PROJECT DESIGN GALLERY WALLS

Let's be clear....I procrastinated so long I didn't complete this task until the 11th hour.  And by that I mean I started putting it together yesterday around 2:00.

Which also meant that I had to take the pictures....edit them and now here I am trying to get this out before the 9:00 deadline.

It's looking like the "waiting until the last minute" thing does not get better with age:)

For the sake of time I will eliminate the chit chat and get right on it.

Part one here
Part two here

This is where we started....2 empty shelves and bare wall space.

I started playing with the design hoping to arrive at a plan before I get to the point where I don't care and just slap something up while shouting loudly "how much I don't care" .....you been there?

These 3 went up seamlessly:)

I am on a roll now....I'll have this done in no time.

I could have left it like this but I felt it was a little too predictable.

Can I tell you how anxious this situation actually makes me.

Anyway I call husband in for a little assistance.....  of course first giving him a lesson on how to actually take a picture with the iPhone.

This...
Or this...

Crap no.  I'm getting way off track.  Too busy.

Deal.

For now right....
I love this little Arteriors mirror I scored at HomeGoods.

I was actually pleased with the easy "no mat" situation.

From the other direction....

Annnnnnnnd that's a wrap.

She's not amused.

Frames from Michaels
Art from Scott's
Shelves from Container Store

Thanks to Mary Ann and Cindy for inviting me!

Now you get to go see what everyone else came up with!

See ya Wednesday for the One Room Challenge update week 4!

PROJECT DESIGN GALLERY WALLS

You know what I hate?  Mondays.  Yup....there I said it.  And seeing a dead roach on the kitchen floor when I wake up.

Nasty little suckers.

There doesn't seem to be anything I can do about Mondays or dead roaches if history tells me anything:)

Let's just get down to some design.

It's time to discuss what is going on my gallery wall.   [first post]

Who the heck knows.

JK.....I kinda have an idea.

Of course it will be the 11th hour before I actually decide the final version.

Here is the only tip I can offer:

Newsflash.... like you haven't seen this before.

The last time I did a large gallery wall I started with brown craft paper.  And if you think that stuff is easy to work with....think again.  They were so darn curly I had to iron them.

Not exactly the extra step I needed......but if you are looking for perfection then plan on it.

Of course you can always go the random "throw them up" for that eclectic feel.  I am a fan of both looks.

I had 8 of these vintage gray and white botanicals that I purchased at Scott's [years ago].  I went to Michaels to get a price on having the mats done when the nice guy behind the counter gave me a suggestion.

Get some paper and just lay the prints on top so the slightly browned edges will show.

Crickets.....uh hell yeah.  Probably not good for Michaels bottom line but I was on board!

I mean a couple of dollars for paper or $20 for mats.

I selected these frames.

Which because I live right....they miraculously had the 8 I needed.

And there you have it.

Hopefully next week this area will be gushing with art.

I have to figure out a good plan to extend them beyond the shelves......

Because you guys are so unbelievable important I will think of nothing else until this gallery wall is epic.

You can see it next Monday!

Here are the other peeps who are stressing over their walls.

See ya Wednesday for the third week of the ORC!

MY WEEK

Oh it was busy alright.  When you are trying to get caught up before going on a vacation it almost seems not worth it....

Nah.....never mind.  That's crazy talk right?

I haven't really posted much about this project except for showing you the vintage map of Atlanta [1888] I recently bought at Scott's.

Here are some of the fabrics I am working with.

I headed out to find a frame for the map thinking I would just buy a ready made black one and have a mat cut.  Period.  Easy.  Cheap.

Black frame...khaki linen mat.

But then.....

Oh mommie.

Dying.  I mean what a difference right?
And this one.....

I mean....how can I go back to the ready made black one???
But the budget....
Also it's going over the mantel so it can't be wimpy.

Another gorgeous one.
Can you tell I am out of control now?

I got a price and went to another frame store.  I was on a roll.

The quote from here was TWICE as much.

So now what to do.  Real life.  Budgets.  I just came home cause I was overwhelmed.  This is me.....agonizing.

More research.

I think I have mentioned before that one of my sisters owns a restaurant called Nancy G's.  Her hostess Kelly was in a play last night.....Grease and she played Frenchie.

It was at The Habima Theatre which is Georgia's only theatrical company directed and produced by professionals that feature actors with developmental disabilities.

Here is Kelly after her performance.

My sister and Kelly.

Y'all it was so darn cute!  If you live near Sandy Springs stop in to Nancy G's cafe and say Hi to Kelly:)

Ok...off to Scott's to torture myself some more.

Make it a great day....after all it is FRIDAY!

FRAMING ART

I am getting down to the wire for my last install of 2012.

One of the final parts of putting a room together is to drill down on what I need for the walls.   There are many factors when choosing but budget [probably #1] and space are the most important.

I am a big believer of not putting something on every wall...let the room breath and the old saying "the eye needs a place to rest".

Plus I do like to choose art that is fairly neutral so it can be moved around.  Unless  it is the WOW factor then all bets are off :)

The bedroom that is coming up is blues and soft browns [yes again].  We had the walls painted from a dark brown to a neutral off white.  One of the reasons is that most of the furniture is dark wood.

Here is a picture of some of the pillows that will be used in the room.
I will be acting like a little elf sprinkling these beauties around!!

I always have a stash of vintage egg prints....because they happen to go so well with these colors.  I actually have them in my own bedroom.

After I purchased the frames, I strolled over to my favorite framing joint.

Locally owned and a fast turnaround time!

Which usually helps me as I can tend to be a "last minute kind of gal".......

It happens to be right next to my sisters restaurant so I can pop in to see her at the same time.....and beg for food :).

Here is where we started with the matting.  The reason I take a picture is it really does help in the decision process....swear.

Questions?  Do I want to leave some of the cream color?  No.  BUT since the background of the pictures each have just a subtle difference of color I think I need to double mat.

Crap...more money but if you are going to go through the effort.....then get it right.

Number #2

Even though there is brown in some of the pillows I felt it was just too harsh.  So it was no.

I chose the last selection....gray.  Although there is not gray in the room it is what looked better with the art and the frame which had a "blueish gray" washed affect.

See....

I picked them up and here is a sneak view of the finished product.

You can't tell here but I had them framed out bottom heavy...which means that there is more mat under the picture.

Hopefully I will have some great pictures to show late next week and you can see where I am hanging these bad boys.

Blow out the weekend people.  In fact start today.  Right?

Tomorrow I am going to lunch with many of the peeps that I worked with when I did the shelter.  I can not wait to see Lisa's  [see her new blog here] house.  She has fabulous taste.  I am sure everyone will be taking pictures!
