GOODBYE GRAY HELLO BEIGE

It seems like everyone is painting walls white and kitchens gray.

Until now.

I am here to tell you that gray is done.
Yep.....kaput....finished.....finito....

I don't mean that in a "What!  I just painted everything gray" kind of done but it might be time to retire the obsession.

You knew it couldn't last forever people.....trends come and go and when I don't get excited about seeing a pretty gray kitchen then I know I'm ready to move on.....

So what's next?  I think ivory and beige are going to make a comeback.

"WHAT......builder beige!"  I know......stab me in the eye.

I can just see all of you with your arms crossed and a scowl on your face right now so simmer down and lets see if I can open your minds a little.

Well let me make it easy for you with a handy cheat sheets of some favorite neutrals.

Here is a neutral dining room with ivories......and let me say this..... to make it work you need to add some black and green......

More cream accents......

Are you just not buying it?  I know....I was on the gray and white bandwagon pretty strong.  But we have to keep it fresh right!

Be open to change:)

DARK HOUSES

Well here we are.....halfway through summer.  Hard to believe I know.  Color me happy because I am definitely looking forward to fall.

So I don't feel like I have to take 2 showers a day to feel fresh.  Just saying.

A few years ago when I decided to paint the exterior of my house white.... the only other color I was thinking of using was black or a really dark gray.  I think I might have gone there but only if I could have put on a cedar shake roof.....that wasn't happening:)  In my opinion I love wood tones with a dark color....that is a whole other post!

I pulled some dark exteriors to show you how good it can look.

Or you might just say....Sherry has definitely lost it.  And I would say yes....years ago though.

Let's start with some black ones.

I love the brick fireplace....same thought as adding some pretty wood tones for contrast.

PAINT COLORS

OK....I saw another movie.  I guess you could say I'm on a roll.

This time it was American Sniper.  A few people told me it really wasn't a war movie but more of a story.  I don't really know what they meant by that because it WAS A MOVIE ABOUT WAR.

And it was intense people.  So be prepared....but also be prepared to walk out thinking Bradley Cooper WAS Chris Kyle.

Crikey it was damn good.

I think picking paint colors can be one of the biggest struggles most people have.  When I post a before and after I get more request for the color on the walls than anything about the room!

Recently on a project that I have been posting a lot about I discovered a great gray color.

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray.

I had pinned this for inspiration....

to paint all of the doors in the home.....so we had to figure out the color.

These were all pretty but just not right.....so I suggested Repose Gray.

The day they painted was a very dark rainy day and at first the homeowner was convinced that it wasn't dark enough.

Panic.

I took this to show how there really was a difference and that it would dry much darker.  Backstroking.....

It is pretty much the perfect gray....no pink or green undertones......

The doors have been painted along with the ceilings a pretty high gloss.

My friend Donna from Perfect Gray posted about it along with Cyndy from The Creativity Exchange

I have added it to the list of some of my favorite colors which are:

Whites....
BM Dove White [warm and creamy]
BM China White [warm and grayish]

Dark Grays....
BM Kendall Charcoal

SW  Urbane Bronze

SW Iron Mountain

Favorite light blue....
BM Palladian Blue

Great Neutrals
BM Manchester Tan

BM Revere Pewter

These are just some basic colors that sometimes I start with....

Hope you have a rowdy weekend going all "super bowl" crazy.

I will be watching for the commercials only and of course just to be social:)
