THE LOTTERY

I feel like I won.....not money but the paint lottery.

After all of the agonizing over choosing a color for the body of my house....I am in love with BM China White.  So in love...like marry and have children....commit for a lifetime in love.

Do not hesitate to ever use this perfectly creamy.... chalky.....white.

I could show you pictures of homes painted this color but it just does not look the same.  Because I researched it and even painted a swatch.....but I didn't know how truly perfect this white is.

So...now where are we with the shutter color.

I know you are tired of all this paint talk but.....not as stinking over it as I am......I have had all of my paint decks [and cans of paint samples]  on the kitchen countertop for about 3 weeks now.

My inspiration picture...which I a still love so much that I have an 8 x 10 glossy framed by my bedside.

But let's face it.

I don't have the metal roof or that freaking fabulous front porch.

Here is the sample of Manchester Tan.  Not really feeling it.  From the street it just not show up at all....

So then I put on my designer hat and started thinking.  I have a white fence with a gate that shows to the left of my house...

And from far away it looks good but.... up close it is dirty and chippy.  Has to be painted.

SO.....here is my thought.  Since I have a dark gray roof use a medium dark gray on the shutters and then I will paint the gate and fence that same color.  Won't show dirt and green plants will look so good against it.

Right?

I know what you are thinking.  Sherry.....show us your house painted white so we can help you.  Well I would but I am sitting in a Comfort Inn....only the best accommodations for me..... [in Grove City, Pittsburg to attend a family wedding] as I write this and forgot to take a picture.

In other news around mi casa...I am doing some summer accessorizing.

Can you see I just ripped this white plate off the wall to use [it still has the plate hanger on it].  Details.... #alwaysinahurry

Here is an update on the umbrella situation.  I caved and went back to Ballard for the frame.  What was I gonna do.....I mean with the Memorial Day discount....I could see no alternative.

Canopy + Frame......happiness.

Now that it is getting really hot I have to get my backyard area whipped into shape.....good times.

Shabam!

I just love your house and I swear I have either been by it or one just like it.

Your summer accessorizing looks fantastic...loving that pillow in the chair!

I think the dark gray will look very pretty. I really like how it looks on a fence too. Great choice :)

It will look amazing. We still haven't dealt with the paint yet. Just had the 500 feet of fence painted. Now the house REALLY needs it.

Do lots of samples....I like a high contrast -the darker might be better?
Funny -my parents live outside of Grove City, small world!

Paint the fence...great idea!

I'm motivated to do a little summer refresh in my living room...and take out the wool paisley pillows...just wishing for some new ones...never ends, ugly addiction flaring up.

I know your shutters are already gray so maybe paint the fence first dark gray then assess the shutter situation, you might like them better as is if they have a friend! Maybe a darker tan if you must change? holy cow, this is tough. forget about it for 2 days and have a great weekend.

Love the dark/medium dark gray on the shutters and fence. The contrast with the roof will work perfectly!
BLH is white with dark roof, black shutters and front door. We have people stop and admire it. Love it!

I love the idea of painting a medium gray on the gate and shudders. Get home already, and show us a picture. Congratulations to the newly married couple.

LOVE China White. We used it on our kitchen cabinets in our current home and could not be more pleased. We have renovated 10 homes in the past 16 years and China White has been a winner in all of our projects over the last 4years or so. (B/M revamped the color a bit at one point, and it is so much prettier than it used to be). Your house looks incredible, and you couldn't have made a better choice with the color. Have fun! Beth

Hi Sherry, I just got back from the Grove city area. Actually, we were in DuBois to see my husband's family and we later went to Pittsburgh to see my sister. Are you from that area? BTW, I think the gray will be fabulous!

Last year, we painted our house BM Windsbreath and the shutters are SW Gauntlet Grey. I love the grey...it is a dark charcoal almost. (We did a bright yellow door.) I think I have trespassed on the property of every painted brick house in our hood when we were trying to make this decsion. I carried my paint samples everywhere and would have no shame whipping them out and putting next to already painted houses! Good luck!

It is going to be gorgeous! Good call on the darker gray vs Manchester Tan. I have MT on some of my interior rooms, which I love, but too light for exterior look you want. Cant wait to see the new look!!

Just painted my rear deck railings same color as my bronze downspouts...the white to match my house was very high maintenance. I'm very happy with the dark look. Planning to paint fences dark as well.
Your house will look fantastic!

My advice is always to not overanalyze paint colors. I pick paint colors quickly and haven't been wrong yet- well for the most part. ;) I'm in awe of some designers who work with their painter for weeks to find *just* the right custom color. Crazy. Who has time for all that?

Nancy said...

Just curious if you still love the white color on the brick. I want to do this to our house but my husband is being negative saying our current red brick is no upkeep but once we paint it would show stains from the surrounding landscaping and that we will open a can of worms with home maintenance if we do. I say let's go for it think outside the McMansion box and set our house apart from our neighbors. My secret plan calls for aw ermine and sw anonymous on the brick and trim. Any advice you have as to paint brick or not would be greatly and most sincerely appreciated.
