Confession....

No design today but I do have a few things to talk about!  First of all here in Atlanta we have been snowed in for the last couple of days!  Seriously it has shut down the city!  The mall is closed....WTF?  I can remember one other time that has happened here and I was shocked.  I lived in the Washington DC area for almost 30 years and never saw that happen.

Which brings me to this....I have been walking around my house without any makeup....hair in a ponytail....or kind of one :).  I mean besides walking my dogs and eating at my neighbors house....there was no point to gussy up.  BUT...this morning I caught a glimpse of my self in the mirror and gasped.  Who the hell was that as I turned around to see who else was in the room.  Um...no one ya weirdo.

The first thought that came to mind was "I am a hag".  Now I am not saying that so you guys will get all "no you are not...your pretty"  [course I will give you 5 minutes to stop saying that!].  I am sure that has happened to some of you when you have been sick and finally taken a shower and put makeup on.

Here is what I saw in the mirror:

OK...well maybe not quite that bad but it scared me!  I am 58 years old...there I said it.  And...many of my friends have had facelifts.  Seriously I think about it at least once or twice a month but I am so afraid that I would look like this!
Yea...scary.  Both pictures.  Halloween scary.  I am torn between growing old naturally like Audrey Hepburn, Kathryn Hepburn, Diane Keaton, my Mom.....or maybe just getting a little "tweak"!  Seriously, getting old is not one of those things you can stop.  Take it from me.  And another thing...I feel so young...not just physically but mentally.  The last thing I ever want to be is a crabby old person who is judgmental and thinks young people are silly.  But if I am, I want to look good.

So I will just keep wrestling with it.  Nuff said.  On to another topic.

The Stylish Blogger award.  I must have done something right.  Two other great bloggers sent me the award.  I am not bragging....but the worst thing would be to ignore it!  Which I would never do.

Maureen from Electric Revisted  She has a beautiful blog with gorgeous pictures so  if you have a moment, please check it out.

Cindy from Home Design Love She lives in Austin and I love how other bloggers [other than the southeast] post pictures I have not seen before.
Please visit both Maureen and Cindy.

Honestly, I can remember seeing The Stylish Blogger award flying around when I first started blogging and had like 20 followers.  I secretly hoped to receive one day :)  To have 3 people send it to me one one week...I am totally humbled.

When I was awarded it before I really tried to send it to bloggers that had maybe just started.  Even though it should not be a popularity contest......I know how much fun it is when you start getting followers and every little bit of acknowledgment helps.

So...7 more brief things about me:

1. I love a good hamburger with french fries.  Yum.

2. I was born in San Antonio, Texas at Lackland Air Force Base

3.  My Mom and Dad knew each other 2 weeks before getting hitched.  I was born 9 months later :)  They were married 45 years until my Dad died.

4.  I was a horrible student.  Seriously all the report cards from 1st grade until 6th [when they used to write on them] say things like "Sherry would be a good student if she would come down to earth" or "Sherry needs to get her head out of the clouds".  "Sherry needs to stay focused"....I was always a dreamer.  Still am.

 6. My nicknames are:  Sherika, Sheriky, Sherik the Freak, Freaky, and Sha Ray.  Crazy huh?

7.  I wish I'd had children.  I have a stepson and daughter.  I really really love them and feel blessed to have them in my life.

So now I am going to just send this to some other bloggers who have always been so kind to me with advice and comments.  You may already know them.  They may have already participated.  No worries.

I actually just met Dayka through her love of Scott's.  Another friend who I adore is Julie from Milk and Honey Home  Good things are happening for her this year :)  I saw that she had just participated though. AND...Abby from A Delightful Design  She helped me with my header picture and some other blogging tips in the beginning.  Also a recent participator.

So there you have it.  More juicy tidbits about me.  I don't think I have any secrets left.

Hope your week is going well!

I love a good burger and fries, too. It's a quest of mine every time we move to find the best burger place. We've lived in Acworth for a little over a year, still looking. So, do you have recommendations? :) And please, forget the facelift- you truly don't need it!!! Those pictures are scary- yikes! :0

Congratulations on the award! Love finding new bloggers, so thanks for the tips. Age gracefully, I say... would never have guessed you're 58! :)

Hi Sherry...
isn't it so nice that a few of us like your blog enough to award you the Stylish Blogger Award..in some ways, this award has connected me to more people, so it's really been worth it..and it's been fun...
next, Yea, we're getting old..I'm 45 so I do know what you mean...not sure there's an easy answer, but it's great that you brought the topic up...it's a topic that's kinda hard for most women..but when I think of the women I most admire..(they are all older than me) I rarely think of them getting old as much as I think of their contribution to the lives of others and how they have lived their values and principles and were great roll models...so I've taken my focus off of age and put it on living my values and being a roll model also...I want to be admired and respected for my finer qualities and not my youthful looks...
so there's my 2 cents worth...
and btw, your pic looks great...
have a great Wednesday..

