OK....let's see how to go about this. On my last post I mentioned that I saw Ryan Gainey at Scott's. Someone who commented was very upset about the remarks I made concerning him. For the record, here is how I explained it to her in an email:
I have lived in Atlanta for 20 years so I am well aware of how talented Ryan is. When I was at Scott's, I was having a conversation with another published "gardener" . We both looked up and saw Ryan and another person, at which point he saw her and came over. As the friend he was with started talking to my friend, I politely asked Him if I could take a photograph. He glanced at me and said yes, then proceeded to turn away. Famous or not, it would have taken a second to look into the camera at the very least. I realize he is "quirky", but that does not exclude bad manners does it? After a few moments, he turned to me and asked if I was a jewelry designer. It seemed so out of context as I did not even have any jewelry on except a watch and pair of earrings. I politely said no and before I could even respond further, he had already dismissed me. Which was fine, my inflated ego could handle it.
I never said that he wasn't talented. I realize I am NOT a famous blogger, or "world renowned" anything! Which was the point of the "over exaggeration". Of course, I realize some people do not appreciate nor enjoy my sense of humor. Sometimes I don't even think I am funny......but honestly, it was not intended to be mean spirited and I was certainly not making fun of someone who is disabled [in a wheelchair, etc].
Further more, I certainly did not say anything about his wonderfully talented ability to transform the earth into beautiful spaces. Or about him on a personal level. I was merely interpreting how I felt the rendezvous went from my perspective.
That said, I do have some beautiful images of his work [taken from his website] to share with you today. His 2 acre garden in Decatur, Georgia has been featured in every major gardening publication in the United States and abroad.
Love this.....
I could see myself strolling the grounds.
More gorgeousness.....
There...is everyone satisfied....of course nothing I could say on my tiny insignificant blog could affect this man's talent or worth. No matter how hard I tried.
Disclosure**********please understand that any funny comments I make concerning fabric, pillows, lamps, design, people I do not know, dogs, cars, hair, the weather, paint colors, TV shows, movies, my husband, famous people are probably made because I am trying to be witty, humorous, entertaining, rib-tickling, wacky, zany, off the wall, amusing, facetious, or tongue in cheek. Do not take me serious. Ever.**********Disclosure
Now.....please head over to The Enchanted Home to see what I came up with for Tina while she moves into her castle.....just kidding people!!!
If you get this today...I will be at Tina's on the 18th.
Don't forget about the West Palm giveaway.....

oh my lawd~ seriously someone got upset? wow. i didn't take it that way at all- you never once said anything about him but only about your own interaction with him. ridonkulous!
Take you seriously? hahahahahahahahahahahaha
Well, you did not upset me. I always enjoy your blog. I will never take you to seriously, deal?
People are so sensitive. And I LOVE that he thought you were a jewelry designer. ;-). Keep on cracking us up and doing that thing you do. Part of me wishes you would have said, "Don't you know who I am!?!?"
Abby
GORGEOUS gardens. I could only dream of having something like that in my backyard! :)
http://averyjamesphotography.blogspot.com/
Seriously? How could anyone that's been reading your blog for awhile not know that it's all done in fun, never a malicious intent! I love coming here for a dose of humor!
Btw, great disclosure! Ha!
I read the post and I knew it was a joke, folks need to lighten up and get a life.. yup I said it
Sherry...a few things, for one I LOVE and soo "get" your humor, please for the love of gardening do not change a thing!
Second, beautiful world renowned gardens or not, there is NO excuse for rude, impolite or behavior less than gracious, so shame on HIM.
Last, it is your blog and you should not feel an ioda of doubt or trepediation in how or what you post about. I always say you cannot be all things to all people. And trust me it appears 99.9% love you for who are and what you have to say....including me!
Jewelry designer? Random, little does he know you are a blogcelebrity!! HE should have been asking for YOUR picture:)
PS Now that I got that off my chest, heading to post your post!
Oh please. I didn't even know there were 'world renowned gardens' except for maybe that place in Asheville...or Grey and Marvin. Whatever.
Going to check your post! Yes, I'm up really early.
