INSPIRATION SHOWHOUSE

This time last year I had just finished participating in the St Phillips Cathedral Showhouse with Lori May.

It was my first time executing something like this and we sure found out how much work it takes.

This year they did not do a show house but had designers decorate small spaces in the church [about 12 x 12 ].

I think they lost my number......:)

No worries.

Back to the reason for all of this....

Just recently Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles did their spread on last years rooms.

Here are a few of the images from the article.

This is from my friend Ally [From The Right Bank].  Bless her heart....she had to spend most of her time outside but she was a trooper!  Looks like the middle of spring not January right?

This is from Lance and David [Parker Kennedy]  They rocked this "palm beach" style and I fell hard for this space.

This kick ass room is from Jennifer and Richard [Reiner White Studio].  So much inspiration.

Upstairs Bryan Kirkland [BAK Designs] blasted us with some great modern color!  It was stunning.

My girl Dayka [Dayka Robinson Designs] took us outside the box with this entry!

And then we come to Bill and William [Bill Ingram Architects] who put me in a trance with their space.  They were in the basement with us and we had so much fun that at times it was hard to pull it together when viewers were coming down the stairs.

And that's it.

WHAT you say...where are your pictures???

Now I don't want to sound like "bitter party for one"......but Lori and I did not make the cut.

Whaaaaaaaa.

Guess they didn't get my check.

So today I am posting the images that Christina Wedge took for us a year ago.

She did a great job cause this room had everything going against it like only one small window.

We added the wood on the low ceiling and stained it Classic Gray.

A good thing is the great texture with that stone wall...... it helped give our space some interest.

We tried to disguise that door by painting it the same color of the walls and even added a picture on it.  We are nothing if not clever.

As you have seen.... those pillows are now residing at my house and I have to say I am not tired of them.  Whoa...news flash.   Call CNN.

So there you have it.  I created my own 5 minutes of fame.  You can do that when you have a blog.

If you want to see an image of the room before go here.

As you know we had the big ice/snow storm on Wednesday and here we are on Friday with 90% of it gone.  That is the beauty of the south.

30 degrees one day and 60 the next.

Have a fabu weekend.

Shapouting.....just a little.

NEVER AGAIN

A garage sale.
Done.
Forever.
I mean it.

I guess you can't be good at everything and it appears I suck at garage sales.

Oh I had big dreams alright.  Planning what I was going to do with the money.  Maybe a trip abroad....maybe a second story....endless possibilities.

My husband kept saying "do you think this is the best use of your time"

To which I replied "yes...you will see....it will be fun"

I hate it when he is right.  Grrrrrrr.

A couple of full days organizing and cleaning out areas....pricing.  Taking it all over to my sisters where she had done the same thing.  2 days of sitting...waiting for the crowds.

Hahahahahaha.

You might be thinking "how are you going to sell it when it is loaded in the back of a truck".

This was after we were so mad on Saturday that we threw it all in the truck and took it to Goodwill.

We were not bringing any of it back into our house.  #sodone  #letitgo  #neverneveragain

Oh...and I made enough to barely get my hair done.  Are you feeling my pain?

Let's just move on.

Thursday night I went to the opening of Kandrac & Kole's new design office.  Joann and Kelly are good friends of mine and very talented!

I love this bathroom where they used Phillip Jeffries coveted wallpaper.

This is an office space they completed...yes please on the door.

This was the first space they did for the UMCH.

And the second one!

Here is there new space.  This rendering was done by Joan Anderson Borawski.

Remember when she did our renderings for the Inspiration House?

Look at this wall she did....

It looks like real brick huh?

I think we can say "damn Joan".

Well that was my weekend.  I saw some pretty things and learned a lesson.

Sometimes that is all you can hope for.

Booyah.

MY WEEK

I was sitting on my sofa...OK truthfully I was actually laying there....on Friday night [maybe there was some wine involved] and I jumped up with the excitement of someone who just heard they  won the lottery.

It involved moving a piece of furniture, which meant moving 5 others to various locations.  AND unplugging the TV which made me come to my senses and sit back down.  No reason to mess that situation up with a full night of TV watching ahead.

So I poured another glass of wine and that was that.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed because it is hard to see where it will end and that involves emptying out cabinets, rehanging pictures and then cleaning behind moved furniture.

Did I want to open up that can of worms????

Well...it appears I did.

After my workout on Saturday my sister came over [God love her] and we rehung 24 pictures and moved 5  pieces of furniture.  It lasted through Sunday afternoon.

I don't have all the after shots.....but I posted a few on Instagram.

Here is a piece of artwork that found a new home.

This gallery wall happened....of course a few things changed after this was taken :)

Among other things that took place last week some wallpaper for clients foyer.
The before [iphone pic]

And... the picture she emailed me after she got home from work....I can't wait to see it in person and get the new light fixture hung, paint the door black and accessorize!

Then I went to another clients to hang a mirror that took me a year to find.  I know....most people would have fired me but it had to be perfect and the one we both liked was backordered forever!

So pretty huh?

Lori and I broke down the Inspiration Showhouse room......

