I have a situation.
Not like the problem of World Peace...or Cancer, or being Without Electricity for 2 weeks....but it is a problem none the less.
In a nutshell....
This is Zipper. The sign pretty much sums it up. I mean he has a cute face and all...but I can NEVER kiss it. Don't let the innocent look fool you.....he is relentless.
I have tried everything. Picture me as the "poop nazi" in the backyard with plastic gloves on trying to get it before he does.
I have taken to giving him Altoids for his breath.
We are at a standoff.
#dogshaming
Now to the before and after....the kitchen at the UMCH.
Here is the before
Here are the details....they could not do much. This kitchen had just been renovated recently. No painting cabinets or changing the backsplash....which meant they had to use some great creativity to get this space cute.
Those 3 refrigerators would have stumped me for sure.
The day Jennifer painted those numbers was an ah ha moment. I walked by and she had a paint brush and some chalk paint in her hand. About 30 minutes later they were done and in my opinion made such an impact on how this kitchen turned out.
The bottom of the island was all rusted and in pretty bad shape......great idea.
A simple roman shade....some greenery.
Adding those incredible Ballard's lanterns sealed the deal. With all the great things to focus on you hardly notice the cabinets anymore.
I think most people would assume that the only way to make this space cute would be to paint the cabinets. That being said....look how much time, effort, and money they saved. Adding the black and white was perfect.
I love the framed birds. One frame did not have a mat so Lisa just added some black herringbone fabric behind the picture. Brilliant.
Kind of makes you rethink those maple cabinets huh????? These would all be great staging ideas.
Why does Anonymous keep sending me these????
Have I ever mentioned that I would be interested in an Elephant Tube????
Strange.
Don't let Monday beat you up......

He is sooo cute, but gross!!! Here's wishing you a whole lotta luck with that situation!
That kitchen is over the top with simple changes. That commenter wants free advertising by adding a link in the comments. Just delete it. I hate getting those. OH, and your poor poop eating baby sure is cute. My dog did that when she was a puppy, but not anymore.
Please please please tell me you sent that picture of Zipper to Dog Shaming! That is the funniest site….I spent one Sunday morning over there laughing with my 10 year old.
It's amazing how some creativity really made that kitchen feel chic. The roman shade, the pictures, the chalkboard…all such great ideas to bring the space together!
That kitchen is brilliant! Wow!! The picture of your dog cracked me up! I wish I had a solution for you.
that's what she said...
Wow Sherry, you are so right. With all the creative uses of black & white, the cabinets disappear. Love this kitchen...fantastic job. Definitely saving these pics in case my new house comes with maple cabinets! :)
Have a great day.
As much as I love the new kitchen, the recessed panels in the cabs screamed "wallpaper here" to me. Something very graphic with black. I guess I just can't leave a good thing alone and that's why you're the designer and I'm not. I hate when somebody tells me I can't do something. No painting but nobody said anything about no wallpapering. Ha.
Love the numbers and the black and white. You are right, great tips for home staging!
Bahaha! Zipper! My dog does it too!! Ugh! It's a problem. I love the numbers on the refrigerators!
xo
I don't even want to know what an elephant tube is.
I am staring at my non-functioning kitchen light going -duh.... the Ballard lanterns look great and gave me an idea. Maybe they will show up in my world.
awesome job with that kitchen! and the numbers on the frig trio is brilliant and will go down in pinterest history i'm sure.
bella liks these mini white teeth whitening bones from target. they don't smell nice, but they seem to be helping the teeth since she can't have dental cleanings anymore because of a heart murmur.
now that is delightful monday morning conversation...
smiles to you.