Boo for overly sensitive commenters! Your blog, your opinion. (The rest of us happen to like it, btw.)
You're awesome! Dust yourself off and keep doing what you do so well!! Lisa
I agree with Kim @ Savvy Southern Style:
Take you seriously? (adding on to her comment)....mu wa haa haa ....ha ha ha
Have they read your blogs at all???? hahahahahahaha
:) Leanne
Really enjoyed your guest post and happy to have found your blog. Its wonderful as is your body of work.
Thank you.
Geez, must have been that guys personal secretary that wrote you....the rest of us totally got the picture. Next time I meet someone I don't know, I am going to steal his line and ask, "Are you a jewelry designer??" hah.
Enjoyed your post at Tinas!
When famous people think they are better than everyone else, it drives me NUTS!!! I worked in the industry in Hollywood for awhile and I always felt like telling them, "Seriously, it's not like you cured Cancer!" Get over yourselves!!!!

Went back through the comments on the other post. Interestingly, the offended posted ANONYMOUSLY! Ball-less coward!
Love your post on Tina's blog and starting the day with a laugh! I think the reason Gainey asked you if you were a jewelry designer is so that he could get some pieces for free - never seen someone dripping in so much turquoise!

The Buzz
I just read your guest post at The Enchanted Home and LOVED it! Never change, Sherry!
~ Wendi ~
It does not matter who you are or what you have accomplished, manners and common courtesy should be expected from everyone. If you feel you are exempt from those behaviors, then be prepared for any and all well-deserved comments. Furthermore, anyone who defends this behavior and/or excuses it, contributes to our already epidemic problems or rudeness, lack of accountability, and "it's all about me".
I love and appreciate your blog, your talent AND you humor.
I feel sorry for anyone that isn't able to see the humor in your writing. If you decided tomorrow to stop designing and said you were going to NYC to audition for SNL I'd be cheering you on! You are hilarious!
Keep being you! That's why I read your fabulous blog. Thanks for the laughs!
I can't believe someone got upset - people need to lighten up!!
Seriously? Wow, there was nothing offensive about anything you said. And the dude was rude. Living in LA, I see celebrities all the time...most are not rude. Being famous is no excuse for bad behavior. And it's your blog, write whatever the hell you want. I'll keep reading :)
Have a good one....
P.S. I'm not looking at his garden photos because I don't like him for the way he treated you. ;)
I agree with you. You described yur experience and behaviorally what he did - more than fair. Your humor is a true talent so definitely keep it coming!
*sigh* I'll never understand why people are so darn sensitive! I didn't think a thing of it, if that makes you feel any better. :)
Hi, Sherry... Tina sent me (and I am so glad!) I love finding new and beautiful blogs! (not to mention a neighbor in Atlanta)
I am your new follower -
Have a great day!
Hi found you from Enchanted home, and thought your post was fantastic. I really love Phoebe Howards work, she certainly has a look and really nice style.
In addition happy to discover your blog, your work is beautiful as well. I am now following you.
My least favorite thing about blogland? The over-sensitivity that leads to bloggers censoring themselves. I often feel like I need to check myself instead of saying what I really think. One of the reasons I love your blog is that you say it! I wish you didn't need to "compensate" for an unhappy commenter, but boy, do I get it!
You just keep on being funny! And I guess you know your pretty bookcase is on the BH&G website. Just saw it in my newsletter this morning, it is beautiful!
It is always amazing to me that some people can get UPSET about something on a blog post and IF they had been a follower they should ahve known your WONDERFUL sense of humor! I just came over from Tina's and LOVED your post. I will be a new follower too. Keep up the good, FUNNY work:):):) XO, Pinky
Sherry, Love Your Humor! No need for a disclaimer! Enjoyed both your posts for today!!! xo
This seems quite juvenile, late into this "drama" but from what I have read, someone needs to put on their big girl panties and grow up. Seriously ridiculous. A good friend stopped blogging for this reaosn.
I found you from Tina's blog, The Enchanted Home and enjoyed your post and the fun narrative. Happy to find your blog as well and though I dont' get to visit favorite blogs as often as I wish, its always great fun to find a new good one.
