MY HOUSE

On Saturday [after walking the mart for 3 days] I went to Scott's Antique Market.  I know....I'm crazy.  It had been a few months since I had gone and it was pretty busy with all the mart people in town hitting it up!

I wasn't there more than 5 minutes when I purchased a piece of art for me.  I just can't be trusted to restrict myself on only buying things for clients.  The hazards of my job.

Anyway let's not dwell on the negative.

I have bought a few pieces of art from Scott Kerr and we had never met.....so when I ran into him at Scott's we had lot's to discuss!  The main thing being how much I love his work:)

I almost bought this one....but

But in the end this one spoke to me:)

And I whipped out my CC.  [I actually don't remember that part....but it was fast!]

When I got home Sat night I was so tired I did not even take it out of the car....but it was all I could think of  ALL NIGHT LONG.  Where the hell am I going to hang it???  It's too big....  [I have very little wall space in my house] so something was going to have to change.

But what?  These were all my midnight thoughts....

I got up Sunday and started from the beginning....move everything off the seagrass.... turn the rug around and vacuum.  I found about 20 of Cami's bones under the sofa.  Ha Ha

That gave me time to think.

I decided to move Stevie to the other side of the TV....

Now I get to look at her more as the sofa is across from these chairs!

That worked.

Then my thought was to  move this chest to the other wall and hang the art there but that would mean all of my furniture would be on one wall.....lined up like little soldiers.

A review...this is how it looked before....

When I arranged it like this I had visions of actually working at the desk.  Then I realized that would be the first thing you see when you walk in the room and I came to my senses.

It would always be a mess.....no bueno.

In the end.....I just hung it where Stevie was.  I'm nothing if not lazy.  And I decided to turn the table around also.  No particular reason for that either....

Then I got all crazy and washed my slip covers....change out my pillows, vacuumed the whole house, mopped the floors and started sprucing up other areas of neglect.

Not styled or anything but I hung this basket.

Changed up this little area.

Nice little faux plant from Target :)

These are all lame iPhone pics.

I was still un-showered and in my PJ's at 4:00.  Why can't I go after everything like that?

ADDING RATTAN TO YOUR ROOM FOR TEXTURE

It seems like rattan furniture is not just for summer homes in Florida and Nantucket anymore!

It's making a strong comeback and if you need texture in a room....and EVERY room does.....then a little rattan can help with that!

Let's review....

In my own house here are a few examples....

This coffee table is ancient....and by that I mean I have had it forever!  But it still works for me and definitely gives me that shot of texture in this room!

In my keeping area.....more texture with the chairs and old french basket....

And in my family room....the rattan stool made the cut.....so there you have it......

Let's start with lighting.  There is nothing I like better than a basket light fixture.....

2 pendants

How about a mirror?  This is a great way to add texture especially in a bathroom....

Another small way to get the texture is using barstools.  Below are some fun examples I found that won't break the bank!  Also.... I love that you could add a fun fabric on the white one!

Y'all remember I used texture in my One Room Challenge with some occasional chairs.

How about adding a small stool stacked with books as a side table?  Small investment but big returns.....

Like my rattan basket coffee table the one below would be perfect.  We used the bench in the House Beautiful showhouse but recovered it with some vintage fabric.  The nightstand is great and I hope to have a project soon to use this Suzanne Kasler collection from Ballard Designs.  The small table is another perfect example.....

My One Room Challenge using rattan occassional chairs!

I could go on....but I think you get it.  I'm known for even after making the sale to keep pressing on my point....haha.

We watched "When They See Us" on Netflix and it was so good.  So well made a a little disturbing to watch but well worth it.

I highly recommend it.

I have my nieces shower this Saturday so my sister and I have been so busy brainstorming!! We have to bring our A Game:)

I'm in charge of flowers so I made up a couple to get the look we wanted....vintage....romantic....

I have to do 10 vases.....stress!  Let it be said that I am no floral designer.....

Talk Friday people.....