No worries... my little guy was eating his poop too! He grew out of it just like the vet said he would. He's soooo freakin cute!!!!
Ok, so I had this problem with a dong of mine once, too. I'm curious was Zipper taken away from his mom too soon? Apparently, that was Duke's problem....the mom teaches them not to do this. Did you try putting hot sauce and really nasty stuff on the poop? It worked for us. Now, Duke is in Heaven...do they have poop in Heaven?
Love the kitchen, the cabinets do just disappear!
As for the poop-eating pup, we had this problem too and our dog Cheyenne (RIP) never grew out of it! We got this stuff called "Dis-Taste" from Drs. Foster & Smith (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=22287) - amazingly it worked. There's also one called "Nasty Habit" that you can get at PetSmart I think. Anyway, you give it to the dog, or if you have more than one, you give it to the others as well. The idea behind it being it makes the poop taste worst (if you can imagine). I don't know if you tried it or not but thought I would mention it. GL!
My dog eats rabbit poop. grosses me out.
Why does somebody need 3 fridges? How many people does she feed? curious...
signed,
Mrs. Hubbard's cupboard.
This transformation was freakin' genius! How clever! Yes, the ideas would work well for staging.
Oh gosh Sherry I have a German Shepherd who dines on poop every chance she gets. It's disgusting - she even picks up the big patties and chomps away. So freaking gross and then she comes back in panting her poop breath all over us. I can't get over the kitchen transformation - you're right, the lanterns make that space! Brilliant graphic touch on the fridges too!
www.chattafabulous.blogspot.com
Do we know WHY they have 3 refrigerators? Or didi I over look that?
That is crazy. And I would tear down the cabinet over the range hood - toooo weird.
Ewww...love my furry friends, but yes, some have some terrible habits. Love the kitchen. Fabulous!!
ugh, charlie likes to eat poop, too- he is our 12 year old dog (not my walking buddy). it's so gross and then he pants all over the place and reeks... and the vets pretty much tell us there is nothing we can do. SO gross.
OMG I'm laughing so hard reading this post. The kitchen really looks great, but the dog shame made my day.
Love the first image, it's so funny! The numbers on the fridge is a clever solution, very chic! The lanterns, rug and stripes made all the difference! The designer did a great job!

My doggy..a chihuahua.. used to eat her poop (gag) so i went to petsmart and bought some pills you sprinkle (after breaking into small pieces) onto their food. Did it for 3 weeks. It worked. Good luck! Kitchen looks good and very organized...doesn't look like poop! ;-)

Oh my god, my sister sent me an email with about 10 dog shaming photos, and they were so freakin funny... your dog could definitely be in the dog shaming hall of fame, especially with that face. Too Funny...
That kitchen redo is incredible. I was looking at the before thinking, if they can't paint the cabinets, it will be a boring redo. Can you believe what a huge difference that is! It's totally completely awesome. So unique, so handsome, WOW!
Cindy
Give your dog zucchini. The like it when it's fresh but hate it after it's been digested. No more problem.
The kitchen is fabulous btw!
OMG, Zipper is so adorable! Look at that wittle face!!!
I actually caught an episode of Cesar Millan's show with a dog that had the same issue. He explained it has something to do with the dog not getting enough nutrients/vitamins in their diet so they take to eating their own poop. (I have no idea why or how a dog deduces this)
So Cesar gave the dog bananas and the dog soon broke the habit replacing his poop with bananas! Hope this works for you?!!
Mr. poopy face is indeed adorable! and WHAT a phenomenal re-do in the kitchen!
the kitchen is awesome! amazing talent by all of you! Kevin my dog eats the cat and when he was with us, the rabbit's poop and considers horse poop a delicacy. the folks at petco told me he wasn't getting the proper nutrition/protein so I got him fantastically expensive food high in protein which he seems to eat more of and have poop dessert! i am convinced you just can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and am going to stock up on altoids, brillant solution!
Shefreaky!
My friend Jen, who loves your blog btw, called me on my way to Bham this am and read the post to me over the phone and I have been waiting ALL DAY LONG to get home and tell you thank you, thank you for your sweet commentary on the kitchen and showcasing us on your fab blog for your fab readers! Love you girl!!!
xoxo

