A LITTLE BEHIND.....

I know I have said this before but sometimes I feel like I am trying to keep marbles from rolling off a glass table.

WHY can't I get organized?

Why can't I stay on task?

Why?

OK...enough complaining.

I came home from the beach and silly me....scheduled a photo shoot for 2 days later.  So I had to clean my house....not just clean but you know....go from room to room and make sure I liked what I was seeing.

That meant a little pillow moving.....tweaking of accessories.

Which was similar to trying to pack for a trip.  You know....rip through your clothes putting things together looking for that pair of earrings that are somewhere........next thing you know....everything you own is on your bed.

I thought I would use one of my extra bedrooms for staging "supplies" :) while I moved everything around.  It hit me when the room was so full I could hardly find what I needed.

That is it people.  No more pillows, no more cute little accessories....done.  I mean it.

I don't want to think about moving crap around anymore.  It takes way too much energy and could be why my brain feels like someone with 10 personalities.  I want it to be like the 70's when people decorated their home and it stayed that way for 25 years.  Like when your Mom vacuumed and the nap of the carpet all went one way....and she could tell if you walked on it.

But....OK....for the last time......whatever.

Here are some of the changes.

I rearranged my bookshelves a little.  Moved my gallery wall picture.

Can I put fake hydrangea in there when these die?  Ok...I was just asking....never mind.

Collection of old bottles....under my TV.  I will be so sad when my TV dies....it is white and they don't make it anymore.

Ikea rug.  My white floors are doing great....after a year!

Corner in my bedroom....

Purdy pink peonies.....

OK...2 new pillows.  BUT that is it.  Do not let me skate on this.....be tough.  Please.

Now for a little story.

The other day I had to go to a fancy law office to sign some papers.  I was all dressed but then I thought before I put my shoes on I would walk my dogs.

Then I got distracted....yeah....there's a news flash for you.....and didn't have time.

As I was waiting in the lobby admiring the view of the skyline of Atlanta from the 26th floor I made the mistake of looking down at my feet.

Gasp.

I forgot to change into my shoes.  I still had on my flip flops.
AYFKM?????  I am such a loser.  Is this what getting old is about?  Will I be leaving my house in my slippers next...then maybe I will forget to get dressed and show up somewhere in my pajamas.

This is NOT working for me people.  I can handle that stray chin hair.....but please let me be dressed like a normal person.

Sha Freak Show....

At least you don't have cankles! I think the sandals are cute. . . And, I don't believe you about no more pillows. But, that's okay. Love your changes. Now, what's going on with this photoshoot? You're a busy bee.

do NOT call yourself a loser, you are anything but. love that rug - cant believe its Ikea. Thank goodness you answered your own question about fake hydrangeas, we didnt want to have to for you. and just reading this, i can tell you all all over the place. poor thing, hope you catch a break soon. and yes - please more details about the photo shoot!

You always have me cracking up and I'm so curious about the photo shoot! Two things that your post reminded me of - 1 great article in the NY Times last week about "are we overpropped" that I'm posting about tomorrow and then 2 - friend of mine is an Occupational Therapist and posted on FB last night that she was asked to pluck chin hairs for an elderly woman - I guess that's what an OT is for sometimes. I've done the "forgot to change my shoes" thing before and was so embarrassed.

Love the floral pillow. Do you have store information (or even better, fabric info)?

Omg that was so funny... i can totally completely relate ... and ummmm.... i really like those new pillows, so don't expect me to be a good influence on you!

Woohoo....PILLOW SALE! I need some (well not really, but I THINK I do!)

ok on the flip flop thing...this morning I was painting my face, put the blush on, went to the mascara, and then back to the blush - huh? Talk about short term memory loss. YUCKY.

I would imagine the lawyers (if they were me) didn't even notice! You got such a purdy face, I am sure they got stuck there!

xo

BTW - all your restyling looks fab...wanna come over and tackle mine?

LiveLaughDecorate said...

LMAO! Yes maam, we will help to save you from yourself because as much as we love ya honey, walking into a fancy law firm with no clothes is NOT something we wanna read in this fine blog of yours, or hear of on the Atlanta news stations - although it would be a hoot! The flip flops were at least cute, and I'm sure the fancy lawyer wished that he or she had worn some comfy shoes as well. And definitely a no on the fake Hydrangeas. No fake flowers hon. Ever.

I love all of your old bottles! I must say that you're not the only one to do that (with the shoes). One time I was wearing the oldest yuckiest shoes to work in the yard and then decided I needed to go shopping later. I forgot to change shoes and was horrified to look down and see what I had on my feet! Yep.....been there. Very embarrasing. I'm more careful now. Ha!

You crack me up!! too funny. If it makes you feel better, I tried on shoes with my outfit to see which would work best, I had one color on one foot and another color on the other foot. I went out to warm up my car before going to work and looked down, Thank God, came in and changed, but laughed all the way to work. I was in my forties!! It can happen at any age!!!

Love all your beautiful vignettes, you are such a talent, and don't say no more pillows! You know that will never work.

I just spent a couple of days organizing my closet, mostly shoes and jewelry. I should be saying no more jewelry!!! xo Kathysue

Everything looks spot on. Hope the photo shoot goes well! And no worries about your shoes - I once did the same thing...but with slippers. I was on the way home from the grocery store before I even realized I had them on. Good gracious.

Sherry, I had the laugh at the shoe thing because I once went to work with two different style shoes on! Your home looks beautiful and I love the new pillows.