Damn!!! What happened to Joan Van Ark??? That is one chick who should have just aged gracefully or at the very least found a surgeon whose last name was NOT Frankenstein! What's with the eyeliner??? You know there are the ones who have the surgery and then they look good, but not like themselves...kinda wierd...Now Jennifer Gray? Looks awesome! Makes me sick!

Congrats on another award!! You are just a posting fool this weekend...Me? Not so much! lol

Sherry, you are too funny. I think the same thing when I go all day without gussying up and catch a glimpse. I didn't do anything, but put on my paint clothes yesterday. I knew only my husband and pets would see me and they are used to it. I did put some makeup on today just to feel better when I catch a glimpse! I didn't know you were older than me, I thought you were much younger. I'm 55. Joan Van Ark is quite scary in those pics! Sometimes I stand in front of the mirror and just pull the skin back just to see what has fallen! Thanks for the award even though I'm award free.

Seriously, Sherry, you crack me up. I have totally felt that way when I'm slumming around the house. It can be frightening. You definitely do not look 58! I know what you mean though about looking good. I've even thought of, gasp, botox for my fine lines and wrinkles. Our good friend is our dermatologist and of course her skin is flawless, so whenever I see her, I go, "hmmm?" Loved learning even more about you. Your nicknames are about as strange as mine! And, yum, burger and fries is my fave. If you're ever in Nashville, you must hit Burger Up!

Sherry... there is no way you are 58 going off of your profile photo! I am hoping I can learn to age gracefully... I think a lot of times people look worse after a face lift. A burger and fries? An American must!! Now following. xo

Thanks for the laughs. Snowed in in Decatur. I grew up in DC -- what's up with the city completely shutting down? I didn't even get dressed today. If you haven't been to Farm Burger yet - go!!!

I have heard about Farm Burger!!!! Need to go!

Sherry I think you read my mind today! First of all, I'm in Atlanta, too and I have been walking around in sweats for the last 4 days, too. Im about over it! I'm also a new blogger and I'm trying not to get discouraged with just 18 followers! And isn't Dayka lovely?!! I met her about a year ago and she is my "blog mentor". She totally deserved that award.

René said...

First of all, you are not a hag. Those bad face-lifts better fit that description. If you are young inside, it will carry you far my dear and we all see the spring in your step :) Congrats to you for the much deserved recognition.

Okay, first of all, what is seriously up with this weather? I'm going to lose my mind if I can't leave the house soon. (And I'm looking pretty scary too. It's too easy to let yourself go when you know you aren't going anywhere for DAYS.) Second, don't you dare even THINK about a facelift. You are the last person I know who needs one. Seriously. If you even go near a plastic surgeon, I'm coming over there to personally drag you away! And last but not least, thank you for thinking of me for this. You're the best and I love reading more about you.

You crack me up! I have a confession to make also! I, too, was snowed in for two days and did not shower and stayed in my PJs. Last night my husband turned to me and said "you look really frumpy". (we have a very honest relationship) haha it was so true, I looked like a mess and we had a good laugh. We all have those days, at 26 or 58. You do look great though :)

Cindy said...

All I have to say is thank God someone i follow is as old is me. You look great, and your thinking is young which is a huge part of it all. I kinda want to tweak too, but even for a little tweak it's pretty expensive, and I'm pretty sure it hurts... Is there such a thing as them grabbing just a little teeny bit of skin, and making a little teeny weeny itsy bitsy incision? If so i'm all over tweaking! I think we should be "should we tweak or not" partners!

Sherry, I LOVED this post. You crack me up!!! And your honesty was perfect!! Oh and by the way, you ARE beautiful! ;)

Emily A. Clark said...

Well, thank you, Sherry! I can assure you there is nothing stylish about me either during these snow days. I did brush my teeth and take a bath yesterday. . So, that's a start :)

PS--you are beautiful. No surgery! We don't want you looking like one of those crazy Real Housewives.

L.Duncan@Home23DuncanBoys said...

You and Janell are totally surprising everyone with your ages! I NEVER would have thought that you were 58! So you know what that means....You don't need any surgery! I think you look great. Diane Keaton is one of my all time favorite women. I don't know what I would do if she had surgery. This is how I look at it, I'm young and I look young. When I'm older, I want to look older. It's one thing to be young and look old! Trust me Sherry, you look fabulous and I have not met you in person, YET!

Thank You so much for the award! I remeber when I got my first blogger award. I thought I had finally made it! I still get excited when someone thinks of me enough to award my blog! Thanks girl.

Oh, and talk about the snow and ice here. The kids are out of school AGAIN tomorrow. I'm not going to get on that subject. How do you think I look right now?!?!

Kim@Chattafabulous said...

Ha ha Sherry I feel your pain. I have resisted having work done to this old face - just because you never know what you're gonna get (Joan Van Ark, for example)And there's just something weird about being in your 50's and trying to look all in your 30's. And I know what you mean becausse I feel the same inside and am shocked when I see myself in the mirror.Sigh.... You are beautiful through and through and congrats on your latest round of blog awards!!

Kathysue said...

