UPDATE ON MY SISTERS KITCHEN RENOVATION

Well.....what can I say about vacations!  They are wonderful but dang coming home to the "real world" is a bit of a struggle....

I got in Friday evening and Sat and Sun my sister and I worked all day cleaning out my younger sisters kitchen and family room as they were starting the demo of the kitchen on Monday morning.

Whew.  It was a far cry from what I was doing last weekend:)

Anyway this is the kitchen I blogged about on Dec 1st and this is how long it took to find a builder, order the cabinets and appliances!  Can you believe it?  #everythingtakesamillionyears

There was one little issue that popped up the end of April and that was.... my sister [the one who owns the restaurant] was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer.  Yeah....that kinda sucks right.

I mean.....crap.

The good news is that it is treatable and has not spread beyond the lungs.  The bad news is well....it's cancer and nobody likes to hear the C-word.

She has a great doctor and is getting chemo so our fingers are in the praying position.

All this to say that my sister and I were trying to set up her "suite" upstairs so she would be comfortable without a kitchen.....can that even happen.....and we had to move the bed, put down a rug, carry up a heavy chair....which involved me holding said chair while it was wedged almost in the door while we took off the door......and so on.

But...dang it we got it done and she was pleased.
High....damn....five to us.

So the demo is done...

The above is the changes....we broke into a closet behind the kitchen to allow for a bigger space and turn the island.

Above you can see the closet on the left...that allowed for double ovens next to the opening of the kitchen...

This the the fridge wall changes....

All ready now!

I did make a few design changes....of course right?
I mean that is what we do....I had way too much time to think about it:)

I was torn between doing the cabinets White Dove or Revere Pewter but she has always wanted a white kitchen so that was the deciding factor!

I am using the same faucet that I have in my kitchen because I LOVE IT.  Yes I know there are more "trendy" ones now but I am all about function and I love the ease of this one.

I will pick out the countertops on Monday.  I am torn between using a quartz and a quartzite.  Tick Tock....I need to make this decision ASAP.

The backsplash is not white but really close to BM Revere Pewter so that is what color I will be repainting the floors.....

It probably wasn't the best time to do a kitchen reno but in the long run I know she will be so happy.

I still have a post about my vacation for ya!

I hope everyone has a great Fathers Day.  My Dad passed away at 63....but he is watching over us I am sure of that!

As always thanks for reading.....

THIS AND THAT

I decided to write this post after I worked out this morning and Lord....that WO almost killed me.  I am the oldest person in class.....feels like I am always the oldest person everywhere these days:) and I just do the best I can and push it as hard as I can.

But seriously......whew!

Anyway it was a busy week of trying to stay on top of everything with my projects!  If you follow me on Instagram you can just stop reading right now....haha.....just scroll down to the brownie recipe!

This will just be a repeat of what I have been posting lately.

I went to get some things framed and I usually go to Fast Frame on Piedmont Road.  They do a great job and are very helpful.

Can't wait to pick up this bad boy!

On Tuesday I had 6 pieces of furniture delivered to a client and 3 rugs!  That was fun seeing everything put in place....just a few more pieces to the puzzle....

This rug really warmed up the joint!

I got 2 chest to go on either side of the fireplace....we are going to get the surround made a little darker.

A pretty Bungalow 5 desk that we are using in a bathroom for a makeup counter!

This Arteriors Home bench which will be recovered in a pretty Schumacher fabric!

In the foyer this Woodbridge chest which will get a mirror over it!

And 2 Charles Stewart swivel chairs!  Everything needs pillows!

Another client had her Brazilian Cherry floors redone and they look SO much better!  All that red gone.

And the hardware that we selected was installed.  The Jasper pull from Emtek in polished nickel.

And these in her master bath are from RH.  I have the same ones in my kitchen and have had them for many years!

Another client had her ceilings painted...such a pretty color.  SW Sandew

This is the sunroom but I can't remember what this color is.....

And last my friend stays with me on Tuesdays and she brought me a present....

How cute is this?  She got it at a store in Greenville SC called 4Rooms.

And she is one of my friends that is a really good cook!  You might be thinking that most of my friends are good cooks and you would be right!  A girl needs to eat:)

Let's just say that she whipped up these brownies from scratch and they were ready in 20 min....