LOVE the stainless countertops! I cook in our church kitchen quite a bit and we have a full commercial kitchen there and love how easy stainless is to take care of...
We're getting ready to build, seeing stainless used in a more "residential" setting makes me want to use it even more!
Unbelievable update!! Those refrigerators would have kept me up for nights trying to come up with something clever! The b & w is such a great statement! At our last family gathering we all huddled around the computer and died laughing at Dog Shaming ~ Zipper needs her moment of fame!
Oh dear....you should have given me a heads up...I ALMoST missed this! Thank you SO much for the feature and for your motoring advice. Forever a fan and friend. Lisa
Poor little Mr.Poopy...if only he knew what good kisses he could get!
Those girlies did a great job on that kitchen! The numbers on the fridge are genius!
ok, so if I had to write a post like this of my yorkie, it would be taken from behind and I mean his behind. All he does is lick his butt all day! drives me crazy when i am home. yuck! May be he and Zipper need to get together, Zipper could like Oliver's butt and everybody would be happy, except u and me of course but then...if they were on a farm somewhere...humm....
You can buy a powdered food additive to add to your dogs food to stop the poop eating. Look at sites like drs foster smith to find it. It works.
The kitchen looks great. Love the numbers on the fridge.

Amanda said-Not sure about the kitchen, doesn't seem like alot of big changes, but seems like a great staged space with some paint ideas, but not so much for kids. Maybe some bar stools would have been great while the mom cooks. Kinda confused about who this kitchen was for the Duggars maybe LOL, but as always you are soo...ooo funny. Why would a family have three refidgerators, how much do they eat? Plus I could see more warmth here, agree with someone that wallpaper would have gone along way...But, your dog story was so...ooo funny.
I so feel your pain....my dog does the same thing! I gave upI We just watch her like a hawk when she goes out to do her duty......The kitchen looks great...what a great idea!

Love the kitchen! adding the black and white and those amazing lanterns made a huge difference. and adding the numbers on the fridge - great idea!
and those spam comments - sometimes I save them up and read them out loud to my husband when we need a good laugh - who writes those things???
Such a great before and after! I love seeing this kind of work because so many people have these kinds of constraints all of the time. Loved the numbers on the fridge! And the dog shaming is hilarious.
Your kitchen looks gorgeous!!! Your dog is so cute!!! I wonder if there is a way to make him stop! LOL Got to love them! :)
I adore this kitchen makeover. It totally proves that you can make a space feel completely different by adding just a few clever items. The numbers on the frig - genius! As for your sweet dog, it could be worse! Ours is obsessed with cat poop!! talk about yucky breath! M.
Have a great week. M.
Oh yeah, I like the idea of putting hot sauce on the poop! Unless of course, Zipper likes hot sauce. That could be a problem. Love he way the kitchen turned out. You're right, the lanterns really make the space!

Yes those numbers are a moment! I love them! The stripes on the bottom of the island are great with the stripe of the rug! Great transformation!
AAHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (RE: your dog)
hysterical! your dog is just too cute-the poop issue yikes! my dog sometimes rolls in it--so gross. Love, love the kitchen--would love to know why they need three fridges? Great post!
Sherry, we have a dog that will do the same thing. We talked to the vet about it and he suggested those pills for dogs that eat poop. I asked him what those will do and he said, "they will make the poop taste bad." Ummm...seriously??
The dog shaming is hilarious. I feel your pain. One of ours happens to dine on excrement every once in a while, but not all the time luckily. And that kitchen looks fabulous. Who knew you could work around cabinets like that. Genius. Oh, and that comment is just pure spam. I get those some times and they really tick me off. Quit trying to promote your ridiculous product on my comments page, @#$%$#!!
I never made a comment for this post...I thought I did....
The before and after is amazing....the work you all did ...OUTSTANDING....
OUTSTANDING job on UMCH. Now as far as Zipper goes, there is some innate thing wrong, not sure if its chemical or psychological, but good lord, this makes me thankful every second that my dog doesn't do that.
I guess youve googled the hell out of the subject, but what do the holistic animal people say? good luck?
Tell Zip that his shame has reached all corners of the U.S.
xoxo

