A BEFORE AND AFTER

I have a situation.

Not like the problem of World Peace...or Cancer, or being Without Electricity for 2 weeks....but it is a problem none the less.

In a nutshell....
This is Zipper.  The sign pretty much sums it up.  I mean he has a cute face and all...but I can NEVER kiss it.  Don't let the innocent look fool you.....he is relentless.

I have tried everything.  Picture me as the "poop nazi" in the backyard with plastic gloves on trying to get it before he does.

I have taken to giving him Altoids for his breath.

We are at a standoff.

#dogshaming

Now to the before and after....the kitchen at the UMCH.

Here is the before
Here are the details....they could not do much.  This kitchen had just been renovated recently.  No painting cabinets or changing the backsplash....which meant they had to use some great creativity to get this space cute.

Those 3 refrigerators would have stumped me for sure.

The day Jennifer painted those numbers was an ah ha moment.  I walked by and she had a paint brush and some chalk paint in her hand.  About 30 minutes later they were done and in my opinion made such an impact on how this kitchen turned out.

The bottom of the island was all rusted and in pretty bad shape......great idea.
A simple roman shade....some greenery.

Adding those incredible Ballard's lanterns sealed the deal.  With all the great things to focus on you hardly notice the cabinets anymore.

I think most people would assume that the only way to make this space cute would be to paint the cabinets.  That being said....look how much time, effort, and money they saved.    Adding the black and white was perfect.

I love the framed birds.  One frame did not have a mat so Lisa just added some black herringbone fabric behind the picture.  Brilliant.

Kind of makes you rethink those maple cabinets huh?????  These would all be great staging ideas.

Way to go Lisa and Jennifer.

Why does Anonymous keep sending me these????

Have I ever mentioned that I would be interested in an Elephant Tube????

Strange.

Don't let Monday beat you up......

Shafreakshow.

That kitchen is over the top with simple changes. That commenter wants free advertising by adding a link in the comments. Just delete it. I hate getting those. OH, and your poor poop eating baby sure is cute. My dog did that when she was a puppy, but not anymore.

Please please please tell me you sent that picture of Zipper to Dog Shaming! That is the funniest site….I spent one Sunday morning over there laughing with my 10 year old.
It's amazing how some creativity really made that kitchen feel chic. The roman shade, the pictures, the chalkboard…all such great ideas to bring the space together!

Wow Sherry, you are so right. With all the creative uses of black & white, the cabinets disappear. Love this kitchen...fantastic job. Definitely saving these pics in case my new house comes with maple cabinets! :)

Have a great day.

As much as I love the new kitchen, the recessed panels in the cabs screamed "wallpaper here" to me. Something very graphic with black. I guess I just can't leave a good thing alone and that's why you're the designer and I'm not. I hate when somebody tells me I can't do something. No painting but nobody said anything about no wallpapering. Ha.

I am staring at my non-functioning kitchen light going -duh.... the Ballard lanterns look great and gave me an idea. Maybe they will show up in my world.

awesome job with that kitchen! and the numbers on the frig trio is brilliant and will go down in pinterest history i'm sure.

bella liks these mini white teeth whitening bones from target. they don't smell nice, but they seem to be helping the teeth since she can't have dental cleanings anymore because of a heart murmur.

now that is delightful monday morning conversation...

No worries... my little guy was eating his poop too! He grew out of it just like the vet said he would. He's soooo freakin cute!!!!

Linda {Calling it Home} said...

Ok, so I had this problem with a dong of mine once, too. I'm curious was Zipper taken away from his mom too soon? Apparently, that was Duke's problem....the mom teaches them not to do this. Did you try putting hot sauce and really nasty stuff on the poop? It worked for us. Now, Duke is in Heaven...do they have poop in Heaven?

Courtney said...

Love the kitchen, the cabinets do just disappear!

