SOME DETAILS ON MY GUEST ROOM

Before we get to the details....I have a confession to make.

This might make your jaw drop to the floor.....but here goes.

Remember the pictures of that gorgeous water from my sailing trip to the BVI?  Well I never went in it.  Yeah....I know.

What the.....?

Truth is I am not a water person.  Why?  Cause there are big fish in there.  AND....that scares me.
Now many people have tried to convince me otherwise.

Oh yeah.

They sit there and say "there are no fish in this water".  Then they come back from snorkeling and talk about that huge barracuda they just saw.

Seriously......this is not my first time at the rodeo.  And the fact that if there happens to be a shark in those waters my ass is going to be on the boat.

OK that is enough true confession for today.

I said I would give you more thoughts on my ORC room.

So here you go.

If you remember I planned on using this greek trim on the curtains.  Even ordered it but glad I waited because it just seemed too busy in the room.

I love how soft the window treatments look and with no trim it just creates texture.  Like I said these are just ready made [96"] panels though I used 2 on each side for fullness.  The reason I pulled them back is because of how close the headboard is to the window.  In my opinion it would have been too busy if I had left them hanging.

I also decided not to use rings to help with creating a cleaner look. AND.....I did not even have them sewn together.....just slipped them through these loops.  I love these curtains and they carry them at Lewis and Sheron if you are inclined to get yourself a pair.
I couldn't find them on the website but you could just give them a call.

These pillows were made by Sudi and I just trimmed them out in some dark gray fabric to create a frame.
The burlap headboard had these letters and numbers already on it.  They were coffee bags and to make it work I had to do it upside down.....worked for me :)

I got the bedskirt at a thrift store for 2 dollars.  So lucky....it was made out of really nice fabric and had a longer drop which is what I needed.  Whoop.
I have had this skin for years and it has of course been used in every room at one time or another.
Shocking huh?

This cloche used to be in my den.  I bought these vintage lightbulbs at The Queen and even though it is glass with glass....again....I like that it does not scream.  You have to decide what are the focal points in a room and then stop.  We have heard this before.....not everything can be the star.

In keeping with the black, cream and white theme....I used books, a couple of old cameras and the beads on a silver tray.  The silver of the camera kind of coordinates with the patina of the old silver tray.

I also mixed my metals in this room with the vintage brass lamp and the gold in the chandelier.
If you remember I had 4 choices of lighting [you can find pictures of all the selections on this post].  I liked the one that was originally hanging  but in my opinion it was too rustic for the room.  With the burlap headboard.....I wanted to do the opposite and that meant crystals.  I thought the Circa lighting brass one from the show house[my second favorite]  was just too plain.  The black iron one from my foyer was too predictable.

I think that is enough about how my brain works for today :)
I have also been searching for like items so you can put this room together for yourself...... if you want.

Hoping it will get warmer here in Atlanta....we are not used to temps in the 30's so late in March.
No snide remarks from you people who live in frozen tundra.

How did Wednesday creep on us so fast?

Loved your room! Oh, and I'm sick of this weather. I need 70's and 80's!

Your rooms always make me want to throw everything in my house away and start over. I love those space, sherry. Ever since I painted that one door in my family room black, I've been wanting more black in my house! This room just made that "want" worse:-)

sher - im so glad you did what you did, its PERFECT this way (ie: no polishing the lamp and changing the shade, no adding the greek trim). it turned out so perfect. the only thing i now need to know is where you got the fabulous white bone beads? i love those african frosted glass beds and have those in my house, but sometimes some white beads would be useful!

just pinned the old bulbs inside the cloche. great look. do you ever find ready-made panels that are 109 inches? I can rarely find them and don't want to spend a fortune have some made...donna

I had the same thing in my room too - had trim to add to the curtains, but when i got them up, with everything else in the room i thought it would be just too busy. And thanks for the tip on doubling up the curtains. Genius, per usual.

I love how full the drapes look. I did that by accident in my apartment but am now thinking I want all the drapes to look that full.

Ok, so now with all your designer talk, I'm going to have to go fix my master bedroom draperies. My headboard comes very close to the window trim and I have drapes on both sides. Probably could just pull them both over to the outside edge, huh? I didn't even know there were theories for this kind of thing. :)

lol about water and the barracudas... we went to St John a few years ago and as we were snorkeling I was having visions of completely losing it right there in the water. No barracudas, but huge sea turtles and sting rays did it for me. I couldn't get out of the water fast enough. Pretty sure I damaged a whole shoreline of coral.

Loved the room when I saw it last week, and love it more seeing all the details. I think your reasoning on your choices are right on the mark! Love you went with ready mades..gives us all hope that we don't need to have everything "custom" made to be gorgeous.
I wouldn't go in the water either!!!!!!!!! :)

Feeling pretty good about myself Sherry....I thought the original ceiling fixture was too rustic with the burlap headboard, love the crystal with the headboard. And I thought trim on curtain panels would be too much. I'm so proud of myself that these were your thoughts as well! I can only pray I am soaking up some knowledge after reading for 2 years...haha :) #slowlearner #maynevertrulygetit :)

I don't go in the ocean, either. Saw Jaw's as a teen, and I was wrecked for life. Your details are always spot on.

i respect your decision to stay on dry land. it gets my vote too. sure i'm beachy. just not watery. when we go to hawaii, i snorkel for 10 minutes to be able to say i snorkled and saw some fish. then i'm done. i can't stand looking underwater, not even while watching a movie. i have problems. and it's okay cuz i love watching my frolicking family safely from the shore!

love those curtains and how your room came together. bet it will be snapped up for a magazine soon.

smiles to you, sherbear.

I will never cease to be entertained by your posts, and take away something creative at the same time. Thanks for that. I really love this room, the cream and white and black totally speak to me. (telling me I should do that somewhere in my house like I've always wanted.) You are so talented, girl.

Sherri your room looks so comfy and I would be happy to try it out and let you know for sure...;) You really think of everything don't you? I'm with you on the water front I don't swim with fish as I don't want to become fish food. As for the frozen tundra comment...it's twenty here and snowing need I say more?

You have a great sense of humor! Thanks for the chuckles you give right before I go to sleep!

Question: How would one go about making those Lewis & Sheron panels with the neat loops on the top out of say an Ikea panel? You know they are so incredibly long anyway that there'd be plenty of fabric. I really like the way they look so full, soft and tailored. If you decide to do a little quick and dirty tutorial, I'd love it. Otherwise I'm going to hack up some panels and try to figure it out.

Thanks!