Actually, Sherry, your flip flops are stylish! I was expecting the .39 cent kind (dating myself) from the drug store). I bet no one noticed!

My friend found herself in the middle of MC Moore in her slippers. This could happen to you girl. I like your flip flops and your dogs are happy. Love the new pillows & good luck with the shoot!

I am laughing so hard at the flip flops. Alas, middle age can do that. I too am always rearranging the house. Its a family joke..."what did Mom change today?" Guess it is pretty common for those of us who love interiors and are creative thinkers. Nice pillows!

Love all your pictures Sherry...beautiful as always. Will we get to see the shoot in a magazine I hope?

At least you had on nice flip flops and not the $2 rubber ones from Old Navy. :)

Have a good one...

You're too funny Sherry. I know how you feel about going 90 miles a minute and feeling like you have 10 personalities. I've been feeling the same way lately.

Love all of the changes you have made, especially your pretty collection of vintage bottles. I want to hear more about the photo shoot!

Laughing as usual... and sadly can so relate (chin hairs and all). I am two weeks into NEVER changing anything around again and feeling strong. Took a cute little Ikat bowl out of a stash I have to style a client's house this morning "just to see how it would look in my house, haha" and then put it back in the bag. I am loving my pared down and severely edited house. But I can say that because I have brand new pillows. :D

Gosh, I SO hear you
about the STUFF. I
am hacking away at
drawers and cupboards
and trying to live more
wabi-sabi, only holding
on to those things that
are useful, meaningful
or beautiful! And if they
are all three in one, mores
the better.

I love the fact that your
dog came before your
fancy shoes. That speaks
volumes over the fact
that you forgot to change
them!

That's the style in Boston. As soon as the temps get above 40, all the gals start wearing flip-flops to work. On the other hand, we've been said to be one of the worst-dressed cities.

Can it really be a year since those floors went white?

what a great post! Just found your blog...loved that part of the chin hair; glad that I am not the only one:) Ah the joys of growing age gracefully!

LOL, Sherry- You KNOW how much I like real! Can't get much real-er than this post.lol I remember those days when people "set up house" and it stayed that way for at least 20 years....matter of fact I have a couple of friends like that- old school...(old being the key word there)...so...onward and upward...what are you going to do in all the spare time you will create when you are all organized?;>) xo Diana

i always feel joined when i read your stream of consciousness posts. and i see a connection between that compulsion to pare down and also feeling a strong need to get your sh*t together. that is me everyday. our surroundings need to be orderly in order to get our thoughts more orderly and feel more together. i'm working hard on it too so i'm with you!

your house looks fabulous, and i just came across your spread in a BHG back issue at the library while trolling for topics to write about!

smiles to you, tre-sher.

Thanks for the laugh...so needed it!!!!! So you are are human, welcome to MY world! Your life sounds much like my own, totally overwhelmed at times, kind of two steps forward one step back, brain is in a million different directions, sometimes even feeling like my heads going to spin off my body...lol! Yes I know that well.
Well, my dear Sharika, just know all the chaos and mind lapses were worth it...every vignette you showed is exquisite and so front page worthy! Just beautiful...hilarious about the flip flops! I am sure it made you just all the more endearing:) Rest up this weekend!

Sherry --
I hit a new old-age low this week as well! I came home from grocery shopping without my groceries. Yep. Drove off without them. But the worst part was that I drove up my driveway and got distracted by my garden and went out to deadhead roses before I even realized it. Then, with my tail between my legs, I returned to Kroger and couldn't find my buggy. Had to ask at Customer Service. Those nice people had put it in their cooler, so at least the FIVE pounds of frozen shrimp was just defrosted, but not deadly yet. Just who is running the show in my mind these days? No one, apparently!

Love reading your posts & your home is lovely. I can so relate on just about everything! The other night I came home from work & immediately took my bra off, felt like it was cutting off my circulation! About an hour later we headed over to my loan advisors home to go over some details (in the process of purchasing a new home) & just remembered I had taken my bra off & never put it back on!!.......and it was raining....need I say more? LOL

I've got you beat girlfriend....I was scheduled to pick up my girlfriend for an afternoon of shopping but when I arrived at her house we both realized that I still had on the fluffy pink socks I wear around the house. Fortunately we were going shopping so the first stop was J.C. Penneys for a pair of flip flops.....along with the stray chin hair, saggy elbow skin (no one told me about that!) age does bring some surprises. I guess the good news is we are busy enough to get distracted.....

The Vintique Object said...

Hey Sherry, in California, those flip-flops ARE dressy. I ready the caption and was thinking you showed up in rubber flip-flops from the dollar bin.

Just move here. There's no Home Goods and no Scott's to temp your addictions and you can wear your dang flip-flops to the opera if you want.

Good luck with the photo shoot! That is a huge job, staging everything for photos. I'm like you....I'm done with accessorizing in my home. I've got enough to fill a semi, most of it outside in boxes now because I'm into a more minimalist approach. Can't wait to see your images come out. You are hilarious, by the way.

Too funny Sherry, I actually did the same thing last week with my shoes. Nice dress pants, blouse, cute hair.....and the muddy grubby clogs I let the dog out in. To work! And I had to wear them around the office all day. Thank god I wasn't meeting any clients...haha!
Oh and let me know when I can stop by and take some of those pillows off your hands. I'd be more than happy to ;)