1. Aha indeed..can you say incredible?
2. Please don't try to get us to search for elephant tube answers..it seems a bit um...perverted..don't go there.
3. By looking at those very sad dog eyes I think you can plan on some soon to be therapy. He really looks pretty ashamed...isn't that enough? Maybe you can get to the bottom of it...um...before it hits the ground
That picture of Zipper made me laugh out loud, seriously! I was sitting at a table at the beach with two complete strangers who were deep in conversation and I laughed out loud when I saw the pic and they stopped their conversation to look at the freak!
Love the redo too!,
What a great redo!! Love the number idea!! And your pup is too cute! My dog does the same thing...she loves to eat poop, no matter what kind of poop. Did I mention she loves cigarette butts?! Crazy! Is your pup a girl? Most female dogs like to eat poop..and I don't know of a cure...maybe doggie therapy :)

I'm so laughing at the poop thing, Dylan dog did that when he was a baby but thankfully gave it up. I don't know what to tell you but to run to the poo faster then the dog? Ok why is there three refrigerators? Sorry but I keep seeing those cabinets but the fixes are great ideas.

Debra~
Ole' Zipper!!! Love him! I am laughing out loud!
how could I even think about decorating after seeing
his picture! Soon he will quit eating his poop and be on
to other kinds of poop! Our Lab LOVES Rabbit and Goose! It's especially nice when she rubs it all over her neck!!
OMGoodness what do you do about THAT? Ick. The before/after of the kitchen is amazing. The huge numbers on the refrigerators was genius. And you're so right. The cabinets kind of go away with all the awesomeness you're looking at.
LOL Nice to see that we have partners in the game of distract the puppy before he grabs the poo and runs off with it. We tried Nasty Habit. Didn't work for our little pup. I'm going to try the bananas. I hope it works. Our pup is only 6 months old. We are hoping he will outgrow it. Best of luck to you and Zipper.
where have i been.....LOVE your blog!
from the dog shaming to that remarkable transformation to the anon comments. i too get those crazy anon comments. todays were from "how to get laid!"
i'll be back!
debra
Oh that is soooo yucky! My lab did that too...I don't understand how that could ever be appealing to a dog!!!! I feel your pain.
The kitchen looks amazing! Y'all did a wonderful job...I think the black really works well with those cabinets and makes it look so much more modern!
I would talk to your vet or another if you don't get help with your cute Poopster.
The kitchen is amazing; who would have thought!! Did you mention why there are 3 refrigerators? Roommates or large family?

A Special Scalamandre Giveaway
Oh yeah the numbers were pure genius! They knocked it out of the park especially considering the limitations! And those lanterns are legit - I want a small one for over my kitchen sink. Not sure what to do about your dog situation - my old dude is now pooping on concrete - yep right in the middle of the driveway - which is awesome for nights when you drive in not knowing you just rolled right over poo and now your car is in the garage! The things we suffer for these fur babies - do we get an award or something?!
The kitchen looks great. I love the difference the lanterns, shade and graphics made. But best of all, I laughed hysterically through all the comments from your readers about Zipper's and their dogs' problems.
Best...Victoria
I would have thought for sure that those cabinets had to be painted...but they look so good with all the details that were added to the room! You really don't even notice the cabinets anymore. And the numbering on the refrigerators was seriously genius. I would have been hyperventilating over those things wondering how in the world I was suppose to make them look decent. ONE of that type of refrigerator is ugly enough but three is just atrocious. But now they are super cute!!
btw I'm laughing hysterically over your dog!! That is too freaking funny!! (I'm sure not to the one who has to frantically keep his poop away from him though! ;)
Loved the kitchen and the numbers on the refrigerators. Too cute.
About your lovely little pup, if you haven't contacted your vet, ask vet to check for vitamin deficiency. Supposedly, that can be one of the reasons dog eat their bodily functions. And I believe you can give the dog a pill that will make his poop taste horrible to him and then he may not eat it.
Good luck!
Moni
