MY WEEK

Oh it was busy alright.  When you are trying to get caught up before going on a vacation it almost seems not worth it....

Nah.....never mind.  That's crazy talk right?

I haven't really posted much about this project except for showing you the vintage map of Atlanta [1888] I recently bought at Scott's.

Here are some of the fabrics I am working with.

I headed out to find a frame for the map thinking I would just buy a ready made black one and have a mat cut.  Period.  Easy.  Cheap.

Black frame...khaki linen mat.

But then.....

Oh mommie.

Dying.  I mean what a difference right?
And this one.....

I mean....how can I go back to the ready made black one???
But the budget....
Also it's going over the mantel so it can't be wimpy.

Another gorgeous one.
Can you tell I am out of control now?

I got a price and went to another frame store.  I was on a roll.

The quote from here was TWICE as much.

So now what to do.  Real life.  Budgets.  I just came home cause I was overwhelmed.  This is me.....agonizing.

More research.

I think I have mentioned before that one of my sisters owns a restaurant called Nancy G's.  Her hostess Kelly was in a play last night.....Grease and she played Frenchie.

It was at The Habima Theatre which is Georgia's only theatrical company directed and produced by professionals that feature actors with developmental disabilities.

Here is Kelly after her performance.

My sister and Kelly.

Y'all it was so darn cute!  If you live near Sandy Springs stop in to Nancy G's cafe and say Hi to Kelly:)

Ok...off to Scott's to torture myself some more.

Make it a great day....after all it is FRIDAY!

the first frame (after the ready-made one) is IT GIRL. hands down. but I feel your pain. I am trying to frame the old blue prints we found for jay's new office and it is gonna be so expensive.

Yeah Kelly!! How fun for everyone. I have my own opinion about budgets, so I'll just watch and wait.

That first one seems worthy of a budget buster. How could they regret that choice - gorgeous!

Sometimes the budget has to be blown. For the right reasons. And this is the right reason!! Congrats to Kelly!! xo

Well, that first frame is FABULOUS. Swoon-worthy.

I have a child with special needs, and he would adore being in a play! But I live in SC and don't think we could swing down to the ATL for rehearsals. :) So sweet that there is a company that offers that for special needs families.

Why am I mot surprised awesomeness runs in your family?

YAY for Kelly fulfilling her dreams!

And don't get me started on client budgets. Too much HGTV has convinced them that most everything free.

Holy cow Sherry those frames are gorgeous. Impossible to go back to the ready made black. Damn budgets. They really hinder sometimes.

We are a theater family and I cannot ever sing the praises of theater enough. What it does for kids...self esteem, confidence, team player, etc cannot be measured. LOVE that there is this experience for Kelly and all the Kellys! So so awesome. Wish I could go!

PS As I go back and read the other comments, I am now dying to know Linda's feelings on budgets!

(Maybe I need some validation for the fact that I often blow mine all to hell when I really want something) #justsayin

Great fabrics! I hope we'll get a look-see at this finished room. Great frames too! They all look vintage.

Congrats to Kelly! She must have done a great job; she's got the flowers to prove it.

WOW that first frame has my heart beating faster.....do it do it do it! Its totally gorgeous and love the map!!

There are times budgets need to take a back seat to something that cannot be ignored:)
Kelly looks so happy and what a wonderful organization to feature those with disabilities..bravo to her!

Well YOU KNOW the answer to the frame question. If it's a focal point over the mantel you have to go with the Big Momma frame or one of those gorgeous custom combinations, you just have to. What an enormous difference--no contest! Good luck with the budget buster conversation.. :)
Love that Kelly was a star! She so deserves the spotlight! Have a great vacay Sherry!

It's going to be gorgeous!I love the fabrics! Do you know the name of the black, red and taupe ikat one?

Damn budgets always ruin the fun. That last option, with the double mat, dying. And I want to wrap myself up in that plaid fabric btw.

Oh- You just can't go to plain old black frame now~ You will have to cheap up something else (of course it still must LOOK rich). xo Diana

My unsolicited opinion is that over the mantel is the place to SPLURGE!!

Congrats to Kelly! And to you. Hello. Those fabrics are so to die for and the frames are nuts. I hope you can work some magic and use one!!

The only problem with the ready made is that it is not chunky enough for the over all scale of the map + matting. (cause you could wipe it with a bit of gold wax to make it look more valuable)

The second custom (with the green/gray pattern) is my first choice as it "talks to" your fabrics so nicely. Budget? Find it somewhere... 3 less pillows? Pillows can be added back in easily down the line. The featured art over the mantel is too important and difficult to find the correct piece.

The final and twice as expensive has waaay too much going on with all those mat details (and the frame is too busy).

Used to work in an art gallery/framing studio - quality costs what it costs! :-)

Cheers!

i do the exact thing...start off trying to be conservative and saving money, but then sometimes...it's worth the money if it's going to be the focal point of the room. specially if it becomes the STATEMENT piece...I'm curious to see which one you/the client choose(s).

makes sense to not make a decision when too torn. i bet the answer lies somewhere in between the high and low end options.

look at beautiful frenchie! what a fabulous opportunity for all.

There is not turning back after you see profession matting and framing. I hate when that happens! It looks like it will be well worth the investment. I have found that sometimes the framing is more expensive than the art piece! Congrats to Kelly for a job well done! that is so wonderful,
Good luck on the framing,

I love all the frames....prices on framing is crazy...even wholesale!

Oh man... those frames would be hard to resist. I really like the first one you liked , and the last one too... So fun to watch you work. It's also cool to see how you get overwhelmed with all the decisions too, and end off wandering home. Makes me feel better!
