ARE YOU READY TO BRING YELLOW BACK?

I think it's safe to say that no body gets excited about going to the dentist!  And listen....whether I get a crown or an implant I WILL BE under sedation.  That is not even a question...haha.

But....I certainly loved all of the sympathy I got.

Before we get started I wanted to give you a heads up on a series I just finished watching.

Ted Lasso on Apple TV.  I laughed my ass off....well obviously not all of it because it is clearly still there.  BUT.... I promise you might laugh and cry a little.

Listen carefully because there are some one liners that are just priceless.

So.....todays topic is a strange one.  Yellow.  It is not a color you see very often.  But I am here to tell you that a 100 years ago when I was first getting in the design business.....here in the south....I can almost guarantee I would have had a yellow room painted somewhere!  [probably a kitchen]

Anyway you will find very few rooms on Pinterest that are yellow.  One of the paint companies [ I can't remember at this minute but I'm sure you can google it!]  even picked "yellow" as their color of the year.

As I was looking for examples one of my favorite designers kept popping up....Mary Drysdale Douglas.  I can remember loving her yellow rooms many years ago.

So that is where I am going to start....

I grabbed most of these from her Instagram....

I have read that yellow is her favorite color and I can see that she uses it often....even if it is just a bowl of lemons!

I love how yellow changed the mostly white room below!

Here is a bright one for ya!

I think she is an expert with yellow....

So then I dove a little deeper.....and for most of these I could not get an original source.

I found a few kitchens that appear to be fairly recent!

I believe this is tile....which would be a little too permanent for me but I am digging the color none the less!

The one below is more recent from Unique Kitchens and Baths  you can check them out on instagram.  They have collaborations with Lauren Liess and Alison Giese!

So I have saved this one for the end....a gorgeous kitchen below done last year from Carter Kay Interiors with photography by Emily Followill.

I love it...the perfect yellow....in my opinion.

The stone really makes it work!

Below is what Benjamin Moore has as their top yellows.  Some of these will look like neon on the walls but I remember when I used to paint walls yellow [back before cars were invented] I would use Hawthorne Yellow.

OK....what are your thoughts....are we ready to invest in yellow again?  Can you go there?  I am still curious about this color and I really do wonder if it will make a comeback.

OK....get working on the weekend!

SHARING A PRETTY DESIGN PROJECT

Y'all like how I ghosted on Friday?

Sometimes I get tired of myself...and I feel like talking about me is overrated and I need to shut up.

With my whining....and such.

AND....then I think well this is a blog Sherika and that is part of it.  I told someone the other day that they needed to get a little more personal on Instagram.  I don't mean "air your dirty laundry" but I feel like connection is why we are here and now more than ever.  When you see a pretty picture it makes it more personal to say a few words.....thoughts?

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  On Saturday Rose and I ventured over to Miami Circle to cruise around a few stores.  It is always good to go out and get some inspiration.....

I picked up a magazine from a year ago and saw a project that I thought was worth sharing.  I know what you are thinking....."why Sherry...... when it is a year old".....

Well I am going to tell you.

This house was built in 1923.  J. Ryan Duffy was the architect.

Look at this puppy.....classic....traditional and oh so interesting!

There is NOTHING I love more that a curated home.  I also love that the upholstery is all the same....that can really help when you want your accessories to stand out.

Look at the patina on the floors....and that special bench stacked with art.  The all white walls are not cold at all.  Every room is perfectly layered.

The corner shelving.....love it!  Filled with mementos of travels I bet.

This room is everything to me....just splashes of color......

The situation below is true perfection.  I love the color of the curtains....the chaise and art.  Just so pretty!

You can see the backyard through these windows....and y'all it is a stunner!

The landscape architect was Graham Pittman.  He is incredible and also did my neighbors back yard which is amazing.

It is so organic with all of the different shades of green.

All photography by Jeff Herr and I assume the homeowner did the interior design.

You can read the story here

So I just finished A Place Called Home and now I am sad.  I got so invested with that darn family....

But last night I started watching Ted Lasso.  OMG....I was laughing out loud.  Some of the one liners are hilariously funny.

I also lost a crown a week or so ago and I might have to have an implant....something about "if I do another crown they can't promise it will last"....blah blah blah I had already entered panic mode.

Y'all second to sleeping in a room full of spiders the dentist is the next scariest place for me. My anxiety level goes through the roof.

It's always something right?

THIS AND THAT

I told someone the other day that I need a boss.  Yep.... someone to keep me on task and tell me what to do next.  I am just that person.....I don't want to think about that part.

But if you give me a job I can do it.  AND.....I want to hire someone to do the parts of my job that I don't want to do.....like floor plans.  Any takers :)

If you are my boss be prepared to micro manage me and check in frequently because I am easily distracted.  While you may think I am on task.....I could have easily strayed and started petting Cami or scrolling Instagram.

How I get anything done is beyond me.

**sidenote [this post might be late getting out as I got distracted this morning staring into space]

Anyway I took a couple of days and went to the Mart.  Boy it is like a ghost town.....reminds me of the empty halls during the recession.  I tried to order stuff and everything is backordered.  Covid has definitely slowed down all the factories and furniture is now taking 10-12 weeks!  If this pandemic has taught us anything it is definitely patience.

I ordered 2 of these to flank a fireplace and of course I might be retired when they arrive:)

And I picked up this cute vintage rug to make a lumbar pillow for a client!

Which reminds me of this pink bathroom I saw....this color!

I think I told you that my client painted the DR black and then I found this great white table at a consignment shop!  This space  is coming along.....needing curtains and a rug.

And this wallpaper went up.  Totally smitten with it.  The mirror is from Serena and Lily and the vanity came from Wayfair!

I found an old picture of the office.....shocking when you see the after.

Whoa.....embarrassing :)

The other day I made a cake.  Yeah.....I can see the  look of shock on your face.  It was a favor for my neighbor and Lord it proved I need to stick to paint colors.  I made a mess....look carefully as I spilled a whole bottle of vanilla.

By the grace of God it turned out OK.....

Here was the recipe!

It was fairly complicated.....to me anyway!

How funny is this!  An antique dealer at the Mart had someone paint the bag of Lays on the antique picture....hahahaha

Y'all that is all I can squeeze out today....the well is dry:)

Hope y'all have a great week....
