CRAIGSLIST

I can not even tell you how excited I am.

I sold something on Craigslist.

Yup.

Only took 4 months.

But I don't give up easily.

It was my coffee table.  The really heavy sucker that has been stashed in my guest room since I got my acrylic one.  I have stumped my toe on it like a gazillion times.

I have had it for a very long time.  Below is my LR from 20 years ago.

See.  I got it at an ADAC [Atlanta Decorative Arts] sample sale from Pearce Martin.

Then about 2 years ago I painted it white and got a limestone top.

Ha Ha...same chairs just recovered.  Same sofa.....recovered.

OK...so I sold it with the glass on it because I have plans for the limestone.

I did have to reduce the price about 3 times.  We always think our "stuff" is worth more than it is.....and let's face it people.
"Craigslist stalkers" are looking for a deal.
If they wanted to pay top dollar....they would buy retail.

I got one email about it only [yep in 4 months].  It just needed the right person.

The cutest girl came to pick it up yesterday.  She loved my house.  That made me happy.......along with the sale!

Her she is in her new home.  I asked her to send me a picture.

Cute huh???  We kind of have the same style.

There is no stopping me now.  I am going to be a selling fool.

It's Monday, but I am excited for the week.  Going down to the basement to see what's next on the chopping block.

Sha Boom!

Finally...a CL seller who understands that there is little resale value in furniture....that is why I love CL! This was perfect, you got rid of it, and she loves it. It looks perfect in her home.

That looks great in her room. I would love to sell on CL, but hubby doesn't trust it since there is always something on the news where it went wrong.

Hi Sherry~ Duhhh... I got interrupted and hit send before I was done! What I said WAS- .
LOL- I'd say that table was made for her room! I have yet to attempt CL for selling anything. I have a garage full of furniture that I need to get cracking on though-

I know one of the problems is knowing where to price things. MyHero always thinks he has is worth about 10 time fair market value...lol Thanks for the nudge to me to get going this morninng~ (there now I AM done!;>) xo Diana

Too funny - 4 months - you have stamina. I need to head to my garage and see what $$$ potential I have taking up space.

Feels sooooo good to get rid of stuff.

Good luck keeping simplicity!

Alas, I get so fed up with things it's a burst of junk to the thrift store & taking a deduction.

Do you think she would be interested in a few of the some 20 pillow covers I've sewn over the last couple of years?
Can't seem to unload any of those either.

holy moly it does look perfect in her home! i love when people send me pictures of what they have bought from me in their homes! unless of course they bought a dresser and they send it to me with stuff all hanging out and the top cluttered with junk...

Good for you! So glad that you were able to find a customer for your coffee table. Looks like your table went to a lovely home too! I once had a chair for sale on Craig's List and it never sold. So, I took it to a consignment store instead. Still never sold. No wonder I didn't want it......nobody else did either! ha!

Sherry, Just as you said, it takes the right connection of product and people. That little table looks prefect in it's new place.:):) smiles, Susie

I sold something on craig not too long ago and was amazed at the scam e-mails I got. did that happen to you? congrats on your sale. see, that gal has style - a testiment to your good taste - even way back when! donna

It took me several months to sell my old dining table & chairs on craiglist. You're right it just needs the right person. I can barely see them but I think I love the curtains in your living room - silk?

The table does look great in her space!

Good for you! I'm still waiting for my first CL sale, but it's only been up for about 2 weeks...it's easy to get impatient though. I haven't reduced the price yet, but I think I might have to. Darn!

I can't wait to see what you have planned for the limestone!

Don't you love that it went to a good home? Her place was perfect for it.

I'm so lazy (and stupidly unsafe) that when I manage to list one thing on Craigslist, when the person comes over I drag them all over my house to see if they want anything else. I sold a baby swing that way, and sent her home with everything my child ever owned...for free! Just so it would get. out.

yay! and it looks perfect in her house, which is very sweet btw!

I am a lover of Craigslist myself! Congrats on sending your coffee table to a loving new home. It's so satisfying when it's being used in just the right way.

I did a massive CL giveaway when we cleaned out our basement. Just put that shizz out there for free. It was so much fun!

Her house is cute and I can see a style similar to yours. I'm going the garage sale route - too much to post on CL individually! Love your 20 year old photos, too!

Look at you go! I have sold a few things on Craigslist and it was so easy. Also feels great to get things out of my garage! xo

i have not sold on craigslist, but eBay makes me very happy (except when it doesn't because there are some unhappy rotten apples out there too). chaching!

Way to go! I sold a Pottery Barn bed...and lots of used bricks from our old patio. I gave my teen age son half the profits since I always wanted him home, in case my husband wasn't...I'm scared of strangers. I think it looks so pretty in her home. Win win.

I don't really go on but my sister in law is like a Craigs list expert, she has bought everything from a huge container of tennis balls to her baby grand through it!

I love selling on CL and i always find it so fascinating that the one piece you're DYING to get rid of (and would probably give away for free) is the exact piece that someone else is DYING to have. i love when people email me like, "i love your _____ and have to have it!" and my first thought is, "that piece of s*it???". LOL. :) I'm actually selling something today!

My hubby and I think you should have signed this post sh-shold! I bet you made your buyer's day when she got to meet you and see your home. What a cute story!

Oh, how I can relate to this post, Sherry. Sometimes CL is a real pain in the butt, but other times the item I want to get rid of sells the next day.

Glad to see that your well-loved coffee table went to a good (and cute!) home.

You sound like my hubby Sherry. He got his first Craigs List sale about a year ago and he's been hooked since. He's constantly looking around the house for things to sell. That's so nice your table found a new home and it looks great in there too.

I am a CL selling fool. I have sold everything from furniture to shoes to video games. I love to feel that cold hard cash in my hands as my ugly, unwanted cast-off leaves my house.

Makes me want to go put up a listing right now! Missi

CL is great for getting rid of "stuff"! We just sold a nightstand on there last week! The coffee table looks cute in its new home!

Woo hoo Sherry! It is better to get something for a piece that we have cherished, or else give it to a Charity Thrift Shop!

Way to go Sha boom! I need to get on and sell some stuff! you are motivating me!!!! I have a garage full of good furniture that I need to get rid of!

Susie @ Maddie G Designs said...

It is a thrill when you sell something, isn't it? I sold a ton of stuff before we moved out for our remodel and met some really cool people....a designer that was at the end of a budget, the cutest couple that drove 2.5 hours for my daughters' nursery furniture, a family that came in a minivan with no back seats....just lots of pillows strewn around. In any case, my husband finally forced me to deposit my cash....I was stashing it in a ziplock and was having too much fun counting it. Yes, I am a total dork!

lol. Sherry, Sherry you are a riot! First up, selling on CL aint no joke. Folks are willing to spend about $20 - and that's if they're feeling generous.
Second up - did you really have that rug in your living room 20 years ago? Because if ya did, then you are as fierce as it gets!

What a cute house! And yes, I think your style is similar. I have used craigs a time or two. Meet the most, ahem, interesting people that way ;)
