CURATING ART

If you are on Instagram then you know I had a busy weekend.....DK Gallery in Marietta, Georgia had an art opening where 20 or so designers picked a piece of art and then curated a small vignette to co-ordinate with our selection.

Of course I said yes 2 months ago and then I had to be prodded to actually go pick out my selection and after everyone promptly put their vignettes together..... I was knocking on the door at 4:00 with my table and flowers.....sliding in just under the opening at 5:00 pm.

Crikey.....

I picked a piece that was titled "Last Day Of Summer"....by Laura Surace

So I went down into my "collection room" commonly known as the basement and dug out this old table.

Grabbed a tray and threw some wallpaper and fabric together!  Of course these are my colors and now you can see the method behind my choice of art:)

Flew into Trader Joes for some greenery and there you go.  Old Target vase also from the "collection room" :)

Then of course I had to dress to match everything and I wore this Target number....which I can't find online anymore.  I actually got it on the sale rack for 22.00.  Score.

They were actually pretty comfortable but after 5 hours NO SHOE IS COMFY.....am I right?

It was a fun night to catch up with friends Lori May and Lisa Mowry below

Lori's selection

I also wore it last Thursday night with flats..... please excuse the sour look on my face...haha
And if you look closely you can see that I have to keep my LR sofa covered up so Cami doesn't lay there 24/7.

Buggerhead

While I was there networking I get this text from my husband.

He wanted to show me the empty dog food container.

Crickets....

Meaning I should stop for dog food on my way home [25 minutes away]  after working all day.  Uh Huh....at 8:45 pm I had to go to Pet Smart.....

Yet.....he is retired and is less than a mile from PS.

Can you see where I'm going with this?

Irritated.

But who could resist this face....

I found this beautiful vase at HomeGoods....and threw in 9.00 worth of white gladiolus for impact!

Alrighty then....it's wedding week and of course I have a cold.

Not happy about it.

KITCHEN RENOVATION

I have 2 bathrooms and 1.5 kitchens in the works.  The .5 is just new countertops and lights but that still counts right?

The other kitchen is the subject today and it is one I did in 2006!  Actually it was a whole house renovation at the time.  Lisa Mowry remember this one?

I think it's kind of amazing that it is still relevant today.....although they are ready for a new look!

I had to take these from the magazine it was published in!

White with subway tile and wood accents....along with shaker cabinet doors which are so popular now!  Damn how did I know all that....ha ha.

The real problem was the columns which were purely for looks.....not structural.....not really sure why we did that!  It was time for them to go.

Here are some of the things we are addressing.....

We are cutting the island down to counter height and bring it out 12" so it can be a functional place to dine.

Time for new countertops and painting out the island white.

This new Silestone is hot off the market!  It is called Calacatta Gold and comes in a pretty "suede finish".

New white backsplash.

These cabinets were originally painted SW Creamy so they had a yellow feeling to them.  We are going with BM White Dove [duh my fav]

Here are some progress pictures.....

Since we only needed 2 cabinets it was just as cost effective to build new ones rather than building them up.

We had an electrician come to widen the location of the pendants since the columns were gone....and of course we are changing out the lights!

To these from Rejuvenation.

Shelves are in and cabinets higher.....new doors being made.

As with any renovation project there are always issues.....the guy who came to template the countertops has some doubts about getting them out in this area.....stay tuned!

Changing out the sink [although not sure the new one will fit so stay tuned....crikey] and faucet.....

To my fav Grohe faucet

Here is the original wet bar area.....

Which of course is also getting a facelift!

Took down the cabinets.....adding shelves and changing the backsplash to this....

Pretty huh!

Taking out the sink and cabinet below to add a Scotsman ice maker that makes pellet ice!

Apparently that type of ice is all the rage....who knew:)

I am kind of excited to see this one finished....and lucky for me my clients are so darn chill.....which is kind of important with this kind of renovation.

Let's see if we are still friends when it's all said and done....yikes.

And there you have it....gotta get everything under control before Thanksgiving.

Starting to sweat.

MY HOUSE OVER THE YEARS.....

Hey y'all.....hope you had a great weekend!

After my extremely busy week I finally hit the wall on Sat night and went to sleep at 8:30.....awaking Sunday morning at 8:45!  Whew....that felt awesome.

I am trying to tie up loose ends so I can leave for Highpoint on Thursday.  I'm so excited to stay in my 1.5 star Hotel with my girl Jennifer.  Uh huh....that is what happens when you wait to late to make your reservations.

I will be paying 250.00@night for all of that luxury also.  I feel kind of shallow complaining though so I will just shut up now.

The other day I was going through some pictures of my house and I thought I would share a transition of the small keeping area with you!

In the beginning [1993] This space was used as a kitchen dining area.

There is a table and chairs under the light fixture. What stands out to me are those horrible orange red oak floors. Please remember this was 24 years ago.

I am going to try and put these in order.....but I know there was much more "uglyness" in between!

The next ones that I can find are the shots from Better Homes and Gardens taken in 2011 by Sara Dorio [styled by Annette Joseph] and written by my friend Lisa Mowry.

I moved out the dining table and had the smaller drop leaf made. And of course the quote above will be in a design textbook soon...hahahaha

Added the cafe curtains for softness.

I hired Christina Wedge to take a few images of my house.....Same angle as the BH&G shoot but changed up a few things....lamp, art and of course pillows.

Duh.

Not sure where this image fits in but it was before the "new chair"!

You can see I am leaning towards more neutrals....

And.....here is the Lee Industries chair I got on super sale from Stanton Home Furnishings.

Large french basket came back in
Color returns for a hot minute I think.....

Back to neutrals....are you dizzy yet?

More changes:)  I had a slipcover made.....

I know this was at Christmas time and believe it or not.... it's my most pinned image and the post that has had the most traffic ever!  Weird.

The neutrals are here to stay.

Today.....cafe curtains are gone.....different light fixture, different pillows but the furniture has remained constant!
Photography by Anthony-Masterson

It feels like there were a lot of changes but the table, 2 chairs and basket have been there forever!

I am sure you guys have ton's of the same issue around your home right?
