DYI BOOKS...and box turtles

I just finished my morning walk with the dogs which includes the trail I have spoken about  in our neighborhood.  I  recently started taking my phone with me not to talk...but it has an app that records my pace, route and time.  I can get a little OCD with things like this and it makes me competitive so I work harder!

Anyway......the other day I saw 2 box turtles.

Having sex.

Yeah...I know.  It was a first for me.

Picture...no worries....I doubt this will make you hide your eyes.

At first I just thought the little bugger had tipped over....I can be slow like that.  After a few minutes of my brain processing why the heck they were in this position I gasped.  Oh my gosh...they are mating.  I am sure I ruined the moment for them by snapping this picture.

Another reason to have my phone with me.  Nature.

Remember when I painted the Readers Digest books?  I bought a few more the other day just to see what else I could do with them.

I painted them out like before with chalk paint and then went to Michaels to get this.
Sealing wax.

And I did this.

Waxing is not that easy.  The directions said not to burn it.  Well...how the heck do you keep from burning wax when you have to light the wick???  My first few attempts were kind of  a black and white marble look.

Not exactly what I was going for.

I finally "kinda" got it but I did not like the contrast of the blue paint so I dry brushed it with the cream.
Need more books to practice with for sure.

If you are inclined to venture out to Marietta tomorrow
DK Gallery is hosting this.....

Which is why I will be spending a good part of today  reinventing myself.  Hair done....eyebrows waxed.....pedicure......

Of course it's supposed to rain like the dickens tomorrow so it won't matter what I do to my hair....it will still look like this.

Alrighty then.....gotta go figure out what to wear.

omg i just saw a clip of turtles gettin bizzy on andy cohen's bravo show the other night. it was noisy and frightening. your image on the other hand looks like the partners took a gentler approach. who knew? only you would see this scene and assess it as blogworthy, btw. we like that.

some goodies will be shipped to you today, and my apologies for not slipping a card in there. that was dumb. so my gift is the one with no card.

smiles to you and good luck on your fancy design thing...you should consider doing what i have done. messy hair is like a signature for me.

I always enjoy how your topics flow so effortlessly from one to the next :)

Sad I'm not coming tomorrow but it makes me feel better about my decision if it's going to be a downpour.

Can't wait to see the results of your day's efforts....You'll be the Glam Gal!
I do think you should send your portfolio of nature pictures to National Geographic!

That is so funny about those turtles. I'm sure I would wonder what was going on too! Ha! It's not like you see that going on in nature everyday you know. I've never used those wax seals before but have always wanted to try it. It looks like it would be fun.

Funny, mostly I think books should just be books for reading (I may be the lone design blogger with completely UNSTYLED bookshelves), but I have to say, I love these!

Did you find the turtles smoking on your trip home? HA!
I thought you got Keratin treatments for your hair. Not doing that anymore?

oh sherree , the best way to use those wax stamps is to get these colored glue sticks. you squeeze the glue stick out into a blob and then stick the stamp in it looks just like the wax but is so much easier!

Thanks for educating me on the sexing of box turtles--who knew? Love the sealing wax. (I have actually used in on love letters back in the day.) Ain't it the way that it will rain when you get your make over. It will still be worth the makeover and being pampered!

I used to seal envelopes with that...long ago, when people sent things through this archaic system know as "the mail". Now I want to revisit it, again. Thanks for the memories...as Bob Hope would say.

I couldn't find an animal that would do my hair justice. So there's that.
Nice work on being a buzz kill. You might be in the running for the new winner vs. my four year old.
Anywho. I can't do sealing wax. bad burn, can't talk about it.
Cheers

You are so stinking funny!!! Like you, I take my dog on a morning walk. Love that you stumbled upon turtles getting it on...what a way to start your morning!! Your books look amazing!! And I love the story ab burning wax, because I think I'd be thinking the same thing. And unfortunately, I live in Gamecock country, and your rooster, makes me think of the Gamecocks.

Good luck on your talk...I know you'll kick a**!

Lawd have mercy lady, why you gone and messed up the turtle moment, and then spread the porn across the Internet! Scandalous. Shameful. But I expect nothing less from you. Have a blast at your event. Please do something fun in Miami one of these days so we can meet.

I can't seem to find a "search" function/ button for your blog. Do you have one? If not, would be very helpful.
