MY FASHION STYLE

So I went to a movie on Sunday.  Which is a big deal cause I have not been to one for about a year.

I saw Birdman.  It is not the movie to see if you are afraid of heights.  Like every scene was someone sitting on a ledge or about to jump off a ledge.  I spent the whole time looking everywhere but the screen.

Don't get me wrong it was a good movie but even more the acting was ridiculous.  I can see why it is up for all of the awards....but it gave me angst.

Movies are not cheap anymore.  About 25.00 [movie and popcorn].  That is one reason my husband won't go with me.  I want my own bag and I don't share.  He doesn't understand that because it is more economical to get one large tub.

Nope.  His hands are like shovels and it becomes a race.  I can't take the pressure but more than that I find myself concentrating on getting my hand in the bucket than watching the movie.

#marriedpeopleproblems

So this is going to be my first fashion post.  No worries....this is still a design blog and always will be.  It's just that it took me a long time to define my style and quit buying things that hung in my closet so I thought I would share my wisdom with you.

Let's start with these....

J Brand Maria Photo Ready black jeans.  Hands down the best ever.  Yes...they are expensive but I wear them practically every day! [I have 2 pair].  They fit like a glove and do not fade.

I pretty much only wear these and regular jeans so that saves me a lot of money right there.

A white shirt is a staple for me....I have about a 100.  Nah.... but one whole section in my closet is all white.

I love Banana Republic no iron fitted shirts but they run small so I go up a size.

A pair of black ballet shoes.

I have these Cole Hann flats and they are so comfy.  I got them on sale and might buy another pair.

I am strictly a small cross body black purse kind of gal.  I like hands free.

I like this one from BR.  I never got into the large purse trend.

When I travel or need more space I use a bag like this also from BR.
I keep it basic.....

I love boots in the winter and I have both of these from Fry.  The tall ones are 5 years old and at the end of each season I take them to be shined up so they are ready for the next year!  Yes...they are pricy but I always wait for a 20% off sale.  Plus they will last.

I shop a lot at BR, J Crew and Madewell.  Here are a few great looks....

Surprise....all neutrals.

I recently purchased this scarf and shirt from BR.  You can always catch a "40% of everything in the store" sale....which I did!

The denim work shirt.....I might have about 10 of them....if my husband is reading....which he never does but you can bet [with my luck] somehow he will stumble across this post....I only have 2.

Goes great with white and black jeans.

Again more neutrals.

I am sure it looks a bit boring to most of you but it saves me from standing in my closet....with that deer in the headlights kind of look.

It is a little like how I approach design....neutrals but then I can add some color and pattern with pillows.

Who knew.

Just to keep the design ball rolling .....this chair that I saw on Classic Casual Home slayed me.

Mommie.

Enjoy Tuesday.

It sounds to me like you have nailed down your look and it is classic and timeless. You always look adorable in your photos, so it is working for you. Interesting how we dress like we decorate our homes isn't it? I just did a fashion post on wide pant legs that are coming back, I am a happy girl....http://goodlifeofdesign.blogspot.com/2015/01/wide-and-white.html

You nailed my style to a T. The chambray shirt, white denim, and chucks is my uniform. I'm sure people at my daughter's school seriously wonder if I own anything else :D

i love your picks - classic! where is that short grey coat from near the bottom?!

I have both of those exact pair of Frye boots - plus the tall ones in black as well. My short brown are a 12 year old pair of Cole Haans. A good pair of boots is the best investment...

Our closets are twins as I have most of what you posted - white shirts - check, chambray -check, Frye -check, J Brand jeans - check…..but Birdman? You really liked it? I must not be very sophisticated because I just didn't get it.

And I totally cracked up about your need for your own popcorn - I feel EXACTLY the same way!

I'm in the market for black jeans. I'll check out J. Brand. I like those suede booties. Where might I find them? The "Bird Man cast" was brilliant. I didn't get it though.

Nice picks! I'm liking the dress with more neutrals too and add a statement necklace for a p.o.c.

I'm with ya on the neutrals! I could live in black and grey everything. Throw in a little army green and I am one happy girl! That whole chair vignette is just stupid good.

I love this post, it's hilarious! Let's face it, one large anything is always cheaper than two small anything when it comes to food and drinks so hubby and I always share. We fight and race who get to eat more/ drink more, frankly it's getting out of hand so I can totally relate!

Like you, I am also a big fan of BR outfits and pants. Their designs are nice/ classic and the prices not too crazy expensive (not cheap but still reasonable when they have sales)!

The tops in your closet are very nearly identical to a lot of the tops in my closet.

I am a Chico's girl.

I do not wear jeans, just not built for them, but I have a couple of brands of black pants I wear. Foot injury a few years ago keeps me in Clark's clogs, sandals, and flip flops.

Bring on those chambray shirts and white ones too. And what is there to say about my scarf obsession.

I like your style, Sherry!!

It's so funny how we all dress like we decorate - you and I are two peas in a pod! Have you been to Banana recently? They have the cutest white button-down shirts with black patterns - I picked up two of them over the weekend. Now I'm off to investigate those black jeans you love so much - I need them!

To think I used to wear business suits and panty HOSE! Just getting rid of those things was so liberating! I am going to stare at those short suede boots, just a little bit longer!

Thanks for sharing all the great looks. I really like them all. You can never go wrong with neutral basics and add pops of color. So much easier to plan a wardrobe that way and keeps you from wasting so much money in the long run.

Thanks for all of these as I love each one. I have gotten to where I dread clothes shopping and recommendations for cureent and quality pieces are so helpful. I for one will be looking forward to future postings like this so do tell!

I love your style! It's very similar to mine actually. I'm not huge on colors and prefer to wear a minimalist color scheme as well. However, because bright colors do look nice on my skin tone, sometimes I verge out of my color 'comfort' zone. I personally find your 'taste' to be very classic with a lot of basic and essential pieces. I like it a lot!

I'm a BR girl, too. I have to try those black jeans. But tell me, do you ever do heels with skinny jeans? I just can't find it in me at 50. Feels like I'm trying too hard (I over analyze me to death, doesn't mean I think it can't be done ;-)

I'm dying at your husbands shovel hands. Mine does the same thing and I get so anxious! I'm sure people think I'm awful when I tell him I'm absolutely not going to share with him. Love this post. I think we have the same style. I need more white button downs so I will check the BR ones out!
