CHRISTMAS DECORATING PART ONE

Every year I think maybe I won't do any decorating.....then I get shamed by all of the blog tours and great ideas on the web and I fold like a cheap tent.

The first thing I did was drive all over tarnation looking for black and white stripe ribbon.  That was a bust.

After going to HG's, Marshall's, Michaels, and Target I gave up.  It looks like every blogger in the city bought it all.  Of course they probably started in November:)

OK....scratch that..... go up to the attic and dig through what I hastily shoved into bins last year.

I am thinking you better  bring your expectations way....way down.

This shot is the entrance after coming through my foyer.  A plaid bow, some greenery from the back yard and a strand of gold mercury glass beads from West Elm [all Christmas decor is 30% off].

Easy peasy.

I added a few small mercury glass balls on top of my limestone sewer balls....

Whew...exhausted.

Moving into the LR

Who am I kidding....it's all one room actually:)  There is my one piece of stripe ribbon that started the hunt.

I mean black and white ribbon was made for me right?

You can see I went all out  here....with some more greenery and a large glass ball.  Are you scratching your head wondering what all the fuss is about?  It looks so much prettier at night with all the candles lit and Christmas music playing:)

I know....lame.  And guess what?  Of course I am going to stretch this out for another post cause what else is there to talk about in December?

Go ahead and hate.

I can take it.

And it will give me time to steal some more ideas from y'all:)

16 days.

Oh, you crack me up!! I like your simple decor. Easy to put away, right?

I agree with you! I felt bombarded with all the keener bloggers who decorated after Halloween and was going to dig in my heels. But alas out cam the decor items. I too was thinking as I hung up random white and gold balls, how nice it would be to have some black and white striped ribbon - you and I are both on the same page! Next year I'll get the ball rolling early and order some online....black ribbon will have to do this year.
Love what you have done!

Believe it or not, WALMART has super thick black and white striped grosgrain ribbon for super cheap! It's worth fighting the masses to go in and stock up! Comes in red or navy blue, too!

Love that it's light and fresh. But, what the heck is a limestone sewer ball? I got sidetracked googling but I'm still not sure. Ha, ha! Look forward to installment #2.

Sherry love the black and white touches with greenery. You can't go wrong with that, ever. Love the way you presented your beautiful home, always with a great sense of humor. The touch of gold is so pretty. I feel you pain when It comes to ribbon. Since I have used the black and white striped for years, I know it is not always available, same with the paper, but I have found it online and I buy in bulk. I get my paper at Nashville wraps and my ribbon from paper mart or amazon. I have also found it at Walmart, but not the real wide, I buy the whole 10yd bolt there. I know it doesn't help with this year, but maybe for the future. Here is a link to amazon....http://www.amazon.com/Black-White-Striped-Grosgrain-Ribbon/dp/B00OMJMI1O/ref=sr_1_2?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1418141625&sr=1-2&keywords=2+in.+black+striped+ribbon

Haha! I think we all get a little like that trying to scramble to put things together, and I totally agree...most bloggers have their Christmas stuff done and up following Halloween ;-) But I love your room and the simplicity of it--the bowl of mercury and limestone balls is my favorite!!

I think it all looks gorgeous! Simple can definitely be better. You'll be laughing all the way into January when you have so much less to clean up!

Oh I have SO much of the black and white ribbon...would love to share it but have no clue where it's at....I've got so many missing items still packed away from our move. I don't know what's worse, never buying it or not being able to find it when you've already bought it. hahaha doesn't matter because your place looks fabulous as usual :)

So fresh and pretty...and you've done a lot more than I have. Maybe tomorrow... The Christmas decor is hard to get to...our closet is so crammed. But once it's out...I think I know what will happen.

Oh my goodness you are hilarious! I love what you did-- it's simple and is the approach I'm taking with my holiday decorating this year. By the way-- I got my black and white ribbon from Etsy since I was also looking all over the place and couldn't find what I wanted.

Your home is so gorgeous on its own, you don't need a lot of Christmas decor.

Hi Sherry, I bought a boxwood wreath and thought, wouldn't black & white ribbon look great with it! Of course, I never even went to look for it! I used my red/gold ribbon from last year! Merry Christmas!

You are so right about being shamed into decorating! I wasn't in the mood this year either! What you are doing is exactly what I plan to do next year...simple...and beautiful!!

Bah, Humbug! Your place looks great! I brought in some cedar berries and cedar garland and called it a season! Decorating at the shop is enough for me! Ho, Ho!

Sherry, I absolutely love this. Love all the white. Would like to see a better photo of the black and white floral sofa pillows -- they look fabulous from a glimpse. I think holiday decor is best done very minimalistically like they do in Sweden. No overkill and excess. Love what you did with black and white.

Oh man, i love the black and white ribbon, and the plaid ribbon too! I didn't know that was a "thing" but now i see why. Your house looks so freakin gorgeous. I think your holiday touches are perfect. I have one of those "bins" upstairs that i dread dragging out and was thinking of just putting up my little white thrift store tree with white lights and let that be the end of it. Geesh by the time i get the stuff out, it will be time to put it back up. Anyway, love the greens tucked in with the the blacks and whites in your house... too fantastic

Simple and lovely! I am going the simple route this year too...so busy with work that the thought of going "all out" with holiday decorating was leaving me feeling overwelmed and exhausted just thinking about it! Finally got the tree up last night...the kids are happy. Enjoy the holidays! Elle @ Summerland Homes & Gardens

If you think that is lame you are crazy!! Beautiful and chic!! I have done nothing this year because we move in February. Instead we'll arrive in Sweden the day before Christmas, I'll whip out the same old Christmas decor as every year, hang the crap in a rush only to be annoyed I have to pack it all up before I leave a few days later. Now that is bad! As soon as we move in to our new house here in LA I promised my son we would be like other people and have a nicely decorated homes for Christmas!!