THE LOOK FOR LESS

We've had a break in the heat here in Atlanta and the weather has been great.  With temps in the 90's for over 2 weeks in May....I was thinking it's going to be a long frizzy hair summer....haha

The other day I posted a picture in Instagram thinking "I got nothing good to post today so I will just slap up a small corner of my clean house".  You know "party clean".

Well geez it must have been a slow day on "the gram" cause it got quite a few likes and that got me to thinking that maybe I will do a "look for less"....or "how to recreate the look" for y'all in case anyone is interested.

You know....all 20 of you!  Hee Haw.

So here is the picture.....

It's just a few of my favorite things.....

So let's start with the magnolia branches.  Lucky for me they are plentiful in the south and I have 3 "little gems" in my back yard which is basically a smaller version of a magnolia tree.  If you can't just run out in the back yard a cut branches then you can always go faux......[no judging]

Next up is my swan art which is original by Dawne Raulet.  It is one of my favorite possessions and will be under my arm when I run out the door.  In fact I want to be buried with it.

I found a few for you that won't break the bank but still give you a good look!

Mix in some other art on the gallery wall.....Here are a few I used on my One Room Challenge from Minted!  Also just to show you.....here I took an old frame and put a vintage letter in it....be creative...frame anything.

Add some black and white books.....all found on Amazon.

To stack on top of the books a black box with gold accents.  Mine came from West Elm many years ago but I found a few for you that won't break the bank!

I found the statues online and a few other items that I think could also work!  These are for some height.

The other side....

I got my sunburst mirror at HomeGoods many years ago and I really looked for one similar that wasn't crazy expensive and in stock.   I was amazed to only find one.... but the other things will give you a round shape!

I found this bust at Ballard Design  I actually found mine at.....wait for it....HomeGoods.

And to finish up....

Some crystal balls.

Did I leave anything out?  Yes.... the old concrete bowl with the limestone water filtration balls.  I searched everywhere for you and I did find some on Etsy and Ebay but they were already sold.  I got mine at Scott's and if you want some [and you aren't local] then you will have to come here and get them!

That's all I have for ya.  Get to work creating your own vignette.

It's Friday y'all!

Take it up a notch this weekend.....

DEAR KEATON FAVORITES

Hey guys.....whats up?  Sherika here from rainy Atlanta and what better to do than some online retail therapy!

But first since the weather is bad today....I am headed to  Soul Cycle......yes I've gone back and I learned to get in there early....find my bike....before the lights are out!  Plus getting a bike on the side wall so I can make like a ninja and get to it fairly easy.

#tricksforoldpeople

Fool me once.....

I have so much research to do online today.  Furniture and tile for my Boulder project and also try to get my House Beautiful project all put together so I can send off Wednesday.....that is a whole other story!  Trying to learn Keynote because someone said it was easy.  Liar.

Crikey.  Overload.

So instead of focusing on what I need to do I am thinking about all the sales out there!  One of my favorite places to shop online....[probably because they have cool home stuff AND cool chick stuff] is Dear Keaton

Win....Win.

In 2 years since they exploded online they have become a go to site!

I am posting a day early to tell you everything is 25% off today!

Y'all remember when I did this guest room and used these over the bed!

Who doesn't love a good blue pillow?  Even if these aren't your colors....get that "boho" look by mixing things up!

I used a similar low table in this teens bedroom!

If you have some extra space using 2 stools is always a good idea.

I never met a rustic bowl I didn't like:)  In my bookshelves I used one to put beads in.....

Its no secret that I love a good white blouse.....

These are just some of the great things they have....go take a look!

In other news I am busy picking tile for the Boulder project so I buzzed into The Tile Shop which is right next to Homegoods [I might have stepped in there also] and saw these awesome tiles

Black and white goodness....

For some reason I loved these below....

A quick run to Floor and Decor....are we sick of the "wood tiles"?  I can't decide because I kinda like these....

Do we get sick of things faster because we see everything so fast?  I think so.

Oh well....wish I had time to chat with y'all all day but gotta get to work!