Here is the recipe straight from her:)

Freaky,
Here is the recipe for my brownies.  There are two keys to these brownies:

 1.  Do not overcook!!!  I set the timer for 20 minutes and watch them.  The thing that makes these brownies great is that they are gooey.
 2.  I put less flour than it calls for.  (this adds to the gooey vs cake texture)

I made a half batch for us because Lord knows we couldn't have had an entire pan of brownies in the house.

2 sticks of butter
5 tablespoons of cocoa ( I use a little less )
2 cups of sugar
4 eggs
1 ½ cups of flour
2 tsps vanilla

Melt butter and cocoa in a sauce pan.  ( I mix the entire thing in this one pan) Stir in sugar . stir in eggs quickly so that they do not cook in the warm butter/sugar mixture, stir in flour, and add vanilla.

Cook in 9x13 buttered and floured pan.  350 degrees for about 30 minutes.  Set timer for 20 minutes and watch.

Alrighty then...it's 5:30 so I better publish this baby!

KITCHEN DESIGN

FRIDAY....FRIDAY.....FRIDAY
Oh how I love you:)

So let's talk....there were some comments about my pillow choice for the sectional!  Listen I welcome all comments and thoughts for sure.  That is the thing about design....it is very subjective!

Not going to lie.....I'm not really a red person....so of course there was plenty-o-red in that rug!

It was my choice to neutralize it and you will see that there is plenty of red in the main living area adjacent to this room.....with a red rug!
And....I did start out with darker pillows but I changed my mind:)

Also....the coffee table is from Woodbridge furniture.  The console was purchased at Scott's Antique Market.

Today I have a few pictures of the last Ladisic Fine Homes project that I have been working on since February.  Architect was Linda MacArthur.

This house is actually in my neighborhood....so getting to work was pretty easy:)  I shared with you the pictures of the recently installed curtains.

Here are pictures of the kitchen.

You've seen many of these on the "gram" but here they all are together.  The one above was taken standing in the scullery....right past the kitchen is the dining area and that doorway leads into the master bedroom.....

In the main kitchen the cabinets are SW Mindful Gray....yes my new fav color:)

The countertops are white quartz with a small amount of veining in them.

The island is painted Wrought Iron with brushed gold hardware from Emtek.

The sconces and pendants over the island are from Circa Lighting.  The hood is custom.

Leading into the scullery.  I switched it up a little with SW Pure White on the cabinets and Caesarstone raw concrete on the countertops.  Same black Emtek hardware.

The fridge and wall ovens are in there along with a second smaller DW.

Pretty neutral.....and classic.  They closed yesterday and move in today!  So exciting.

I am going to a wedding in Athens, Ga. this weekend...a little nervous about it but the wedding is outside so that is a good thing.

You know what I learned the other day?  To read directions to appliances.....yup.  That there is a filter in my fridge.  Who the hell knew that?

Um....never been changed in 10 years which is not exactly a good thing.  Small leak and some hardwood damage under the fridge but it could have been a lot worse.

Dayum.....owning a house is one darn thing after another.

Okey Dokey......

THIS AND THAT

Lately I have made going to showhouses my job.

I posted about Kips Bay Palm Beach and yesterday I toured the Atlanta Holiday Showhouse.

But..... I'm going to give y'all a break today and just ramble about nothing until your eyes start to bleed.

After all it's the Holiday Season and I will probably have your attention for a hot minute so let me make it about me right?

Last night I dragged myself out in traffic [those that know me will realize that was pretty epic] to help a good designer friend Jennifer Shoenberger celebrate her home on the cover of Atlanta Magazine's Home!

I'm now obsessed with pink and red together!  Isn't she fabulous:)

 My tribe!

Crikey why didn't I at least put some lipstick on?

Hahahahaha....almost the same look.  I think I am 6 here.

I have been to her crib and it is gorgeous!

Remember when I posted about shopping all over the place in Atlanta last week?  Well here was the result of my pillow collection for a client.

Over at my Manchester project we finally  got the rug!
 I'm digging it!

And picked up this cool modern end table.

Pillows were installed......

Another project got this awesome Emtek door hardware.....swoon.

And the bathrooms are coming along nicely.

Oh yeah....there was that one "tear out" before they got it right.  Yikes.

I finally calmed down about the SW Pure White when I found some pretty backsplash tile.

I binged this new show from Amazon

Such a favorite....a comedy, with fashion and beautiful sets!

Cami looking all pretty:)

Blah blah blah.....I think that's about it for today.  I am going to torture myself at Barry's Bootcamp again.

My hope is to get a wreath on the door this week.  Let's see how that works out.
