BEACH RENTAL UPDATE

Sorry I missed Friday's post!  We got to the beach on Thursday and I think I just shut down for 24 hours:)

I couldn't  believe how different the kitchen looked!  I knew I hated it before.....but after the renovation I was amazed at how much bigger it appeared.

Remember.....I had to do this on a  strict budget!

Doing this project long distance was hard for me but my contractor was amazing....I really lucked out.  Y'all remember how stressed I was over selecting SW Pure White.....well I am here to say all is well.

I don't have exact pictures of the before but I grabbed some from the rental website [as all of them look exactly the same].

After....minimal staging here cause I'm on vacation haha.

I'll say it again....paint is a huge game changer.....

Here is the before

If you look carefully you can see how the island is bar height which I am not a fan of at all!!!

Again not my unit but my exact kitchen!

Before....taking out the granite and backsplash!

After the counter was cut down.

I picked a subway tile just because it is classic and will stand the test of time....

Granite going in!

I also added some shiplap around the island as it was drywall before and got pretty beat up.

Barstools are from Four Hands that I had ordered for someone else but they didn't work.....turns out  they look great with the granite!

The granite is Alaskan White which after research is sometimes called Colonial White.  I had to use granite because it is the most durable for a rental and much cheaper than quartz.

I used my favorite Grohe faucet.....

I didn't change the hardware holes but I did go to chrome to brighten things up.....

We had to replace the wall oven and the cooktop so I used Kitchenaid.

I ordered EVERYTHING from Build.com except the backsplash: [Lowes] granite: SS Granite

Close up of the granite and backsplash.

Damn I'm still amazed when I look at it and I see kitchen reno's all the time!

Here is one more thing that finally got changed out after 11 years.....can you believe I waited that long?

This light fixture was in EVERY unit....

I picked up the one below [which was a floor model at the mart] for a couple hundred dollars!  Of course I smugly went to ship it and UPS wanted over 500.00.

Crikey.  Thankfully we managed to fit it in the car with the 3 barstools, all of the luggage and Cami!!

Y'all this was started on Nov 27th and we got here Dec 28th.  Can you believe it.  I mean there are a few things left to do but Chris worked day and night!  If you live in the Destin area here is his info.

It is a balmy 32 degrees here yet there are people in the pool. Are you kidding me?

Hope y'all had a great New Years Eve.  So excited for 2018!

THIS AND THAT

What can I possibly post about after #projectboulder?

I know right:)

Well I have a few questions to answer and random shots of what is happening lately in my life!  Like that is so interesting.....haha.

First of all thanks for all the recommendations about what to do with plantar fasciitis.  It seems to be epidemic......
I'm on it!

Somebody mentioned that I did not list the resource for the vanity in the upstairs bath

Just a note..... that I was impressed with all three vanities bought online!

Another question was "why did we use wall mirrors in the 2 baths upstairs".   One reason is to makes the space look larger [and cost].  In the master I personally would want big mirrors to see myself and admire my beauty everyday.

When I got home I took a trip down to the mart to order a few things and happened to glance at some new Arteriors lighting!

Bam.

Over on another project this hardware from Top Knobs was installed....

Loving it.

Another vanity in the same house got a faux treatment....

Before

After

Crikey.....

Wait until the hardware goes on and the mirror is up.....I don't hate.

I stopped in to Sudi's to check on the bedroom curtains!

The soapstone countertops were installed in the kitchen pantry....

Bad picture of this bathroom but when the mirror goes in....

Jamie Young white hide mirror

This is the wallpaper.....

Kitty door....

2 black and white wallpaper samples that came in the mail.....

Went to meet my friend Lisa Mowry to see her new place....love the color of the bookcases.  SW Needlepoint Navy.

And here's a treat for you....somebody was going through their pictures the other night and sent me this!

My hair can hardly fit in the room....hahahahaha

Still giggling.

Kitchen pulls

You guys.....I have never received so many comments before!!  So exciting.  You would think I invented black and white stripes!  Every one of you that said you were going to do the same thing.....go right ahead.  I certainly don't own the rights to any of my design ideas....and just like all of you, I find inspiration from everywhere....blogs, magazines, flea markets, you name it.  It's a crap shoot.  Sometimes you nail it....other times, not so much :)  Send me pictures if you do.

There were some questions.  I bought the pillow fabric at Lewis and Sheron Fabrics.  I did not see it online but I was there recently and they had it.  I believe it was something like 19.99@yard.  Maybe you could send them a picture.

The paint is Annie Sloan Chalk paint.  Google it.  It is about the best invention since flip flops.  Rubbed a little Brixwax on it.  NOW I know that you are supposed to wait 24 hours before waxing.  Being prepared is not really my strong point.  When I waxed it the paint started coming off a little in areas.  Plan B....OK it is distressed a little.  I just rolled with it.

You can get those tacks at Hancocks.

2 bloggers featured my foyer so a shout out to Lori May [who I met during the Room Service makeovers] and Amber from Simple Dwellings.  Thank you and I say stripe away people!

I know it is a holiday weekend and most of you have already uncorked the wine and started the festivities.  When you sober up on Tuesday....you can check out my new kitchen pulls.
You likey....?

From Restoration Hardware.  My cabinets are painted BM White Dove.  Seriously people I wanted to paint them a cool color, but it is pretty dang expensive to have those suckers painted.  I have had white for 18 years and it looks like I am going to have white for 18 more.
I did change the outside of my island from beadboard to
The insurance covered it so why not.

They had a hard time getting the old corbels off the granite and the beadboard.  I was standing right there  hovering and I know they wanted to punch my lights out.  You see they thought they were going to have to take out my kitchen island to run the wood under, but after they pried up the granite and took off the beadboard...well looky there....we didn't have to go to all that trouble at all.  We can run those floors right up to the cabinet.  Oh well....beadboard ruined.  Replacement.  Whoop Whoop.  You know I wanted them to drop my granite.
Uh Uh...there are those white floors again.  Who is going to come to my door and slap me if I say that one more time?  Come on, bring it.  Cause I am going to be that annoying person who just won't shut up about them.  White...white...white.
I actually just threw this in cause of it's beauty.  These are pretty easy to grow and I love the texture of them.  Go get yourself one.

Happy 4th people.....Here in Atlanta they have a little 10K called the Peachtree Road race.  Honestly if you don't run in it you are a loser.  So what who cares.  Not doing it.

Leaving you with a picture of my cute nephew.  He was at my house for 3 days and he wore this the whole time.  He has swag....
Notice the key hanging from the necklace.  It was 95 everyday.  He said kids don't sweat.  Alrighty then.