Sherry, OKay you could have pushed me over with a feather, you are 58??!!! Wow, sweetie you look amazing. I think the best face lift we can get is a smile!! Just keep smiling. No face lift, there is nothing pretty about an un-natural looking face and we have seen what happens when they get older and don't continue the work, Yikes, scary!!
Love learning a little more about you, I am looking forward to another year of blogging and visiting here. Always look forward to your post, Kathysue

Hi Sherry, I so know exactly what you mean. Most often I look in the mirror and say, who the hell is THAT? It is a huge fear to end up looking like a cartoon character as the result of a face-lift gone bad. But a slight tug would sure do me a world of good. I'm still paying for college educations to even consider. Just maybe that's a good thing?
Found your blog through Donna A Perfect Gray. Love your humor & loved your 7!

Too funny. If it's less than 40 degrees outside, everyone has a reason not to look cute.

Cannot believe you are 58! You look amazing and you do not need surgery. It's so scary how some people end up looking after a face lift. They usually look worse than before!

I seriously feel like we should be related! On you blog award post earlier-I have a very evil since of humor too-my husband doesnt get it. My aunts a flight attendant too! From what I saw at Lavish sitting next to you-I would say no to a face lift, you got it going on!!

Hi Sherry!
Before we even talk about not getting dressed during snowpocalypse, working from home is so bad for my dressing habits! Good news is that all I have to do is put on some mascara and my boyfriend thinks I am dressed up!

So happy to discover your blog and thank you so so much for your comments on my DD post!!

love getting to know more about you. you are 58? would have never guessed. your still hot :) cant wait to make it scott's, hopefully next month.

sherry, loved this post. thanks for the honesty. I've seen a few folks (and celebs) who have had just the right work done - just a little - so it's not really that apparent. But those are few and far between. Two reasons not to do it: 1. $$$ and 2. we might look like THAT when we wake up.

I have a belated thank you to you up at my place today. sorry it took me so long...

love, donna

I love the pictures! I feel your pain. I'm a stay at home mom, so seriously why makeup? I'm starting to think though people don't recognize me when I DO have it on. I'm nervous I'm getting a little Jekell/Hyde syndrome!

Lissa Pierce said...

Hahaha. I have been the same this week...no makeup. Though, I actually went the mall today with no makeup...I was just lazy. I was trying some stuff on and passed a well lit mirror and almost died!!! I really should have thought of everyone else today before I made that decision. Ha.
And I was beyond super excited that you gave me the award earlier in the week. I consider myself new and starting out and it made my week (or month!). You are the sweetest person so I am not surprised one bit that you have gotten it this many times...and don't rule out more either!!!

Funny, I wrote a post last
summer called "I want to
be Aunt Bee," about how our
society doesn't let us age
like in the olden days....
the plastic surgery, etc.
etc. and the PRESSURE on even
very young girls to be thin,
perfect and to STAY that way,
forever! Well, we both know,
at some point that ain't
happening without some "help."
I'm with you; too scared to
end up like a freak. I'm trying
to embrace the crows feet,
but man, it's hard. Okay, this
is way too long....And congrats
on the awards. I've been saving
mine up for one big post. Maybe
I'll reveal more of my deep,
dark secrets, too : )
Enjoy your snow days....We NEVER
get them in Minnesota, despite
having mountains of snow. Just
doesn't happen ~ too prepared!
xx Suzanne

Sherry I am new to your blog after being directed by 6th street Design, and I am in love with your style.
Its not my style but I love it!
I think thats what makes good style when its not your own personal taste but it is beautiful to look at.
Thanks for the images here.

Sherry you are too funny! First of all, you definitely don't look your age, and even though I haven't met you I can tell your attitude hasn't aged either! Joan was a beautiful woman, it's too bad she didn't get a chance to see how beautifully she would have aged. :-(

Congrats on the award (again! good for you!) and it was fun to learn more about you. I like a good hamburger and fries once in a while too. Hope you have a great weekend!

I'm snowed in too here in Atlanta. If I could be snowed in at your house though it wouldn't be so bad. You live in my dream house. It looks so beachy and wonderful. Just looking at the photos of your house on the other blog made my day! Who did the artwork over your fireplace? BTW you look great- certainly not 58. I love your blog!

It was great getting to know a bit more about you in this post and like everyone said - you look amazing, much younger than 58! So keep doing what you're doing and share your secrets, please!
(Oh, and thanks for the lovely comments on my blog - it means a lot!)

My goodness this is my first vist to your blog and this post is hilarious!! First off, 58! Wow, you are aging gracefully. Secondly, I'm 44 and like you, I've noticed a few things changing and have wondered WTF!!!! I love your site and will make it one of my daily visits. Thanks for the honesty and your home is beautiful!!!!

Thanks so much for including me! Wow, where did you find the first picture. I always wonder if after a face lift the time is shortened before the skins starts to age more. It could be an awful cycle to get caught in. Off to check your home featured on 6th St.

THANK YOU Sherry! I'm not sure how I missed this but I've been out of the blog loop lately. I am so honored to be included in this group! What a wonderful group of blogs--very exciting.

Congratulations on your 6th street feature. You're big time!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...You look amazing and I don't think you need any "work" done. You are HOT and don't you forget it.
