MY YARD

Hellooooooo?  Anyone there?  Yeah I kind of fell of the "blogwagon" as they say.

After all it's summer and no one reads blogs right?

I hope y'all had mucho celebration last weekend with friends, family, food and drinks with little umbrellas.

I was deep into supervising the backyard makeover and Lord did I go over budget.  I am a "broke girl" and will not be buying cute summer sandals any time soon.

Let's get to a few before and after shots.

Here is the front yard.  All of this was planted about 20 years ago except the boxwoods [which these 3 have a worm right now that I am busy trying to kill!].

By by.....

I put 3 of the large boxwoods in front with 3 smaller ones in a half circle and in the middle is a white Camilla.  Hopefully they will get bigger:)  Then Lenten Roses and assorted ferns.

Try not to look at the grass....they had to dig up a trench to fix the lamp post.  Who am I kidding....it's moss cause I have very little sun in my front yard!

This side was a hot mess....

After
I moved all the Yew over to this side.

So much better.....

Of course it never ends.....I need a new sidewalk so I have a reason to start saving again....

The base of that huge tree!

On to the back yard...

So overgrown....believe it or not there is a gate back there!

See...all cleared out.

And then my vision....
A path.

From the patio....

Me: "So much better....as my husband said....a path to nowhere".

In the fall....a shade garden under the tree right?

Another before...

And after....

Before....
I took out the roses....they were leggy and sparse.

Added another boxwood and a planter that was hidden way in the back yard.

One more before....

After

Now some random shots to put you to sleep....

OK....wake up!

I know....you are either into landscaping/gardening or not...

Of course here in Atlanta it will get too hot to be outdoors so I can stand at my window and look at it:)

Can you believe it is Wednesday already?

This weekend is the Designer Tag sale at Westside Market with 7 designers [including me] who will be selling their "extra stuff".  I'll have things from my shabby chic days and every other style I've tried along the way:)

So come on down and say Hi!

Wow, you got a lot of stuff done! I need to start on mine, just been so lazy and now it's started to rain (which I love). Good luck with the tag sale dear, I'm sure it will be a success!

Your yard looks so nice, Sherry. Then again I expected no less from you!! We've been busy working on ours too. I've been trying to do as much as I can before that afternoon sun hits. I would love to try and come visit you at the tag sale. Hope you sell lots of stuff!

It looks so gorgeous Sherry. Love all of your new plantings, shade gardens are always so lush and pretty. The all white by your walkway is so pretty. I love caladiums especially the white ones they remind me of big feathers. I use those in my backyard planters and window box, when I can find them. You really did a lot of work and it is beautiful, GREAT job!!

Sherry, thank you for sharing all of your gardens, they are lovely! I definitely get it, I LOVE all things green! I think you did a great job of cleaning things up, creating even more interest and bringing color to your surroundings. Now make sure you kick back and relax to reward yourself for all of your hard work.

Nice updates! A little goes a long way and you'll enjoy these updates for a while. I want a walkway to nowhere. We were over at our neighbor's this past weekend and they have a walkway from the back deck around to the driveway and I want that. It's it funny we stalk our neighbors to see what they have going on ;)

I just love before and afters and YOUR are the best. I miss having an outside space living in the city. I'm just sort of spoiling myself with flowers and indoor plants…and spending too much money on restaurants. A trade-off for sure. Your garden is lovely…and I would love to see it more often. Good call on the path to nowhere :)

I love what you did! I am definitely into gardens too. Your husband sounds like my husband--he doesn't get it. Enjoy your space, maybe in the evening when it's cooler!

Girlfriend we so should have been sitting on the porch with a glass on wine in hand this weekend, SUPERVISING the work in our yards! Looking good. Just posted pics of our back yard update. If I can move in the morning it will be a miracle!!!!

Okay, I am in love with all of this! Your home is gorgeous, first off, and then the boxwoods, the stone pathway, and well, everything. At least you have a pretty view for the summer!

There is nothing that a boxwood can't fix, in my opinion. Love your changes and your path to nowhere.

Hi Sherry, Everything looks great! I can relate to the overgrown issue. The home we are renovating is 30 years old .. what a mess the yard was. I love your boxwood and the way you used the rock and gravel. We have just downsized and moved to a home we've owned for years .. and are beginning a reconstruction project. We are anxiously (and that's putting it lightly) the city to finalize the permits and then off we go. I can relate to the over budget comment .. we are there. Your yard looks great and hopefully you will get outside this weekend to enjoy it! xxleslie

Love all of it!!! Great containers. Love the back fence transformations, tree out front looks great, and here's a comment you didn't expect-- I love your black gutters. This fall, I'll be re-studying your design to plan our makeover.

Tell your husband that next time you have a party, he can put the beer cooler around the side at the end of the path to nowhere. It will turn into his favorite "guy nook" of the yard. Heck-- promise him a keg. ;-)

I know exactly how hard you have worked to transform and restore your garden. I used to be a fashionista but when I began gardening over 25 years ago, I would rather get something for the garden. I'm not naked yet, but it may come to that! Great job and a I second the man "cave"-keg thing...or a fab reading nook!

Woodside Park said...

That looks terrific, Sherry! You've included my favorites: boxwood, camellia and hellebore plants. It's a good thing your garden is shady because it gets pretty hot down there, right?

Hi ShaQueen of Landscaping:
Your home looks so inviting. Love boxwood, pine needles and the stonework. After seeing this I now have a new project to add to my list of things to do ... Or as my husband says, a new project to add to his list of things to do.
Bye for now,
Valerie

I'm so sore just reading this! I'm usually the digger, planter, mulched around these parts. I'm going to bring you some of Mom's hostas from Michigan this Summer for your shade garden! xoxoxo

Wow! Everything looks so great. It is 7 am and I am on my third coffee, reading blogs to avoid digging a new bed. Now, truth, I am totally inspired to go tackle it before it gets hot out?! Thank you! I'm getting up and out, but first I must tell you that your landscaping is perfection with your house!! Truly love it!
