Guest Post and updates

.....I am guest posting today over at The Mustard Ceiling....If you haven't been there then you are in for a treat.  She always has some great DIY to share with you.......I wish I had time for more of that!  Elizabeth also designs blogs so if you are in need of a little freshening up then you have found the place.

Are you ready for some randomness?????

Had a consultation the other day with a client.  These were her doors.  I almost ripped them off the hinges.

OK...funny story about this lamp.  I was in Goodwill in Florida when I eyed it.   Checked the price...4.99 and started shaking as I thought WHAT A DEAL!!!!!  So I walked up to the checkout and she said that will be 49.99.  WHAT?  WHEN DID GOODWILL GET SO EXPENSIVE?  [blank stare from saleslady] So I stepped out of line thinking where am I going to put it?  I mean how many lamps can I have.  Where does it stop?

Walked around clutching for life carrying it for 30 minutes.....I put it back.

Then I saw this picture on Shades of Light and saw the price.  $250.00.  I wanted it more.  Bad decision.

New fabrics from Durlaee....linen.  Nice.

New wallpaper from Thibaut.  I kinda like it.

Another one....

I was messing around with my nightstand....Ha Ha....my husband came home that night and said...were you taking pictures again?  Yup.  Geez...he never notices anything.

Remember these.....
That became this.  I just threw that in.  I CAN do a diy.  Just not very often.

Clients brass chandelier.....went from this...

To this.  She has 3 brass chandeliers...so one had to go.  Well they might all go cause it is hard for most people to grasp that it is back in style.  I mean, I think only bloggers know this.

The fireplace.....

It is looking good.  And yes those are wires for a TV that you are seeing.  We have to.....it is their den and the only place it can go.  Life.

Random Wednesday.  Has a nice ring to it huh?

Dig in to the day.....

I'm glad you put the lamp back. It's nice, but $50 at Goodwill?? That's crazy! I noticed the same thing going on at our Habitat ReStore the other day. I can find better deals at Homegoods!

You're also right about the brass. I showed my dad some wall lamps I bought and told him I was going to spray brass. He looked at me like I was a crazy lady.

Really? Well thank goodness for bloggers because I've got brass going in a big BIG way in my house right now. I feel like I can't get enough, but am doing it on the cheap (speaking of overpriced thrifting...I asked how much for this brass etagere: Her "$75" Me "Whah? It's missing 4 shelves!" Her "FINE! $30." You have to bully.).

Where do people get doors like that?? If you saw my front door you would cry and then point and laugh.

GW is getting pricey all over the country. I thought I was imagining it here? The prices are sometimes more than new at Target / TJ maxx . I really think GW needs to tone it down or they are going to lose ALOT of business. Love brass;)

I was laughing hysterically when I read your lamp at the Goodwill story! I need to have my chandy in the foyer repainted like you did for your client. Mine is an awful shiny brass(I'm not embracing it's return) but it's a classic williamsburg style chandy. There is no reason to get rid of it. If it wasn't at the tippy top of my house (2 story foyer) over a huge staircase, it would be a cinch to take down and then rehang. Ha!

Liking your DIY mirror!

I agree! Even the consignment stores near me have gone crazy... You can find brand new items at HomeGoods that are cheaper or just a little more for a brand new piece of furniture.

That mirror is fantastic. Kinda reminds me of old bones...in a good way.

Still in denial about brass. I'm old enough to remember how bad it became.

Fun to read this post~going to dig into the day by starting the taxes. I would rather be repainting brass chandys and shopping for nothing at GW.

Love all this randomness. The mirror is really great - that could have been a whole post!

Is it terrible though if I kinda like that front door - maybe in a fab, glossy blue on another house?

Too funny that your hubby noticed your tweaking on the nightstand which btw is gorgeous!

You're right. Only bloggers know Brass Is Back. And only design bloggers will admit it. Because I'm just a regular blogger and -- while I see brass all the time now -- I'm still in denial. And plan to stay that way. ;)

I can't believe Goodwill was charging that much for a lamp. Even if it retails for $250. They are getting savvy, aren't they!? P.S. loved your post on Elizabeth's blog today. xo

Loving everything, the brass-to-black, the driftwood mirror, and I'm kinda glad you turned away that lamp. Even with such a markdown it was still too expensive for Goodwill!

I love random :) I would have wanted to rip them off the hinges too! x

Love randomness.....the lantern looks fabulous! Love that first Thibaut wallpaper, the trellis-y one. I would have had the same reaction about a lamp for 49.99 AT GOODWILL? Huh? What? When did THAT happen?
Great post...as always!

Ohhh my goodness, i hope you don't hurt yourself ripping that door off the hinges, if i lived closer, i'd come heip!
The fireplace area is looking Fabulous! Do you HAVE to put the TV there? Either way, i know you will make it all work... !

I have two brass chandeliers... one in the entrance, one in the stairway. I know that they're back in style, but refuse to believe it. I'm going to try painting everything around them white and maybe I'll like them more. Hmm, gotta get on that!

Nice lamp but good you put it back at fifty clams. I would have ripped that clients door off too..yikes. The fireplace is coming out so well but really? They're going to mess it up with a TV? Just say no! I can't wait to see the finished room.

Love the post! What type of siding/paneling is on the walls behind the chandelier. I am working on a project and looking at something similiar. Kathrine

Ok, I had to laugh b/c I bought burnished brass drapery rods for my living room recently and actually was chatting with the showroom reps as they were working on my order that I couldn't believe I was touching anything with the name brass.....but I have to say....I am starting to like it again. Maybe I am reading too may blogs?

Wow, that is awfully high for GW. What is wrong with them? I love the mirror you made. I have been slowly weeding the brass fixtures out and of course brass is back!

Great job on the mirror, Sherry. As for the Goodwill lamp, I have a whole list of things I left behind for which I could kick myself. I could say you can't have it all, but I still remember many years later virtually all the ones I left behind. I guess it is symptomatic of a designer's disease.
All the best...Victoria