I wanted to show you how we mounted the doors that were behind the sofa.  Of course we could not alter them in any way.  Lori looked at me when I said..."maybe we just put some cinder blocks behind the sofa?".  She cocked her head and said "what about some shelves with a small lip on them".  And I said...."well.....I guess we could do it YOUR way also".

Dang....I hate when someone outthinks me.

And last....I really love this mural that was done at the show house....Hand painted.  The detail was incredible and  I'm praying they don't paint over it.....

I also made some headway on my ORC....so come back on Wednesday to see what decisions were made.  Yes....shocking.  I actually made a few....

It's Monday....get this week going:)

SHOW HOUSE UPDATES

Stick a fork in me.....because we finished the Show House room yesterday.  Was it hard work....?  You bet your ass.  Am I proud of how it came together......damn straight.  Were their moments of insecurity and doubt....you betcha.

That being said I am so glad I left my comfort zone to venture into uncharted territory.

Giddy up.

Here is a picture taken from my iPhone yesterday....

Can you believe we put a Target vase in our room :)

It rained every day all day starting on Monday through Thursday. Can I get a "poor me".  Delivery of the furniture....50 zillion trips from my car to the room, wet....wet....wet.  Everyday was a bad hair day of epic proportion.

It just wouldn't quit.  But then it did.  On Friday the sun came out....bet your bottom dollar it did.  Oh glorious sun.  Hot damn.

So many things went right and a few wrong.  After the room was painted we felt like we had to make a few changes.  It was dark....as in "waking up in a hotel room in the middle of the night dark".

Again...before of the white ceiling.

  The Circa Basil light.

Our one window.  One.

The changes were that we wanted more creams in the room especially starting with the rug.  We found this beauty.

From the 1940's.  Sullivan Fine Rugs [located at ADAC] graciously provided this beauty.  Mommie....I so love.

We changed our fabric to this from Schumacher [Pyne Hollyhock Print in charcoal] .  A little bit of a feminine touch to offset the harshness of the stone.
A cream sofa from Nicholson Gallery who were really supportive with other items including some great art work, small table and desk.
These gorgeous chairs from The Gables on Miami Circle.  Another  great Atlanta business.

These antique doors [The Gables] really helped to add warmth to the space.  Lori came up with a great way to hang them since they were too short and we could not just start nailing on them.....of course.

And then cue the sounding of a record scratching.  The curtains were hung.  OMG....NO.

I went against my usual [cream curtains always work] and thought some dark flax looking linen would work with the worst shinny puny ugly trim in the history of trims.

NFW......hate hate hate. This is Thursday.  THURSDAY people.
Call Sudi....beg....cry....threaten to throw myself off a tall building....please make me new ones.  This is a Show House...my first one.
I.
Can't.
Fail.

She does and has them ready on Sat at noon.
She.
Is.
The.
Best.

The moral of the story....go with what you know works.  It's like having company and trying a new dish.  Bad bad idea.

Many changes happened over 5 days of putting the room together.
I will share all of the down and dirty with you.

Meanwhile feast on these floors in the men's bathroom.....
Could you die.

For now.....I have so much to catch up on in my life.

Enjoy Sunday

UPDATES ON THE SHOW HOUSE

Lori and I are swiftly [as in run like hell] putting together the Show house room for the Cathedral Inspiration House which opens on January 31.  If you remember this is where we last left off....

Here are the before pictures to refresh your memory.....

The ceilings are very low!  Where you see the bulkheads on the right and left....82".  Yep.  Then it goes to a whopping 92".

The room was cleared out and painted.

Much better.....but we still have those exit signs to work with.  The electrical moulding will be painted the color of the walls.

As you can see we painted the ceiling the same color.....but then had a wild hair and decided to do something else.  Also you can view a sample of the donated laminate floors.  Clapping for those.

How about some wood on the ceiling for added texture.  But first let's both go out of town and not worry about where the wiring for the lights are.  Cause how easy is it to rewire with this situation?

Take down a board....no.
Get a smart electrician who can give us a bazillion [really 2] suggestions  on what our options are?

YES!

So our ignorance and lazy attention to detail was saved.

Phew.  Good thing we are not professional designers :)
Here is a crappy picture....
We used a new Minwax stain color called Classic Gray.  I know it looks purple.  That would be due to my poor photography skills in a room with one window the size of a thumbnail.

Lights go in today and without giving anything away....think Circa Lighting.  Think pretty.  Think brass.

Here is a shot of a pair of antique French chairs that we are using.  Since the room is naturally dark and we made is even darker [WHY.....not sure].....trying to use mostly creams which is a bit of a departure from our orginal plan.

Plans....splams.....whatever.

Here is something that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

My friend Melaine Thompson from the blog My Sweet Savannah had her whole blog disappear on January 3.  Yeah...just gone, locked out and she has had to start all over.  That is a freakout right?

I mean where did it go.....why can't blogger help her.....what is wrong with the world?  OK...I know world peace and all that but seriously.

So she has had to start over.  The new blog is called mysweetsavannahblog.blogspot.com

Now I have another thing to have nightmares about, besides the serial killer that lives in my basement.

Oh yeah.....one more thing.  If you want to read something funny about how to write a "thank you" letter....go here .

Carry on Wednesday.
