PROJECT UPDATE

Before we get going about design I had some criticism about using the word "ghetto" in my last post.  While it is never my intention to offend anyone.... I now realize that I actually misspoke, not using the term accurately.  Ghettoghetto is a part of a city in which members of a minority group live, especially because of social, legal, or economic pressure.[1] The term was originally used in Venice to describe the part of the city to which Jews were restricted and segregated.

It is actually where someone lives......what I meant to say was this: "My office looks like a Messa dirty or untidy state of things or of a place.

"she made a mess of the kitchen"

synonyms:untidiness, disorderdisarraycluttershamblesjumblemuddlechaos
"please clear up the mess"

I have learned so much since I started blogging, that sometimes I am unintentionally insensitive  and,  that learning the definition of certain words is definitely a plus.  Please forgive.....

I have blabbed on and on about this project but seriously people I still drop my jaw every time I am over there and see more updates.

While the main house is pretty much done there is still work to do on the pool house.  And the "pigeonniere's".  Yeah....that is what I said?  Huh?

I had to look that one up.  Actually it is french for Dovecote which is essentially a house for pigeons.  Gah....I have been letting  my pigeons just hang out in the backyard. I am so apathetic about things right?

Good morning Sherry, thanks for the beautiful post. I am getting matches! I was wondering if you were going to get any flack for using the term "ghetto." Anyone who reads your blog knows you have a tremendous heart and that term is slung around carelessly by alot of folks including my 16 year old son. Ironically enough my black friends use it all the time time to describe people and things but take umbrage if I use it. I was recently looking a home and my realtor who shares your great sense of humor described an awful addition as "mobile homesques" (ok I have no idea to how to spell that) I laughed so hard as it summed it up perfectly! I don't follow your blog because of your amazing talent, its your humor and your humanity and your ability to keep negative or "critical" comments up for everyone to read and your strength of character. Happy Thanksgiving!

I agree with the above commenter: You are a class act. Happy Thanksgiving.

What. A. Beauty. Please don't tell our poor neighborhood birds about this! I can't wait to see how it all turns out.

And I think it's great that you addressed any criticism or concern head on. It would have been easy (and all too common) to dismiss it or take offense to others' offense, but I think your response was perfect. A great little reminder going into the holidays!

Wow, I could totally live in that pool house!!!! I love your wit and sense of humor, people need to quit being so sensitive about EVERY little thing! @@
Happy Thanksgiving....oh wait, am I allowed to say that? Maybe you don't believe in Thanksgiving?

Sherry I have done the same thing on my blog, unintentionally offended, and you are awesome for discussing that term. We live and learn. Okay that house, wow! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving and thank you for all the fun and inspiration you share here!!

This is going to be the prettiest house ever! Your clients are so lucky to have you!

P.S. I've said offensive things without meaning to. It happens. You handled it well. :)

It happens!!! Sometimes I forget that my "blog" is more public than I'm used to being. HA! Love this "house", I'm calling it a mansion though. It's gorgeous.

Good gravy! If people are not offended lately, they will find something to be offended by!!!! We all need a chill pill.

Happy Thanksgiving wonderful lady!

That pool house is my dream house. I love how you responded to something being pointed out to you. Not only did you not take offense, you took the time to learn and pass on that knowledge. I understand how some commenters think people are overly sensitive, but I love that you did not take it that way; instead you taught me something.

2015 is apparently the year of taking offense. You took the high road. According to the "Urban Dictionary" :

(adj.) jury-rigged, improvised, or home-made (usually with extremely cheap or sub-standard components), yet still deserving of an odd sense of respect from ghetto dwellers and non-ghetto dwellers alike

I agree with Jill up above: a chill pill is definitely in order. I noticed the one person who took offense posted as "anonymous". That took guts.

You handled the situation well, though. Far better than I would have. (Just one of the many reasons I don't have a blog!)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Shopping around for the best price from different manufacturers on individual appliances is a good idea, but when you buy a kitchen appliance combination package the value is usually much better. A combination package will include dishwasher, microwave, stove, oven and refrigerator. They will all match and be the same brand and style.

while i would never intentionally hurt anyone, there's a lot more 'don't say' things these days. hard to keep up..... house is simply amazing. can't imagine having that kind of $$ to spend - to build OR decorate. wait....can i say that???? You'll make it even more scrumptious. can't wait to watch!

Sherry, I love your self-deprecating humor so please don't change! You handled that criticism flawlessly. Wish we can all have good laughs (your blog always makes me laugh!) and stop being so politically correct all the time. Love, love the house - the metal windows and doors, the floors, the master fireplace, all the Visual Comfort lighting, the kitchen - oh my, those brass strips are the bomb - now I want to redo my newly remodeled kitchen. Thank you for your blog, for making me laugh, and for brightening up my day!

Don't let the PC world get you down, Sherry. Colloquialisms certainly don't offend me. Your design blog is one of the best and your sense of humor is a gift. I know we are all expected to practice self-censorship, but don't let it inhibit your exuberance for your work and life.

Your sense of humor is the main reason I read your blog, although you do great work, too. Some people need to get over themselves. I thought your original observation was just funny! I have often been castigated myself for my use of certain words. I figure there are plenty of blogs out there, so they can go find something else to read if I am to "politically incorrect" for their refined tastes.

PEOPLE- RELAX!!!! What has happened to our country that EVERYONE IS OFFENDED BY EVERYTHING! Of course we don't want to offend but come on, that was harmless.

PS- The pool house is divine....oh wait, we can't reference heaven can we?

Sherry, Can I ask a design question? Is the flooring hard wood painted dark gray? if so, what kind of paint is it. I am so afraid of painting my floors, but I think that is what I would like to do. This space looks so lovely, I may be just a little jealous of your job!

I am so late in getting to this wonderful post. Sherry, it's a darned shame we have to be SO careful with every word we use on social media. After reading and enjoying your posts for some time now, you are clearly one of the most mindful people I've come across. Your use of words always brings a chuckle and leaves me lighthearted... as I'm sure it does to all your readers. Carry on with ease of writing, please, so we don't miss that wonderful sense of humor you have. I appreciate that just as much as your brilliant eye for design. You are such an inspiration !!!

You are doing a great job! My wife absolutely loves the look and layout of your house. Now I am trying to convince her that just because she likes the rustic look, doesn’t mean that it can’t secretly hold all the new trendy gadgets. A home access panel that controls the whole house would be great. You never know when you’ll need the blinds opened in the other room!
