectly and the drapes were about 12" too short!! Ugh...stressful!! Fortunately my seamstress took out the hems and was able to fix them. From now on, she does all of the measuring!! Hope you had a nice 4th.

Oh cool! Love the shade on the walls with the brown, and and the bronze front door. The Dash and Albert rug is great too!

Just saw the Kravet fabric in Ballard Designs and love it!! I am thinking of doing some sort of valance in my kitchen in this fabric. Do you have any more pictures of the valance? Wondering if I could railroad the fabric to get more bang for my buck.