Yup! I was just going to say exactly what everybody else has...that is crazy someone got upset!!! Its called a sense of humor; worth a look into. I think you're hilarious.
Sherry: Loved your guest post at TEH. My wife is 5.6" and wears a size 11. She feels your pain!!! Love your design style. Carry on my friend.
i know how crummy i would've felt being dismissed like that. sorry about all that drama when you were simply showing admiration.
smiles.
michele
Oh Lawdy!!! save the drama fo yo mama....Hey, My comment was prob more offensive than yours....Everyone is too PC and takes everything the wrong way. Don't sweat it girl..
You ARE a famous blogger! I had never heard of the eccentric landscape guy. When I read your post I thought he was just trying to show you his good side for the photo :)
GREAT post at Tina's. I loved it so much I read it TWICE and am way behind on my work thanks to you.
So nice to meet you. Great post over at the Enchanted Home. I love Tina, Phoebe and thanks to them I got to find you. Loved your humor, it really made the post so entertaining!
I love your sense of humor and get it since I'm pretty much the same way. I was over at the Enchanted home and you so need to start showing more of your wonderful work!
Hi Just want to say I've been following your blog for quite some time and find it very therapeutic (big word for me). The two comments that took you to task re "lack of respect" I found rather hypocritical....what gives a "world renowned" anyone the right to be rude to you or anyone else. Just because he is rich and famous is no excuse. In God's eyes we are all equal and the two bloggers should remember that. Keep on being you. Sue
Could have sworn your name was Sherika Serious:) Glad it got sorted out....and maybe we should all put disclaimers on our sites.
Hope you are well.
Gretchen
Sherika -- It is YOUR blog. YOURS. You write whatever the hell you want. If they don't like it, they don't have to read it and can go read something more vanilla. If they got that upset after reading such a BENIGN post, they have some sort of insecurity or mental issue. My god.
First Amendment, yo.
PS, I thought he looked weird. So THERE!
Oh my...we all have to deal with it...isn't it crazy?! They obviously are not regular readers of your blog. Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve on Tina's blog!!
Great guest post. Enjoyed your profile of Phoebe Howard and very very excited about her new book.
Happy to discover what looks like a fantastic blog, and your design work is really great, I like your style a lot.
Have a lovely evening.
Came over from Tina who herself has had to deal with "haters." 4gitaboutit not to mention Mr. World Renowned? He needs a stylist.... 1980 called & wants its turquoise back....
Laughter is good for the soul, and your sense of humor gives us all a good laugh, which means...YOU are good for the soul! Keep it up!
xo,
Linsey
Maybe he just thought that was his best side? Think we all know what side he showed. People need to chill the *F* out. If people can't detect sarcasm, that's their problem, not yours. You keep on doing what you do, girl. Off to read your guest post!
Ryan is insane. I have known him for years. the end.
You are too funny, Sherry. You're posts make me laugh out loud and that's why we all keep coming back. Nice way to address the negativity.
For real Sherry? I can't imagine how someone could have read that post and been offended...I was howling with laughter, like I always am when I read what you write. Sorry for all of the drama, but know that like just about all of the 51 people who commented before me, we love you just the way you are. Keep up the great work!
PS and by the way, I had never heard of his famous self.....perhaps I am living in a cave....
Cathy
You are so right that Ryan Gainey is a super talent, but you are also right if you happen to be insinuating that he is a difficult, pretentious man. I worked with him for a fundraiser and, lordy, lordy, I'll never recover! I just found your blog through The Enchanted Home. I'm anm Atlanta girl, too. I just spent five days at mart and an afternoon at Scotts!!! Did we see each other?
Wow! I read the posts that your readers wrote expressing their opinions about Ryan Gainey, and really I had alot of respect for them for being brave enough to express their opinions about your comments about him. You had more disparaging remarks posted about him in your comment section, then you did about your adventures at Scotts. Pretty amazing and pretty telling about your readership. I think the thought that I took away is that there is too much bullying in the world and people are so quick to judge. As a mother whose teenage daughter committed suicide several years ago and who suffered deeply because she was perceived to be different, in her actions and the way she dressed, I thought some of the comments in defense of Ryan Gainey were thoughtful and meaningful. The other comments not so much...it was like everyone jumped on the "bully bandwagon." Then the poor person that made the comments got slammed in this post. What is wrong with this world? Insenstive women raise insensitive children. Lisa S.