As for the poop-eating pup, we had this problem too and our dog Cheyenne (RIP) never grew out of it! We got this stuff called "Dis-Taste" from Drs. Foster & Smith (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=22287) - amazingly it worked. There's also one called "Nasty Habit" that you can get at PetSmart I think. Anyway, you give it to the dog, or if you have more than one, you give it to the others as well. The idea behind it being it makes the poop taste worst (if you can imagine). I don't know if you tried it or not but thought I would mention it. GL!

Oh gosh Sherry I have a German Shepherd who dines on poop every chance she gets. It's disgusting - she even picks up the big patties and chomps away. So freaking gross and then she comes back in panting her poop breath all over us. I can't get over the kitchen transformation - you're right, the lanterns make that space! Brilliant graphic touch on the fridges too!

Do we know WHY they have 3 refrigerators? Or didi I over look that?
That is crazy. And I would tear down the cabinet over the range hood - toooo weird.

ugh, charlie likes to eat poop, too- he is our 12 year old dog (not my walking buddy). it's so gross and then he pants all over the place and reeks... and the vets pretty much tell us there is nothing we can do. SO gross.

Give your dog zucchini. The like it when it's fresh but hate it after it's been digested. No more problem.

OMG, Zipper is so adorable! Look at that wittle face!!!

I actually caught an episode of Cesar Millan's show with a dog that had the same issue. He explained it has something to do with the dog not getting enough nutrients/vitamins in their diet so they take to eating their own poop. (I have no idea why or how a dog deduces this)

So Cesar gave the dog bananas and the dog soon broke the habit replacing his poop with bananas! Hope this works for you?!!

the kitchen is awesome! amazing talent by all of you! Kevin my dog eats the cat and when he was with us, the rabbit's poop and considers horse poop a delicacy. the folks at petco told me he wasn't getting the proper nutrition/protein so I got him fantastically expensive food high in protein which he seems to eat more of and have poop dessert! i am convinced you just can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and am going to stock up on altoids, brillant solution!

You can buy a powdered food additive to add to your dogs food to stop the poop eating. Look at sites like drs foster smith to find it. It works.

Amanda said-Not sure about the kitchen, doesn't seem like alot of big changes, but seems like a great staged space with some paint ideas, but not so much for kids. Maybe some bar stools would have been great while the mom cooks. Kinda confused about who this kitchen was for the Duggars maybe LOL, but as always you are soo...ooo funny. Why would a family have three refidgerators, how much do they eat? Plus I could see more warmth here, agree with someone that wallpaper would have gone along way...But, your dog story was so...ooo funny.

OUTSTANDING job on UMCH. Now as far as Zipper goes, there is some innate thing wrong, not sure if its chemical or psychological, but good lord, this makes me thankful every second that my dog doesn't do that.
I guess youve googled the hell out of the subject, but what do the holistic animal people say? good luck?

Oh yeah the numbers were pure genius! They knocked it out of the park especially considering the limitations! And those lanterns are legit - I want a small one for over my kitchen sink. Not sure what to do about your dog situation - my old dude is now pooping on concrete - yep right in the middle of the driveway - which is awesome for nights when you drive in not knowing you just rolled right over poo and now your car is in the garage! The things we suffer for these fur babies - do we get an award or something?!

I would have thought for sure that those cabinets had to be painted...but they look so good with all the details that were added to the room! You really don't even notice the cabinets anymore. And the numbering on the refrigerators was seriously genius. I would have been hyperventilating over those things wondering how in the world I was suppose to make them look decent. ONE of that type of refrigerator is ugly enough but three is just atrocious. But now they are super cute!!

Brooke @ Inside-Out Design said...

btw I'm laughing hysterically over your dog!! That is too freaking funny!! (I'm sure not to the one who has to frantically keep his poop away from him though! ;)

Loved the kitchen and the numbers on the refrigerators. Too cute.

About your lovely little pup, if you haven't contacted your vet, ask vet to check for vitamin deficiency. Supposedly, that can be one of the reasons dog eat their bodily functions. And I believe you can give the dog a pill that will make his poop taste horrible to him and then he may not eat it.

Good luck!

Moni
