TRASH TALKING

I got a few comments about my "trash talking" on the last post so I thought I would discuss it.

I looked up the definition and these were some of the descriptions....

"a form of boasting"
"often used to intimidate"
"often used for humor"

Let me say this right from the get go.....it is never my intention to offend anyone with my words....now my decorating..... maybe :)

Sometimes my mood is more spirited or funky than on other occasions.  That is my personality and what makes us individuals.

We are all different.

You might be shocked to know that I often let it rip with some trash talk "in real life".  My Mom is cringing somewhere :)

I want you guys to know me on this blog...when I am sad, frustrated or feeling "spunky" so I have to be authentic.  I did change the wording after reading a few comments....but I am thinking I should have just left it.....cause those were my feelings at the time.

Hard to know.....but compared to all of the  problems in the world it's pretty insignificant.

So occasionally my "trash talking" side will appear....and my advice would to be just strap it on....cause I am keeping it real around here.

In other news....here is some pretty design porn for you.

Robert Brown Interior Design is based in Atlanta. His sophisticated clean lines and classic proportions have graced many pages in House Beautiful, Veranda, Tradition Home and Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles.

Since Robert is opening a retail store here in Atlanta next month I thought I would post some of my favorite images.

There is magic in this dining room.  The trim on the window treatments and the rug had me right from the beginning.

This is an image that has floated around blogs forever...Love the Michael Devine fabric on the windows.

OMGthatblacksecretarymakesmeweak.

  Dark walls...

Can I tell you how much I love a round mirror over a mantel?  Period.

His style is very edited and layered....and I was about to say masculine but this room has a decidedly feminine feel.

I put together a board similar to the bedroom above...

Chair: Pottery Barn
Pillows: Etsy
Small table: Crate and Barrel
Curtain Fabric: Windsor Smith for Kravet
Horse Painting: Linda Donahue
Lamp: Crate and Barrel
Bed: Ethan Allen
Bed Side Table: Ethan Allen
Bench: Lee Industries
Sheets: Pottery Barn
Coverlet: Pottery Barn
Light Fixture: Circa Lighting
Rug: West Elm
Natural Rug: Pottery Barn

Look...about the cursing... as I tell my husband....you gotta love me the way I am cause it is too late in the game for changing.

I read your blog because of your feistiness and sense of humor most of all. Please don't change a thing because it's who you are.

Sherry, I read your blog as much for your sense of humor and authenticity as for your amazing designs. Your "trash talking" always gives me a laugh. Don't change a thing!

I'm in the same boat as Kris...not only are you amazingly talented and I love to see your work, but I love that you show who you are and inject your humor in your posts. Rock on girlfriend!

Is it bad that I didn't even notice anything untoward? I guess that means we are kindred spirits in that regard. Just be yourself! You can't please everyone in every post.

OMG I never realized I was clairvoyant! Comment early on (without reading other comments I SWEAR) that I loved your moth!

We are adults here folks. If they read you with any regularity they'd know your style. Every now and then you tell it like it is.

Folks, if Sherry is the biggest problem you have, God bless you! Some of us have had real trials and tribulations. She is not one of them.

i have to admit your blog has given me a case of fabric-itis. defined as an overwhelming urge to change fabrics in ones home often because of new fabric options shown on design indulgence. case in point sanderson angel ferns. i enjoy your trash talking because it means your blog is still written by a human being rather than trying to blog to turn their words into a money machine. having a lot of men in my life (sounds dirty, not what i meant lol) i don't really even notice it but then some people can be quite prude-ish no?

Love ya just the way you are girlfriend! As someone else mentioned, no one is forcing anyone to read your blog or any other for that matter! Thanks for keeping it REAL!

Good lord! People need to simmer. I read that post and when you saw this one, I couldn't possibly think of what you said that was so bad.

Keep on keeping on, girl. You are fantastic and if people don't like the real, they can move on.

My Interior Life said...

Seriously?! I had to go catch up on your last post to see what all the fuss was about. Then read those comments. It sounds like you cleaned up your words, but I'm not sure why design whore, rat's ass or crap need to be purified. It's not like you're spewing the f-word all the time. Some people are too prissy for their own good. Grow up, people.

Love you, Sherry, for always and forever. Long live Shadammit!

Is it 'bad'that I never notice the 'trash talk'?! LOL! Blogging is usually a very personal way of airing out our thoughts and rants, so I never felt you were offensive at all! Stay authentic and true or else blogging will end up feeling a real drag!

If the flavor of your blog was "Sherry - Vanilla", I don't believe we'd check in as often. Be who you are; Say what you want; and keep on doing what you're doing.

I agree that you should have just left the last post as originally written. I found it hilarious and I'm a church-going, non-cursing, proper-language-in-public-only girl. I think your feistiness is a large part of the reason why people enjoy your blog. That, and your awesome style, of course. You've got to be you or what's the point?

I've always enjoyed your posts and the way you blog, it's wonderful to get to know your spunky personality through your writing. Keep it up, sister ;-)

a lot of things:

my favorite quote is "be who you are and say what you mean. those who mind don't matter and those who matter won't mind." truer words could not be spoken and im somewhat affronted anyone even has the cahones to critique that. then again, people do go around blogworld trying to police everyone so I guess im not that surprised. just as everyone else said, we love you more for it. the personality shines thru.

#2 - that michael devine fabric always kills me. oy oy oy

Wow as far as talking trash goes - it's YOUR blog. Nobody has to read it if they don't want to! Talk all the trash you want. By the way - if you ever want to talk REAL trash - holler. I work at a landfill. Yes. Really. I am even familiar with Georgia's environmental rules. (familiar does not equate to being an expert okay?) I love that oval mirror too! My house just isn't big enough to have all the goodies you tempt me with. (nor do I have the $$$ for it!)

What trash talking? I must be immune. Did you watch Game of Thrones last night? There's some trash that I'm hooked on. Love your design board...and that pretty room with the daybed.

I thought you made a good point about the chevron...we have all seen it a lot...but we we everything a lot...and consider the centuries old zigzag floors in Paris. I'm recommending a China Seas zig zag right now.

I love you and your trash talk! To the design whores!

Just goes to show your class (or lack of) when you insist on throwing in curse words in your writing. Just as you wouldn't let it fly when speaking with a boss, grandparent, priest, etc, the same should go with your blog. Your audience is a mixed group, so no matter how you may talk/curse around friends, husband, etc, you need to be a bit more sensitive with an audience of readers. It is just about being respectful & considerate. It's really not that difficult.
Funny how it's only the 'trash talkin' readers that want you to "keep it real". What's wrong with elevating yourself to a higher esteem?

I was not born in this country but this is home now. I have always felt that people place too much (unnecessary) importance on political correctness here. It has kind of rubbed on to me now!! Anyway, just wanted to say that I LOVE reading your blog as it is. Your humor is so refreshing and is also one of the reasons why I read it (besides of course your crazy talent). One day I will get you to design for me. Lol.