Lisa, I feel for you...I thought the mass reaction to all this was a little strange, seriously these women need to get a life, I guess Sherry can have an opinion about anyone, but god forbid that anyone has an opinion that differs. The reaction to the poor reader was pretty diappponting she had an opinion people, get over it!!!!The few readers who had a strong opinion about Sherry's comments about Ryan Gainey didn't bother me, but the rabid reaction from the
other readers sure did. Sherry is a big girl, she can dish it out and she should be able to take it!!!Seriously, are Sherry and her readers, the only ones that can have an opinion? She writes the blog, so good, bad or ugly shes going to get some reactions ladies, geez let people have an opinion without trashing them.
Jeez, how catty are these women? Do you notice there aren't any men that commented? How is it that your readers can peg a few people that voiced their opinions about your post re: Ryan Gainey and call the commentators mentally ill, (by shes.no.martha.) Or ball-less cowards? Are you serious? What kind of readers do you have? Sherry I agree with one of the comments, let people have their opinions, you wrote it own up to it. As writers we all have to take the occasional critisism. No big deal, but why are so many of your readers so plain mean, why do women always feel the need to "cut" people when they don't agree with their opinions. Lets all be ladies. Just goes to show our gender continues to live up to our reputation, as catty and gossipy. Ladies, really if you don't have anything nice to say about people you don't know don't say anything at all!!!!
Please don't change, my morning coffee would not be the same! M.
Oh Sherry, I never take you seriously and I mean that in a good way. I always enjoy the witty posts and know that you are just having fun in this good ol' blogosphere. I'm sorry that you had to explain yourself. Well, at any rate, we'll all still be reading your lovely blog and taking in your talent. Keep on doing what you do so well girl!
I totally GET
(and love!) your
humor. Sorry for
those who don't!
xx Suzanne
Oh the drama! I love your sense of humor. It is a gift. Keep sharing your gift with those of us who recognize and appreciate it :)
No worries Sherry. We all know what a kind hearted blogger you are and that you were only injecting your usual comedy (which we all enjoy) into a Scott's post. I'm am off to check out the guest post. Happy weekend!
If you didn't make ONE person happy, then you must be doing something RIGHT (smile!) Because that means for every one of them, there are 100 more that your authenticity has benefitted positively.
So, keep upsetting people, will ya!
Sherry, You are such an entertainer! I couldn't help but read every single comment from this post. Great way to spend a morning!, Never change, girl and please Keep On Blogging!!
Bad manners are bad manners and in this case easily identified by you, me and most other reasonable adults. The complainer must have been having a slow day!
and all this time I thought you were serious. crap. =) girl, we all love you just the way you are. don't EVAH change. xoxo shel
ohhhhh, i just read this... ummmm, sometimes really brilliant people, are quirky and have iffy social skills... sounds like he is lacking in some basic skills for sure. and if he was purposely being rude or a snob, he probably should remove his head from his ass.. maybe he was just clueless...
plus you are funny and witty, and i think you're quite a legend!
AND, it's your blog, you're allowed to make an observation!
tell whoever fussed about it all not to get their panties in a wad... ooops, did i just say that!

adoring you just as much as eva'. donna
Someone people just don't have a sense of humor. Stuffy people like that are just miserable in general anyway.
That is ridiculous! My blog is MY blog, my personality, my opinions, my "vision" if you will....
Geez! If they read your blog at all they should have known better than to think you were being mean!
Dear Heaven! There are ALOT more serious things in this world to get riled about..if they need me to, I can give them a list!
Have a Great Day!
Lou Cinda :)
So nice to meet you. Great post over at the Enchanted Home. I love Tina, Phoebe and thanks to them I got to find you. Loved your humor, it really made the post so entertaining!
