Slipcovers.....

Boy...3 yards of Schumacher fabric has everyone in a dither...the same dither I was in when I tried to figure out how to use it in my house.....first.  I mean after all it is about me :)  I wish I was like Oprah and had 3 yards for everyone.

Just curious...do you enter a giveaway even if it is not something that will fit in your home???  Or do you leave it for the ones who would stab their mothers to win?

I am afraid todays post will not help anyone outside the Atlanta area...sorry.  It is about slipcovers and I am going to share a great source with you at the end of this post.  STOP.....read first people.    Everyone is probably out Christmas shopping today anyway....

First, we must start with just a few pictures because let's face it you guy's will be gone faster than 50% off Christmas decor without visual stimulation.

OK...these are not slipcovers but I wanted to tell you about the different skirts you can use when recovering or slipcovering a piece of furniture.  This is called a waterfall skirt.  One of my favorites.  I think it gives a chair or sofa nice clean lines.

Another view of the same style skirt.

Here is an example of what NOT to do....

I know this is not a slipcover but look how short the skirt is....now go back up the the other picture and see how graceful and pretty it looks with a longer skirt.

You can also NOT do cording but use a french seam instead.  Se above picture of chair and ottoman...no cording.

Here are a few more pictures I lifted from Cozy Cottage Slipcovers.
She is located in Ohio.

Nice addition of the added pleat...which gives it a more casual look.

Love the ticking....

Here are just a few more images.....duh...like you can't go on Pinterest and see slipcovers until your eyes start to bleed.  But just in case you just woke up from a coma and have never seen them.......

No cording.....

I am using that style a lot now.  Just gives it a more modern look.

OK...so see the cording on this cushion????  Well I had the cushions remade without cording and this is just a little preview of the makeover that is happening at Casa Sha Sham right now!!!
Uh huh.....I should finish them up [I have 2] this weekend so you will just have to check back soon.

Also...this might be the fabric I am using....

Notice I did not actually put a specific day that they will be done.  I'm not crazy.  One little distraction can totally derail my good intentions.

*******Ok...back to slipcovers.....I have a guy who will come to your house and  do everything there....Yep...no having to take the furniture out of your home.  SERIOUS!********

He is really good.

So here is the link.  His name is Jim Brown.  770 516 0841.......Atlanta.  You will not be disappointed.  I am thinking black and white ticking for my next set.

Don't forget about that little giveaway.....

Probably pick a winner on Friday???

Off to continue spray painting......

I always wonder that about giveaways, too. I only enter when it is something I really, really would love and use! Otherwise it's just more stuff coming into my house that I'll have to find storage space for--no thank you.

Love your train-of-thought stream-of-consciousness posts.

Regarding giveaways, I only participate in giveaways for stuff I really like, otherwise I will leave it for someone else who really likes them.

But once in a while, I will enter giveaways to show my support for my blogger friends especially when they have few followers and only a few participants. If my participation makes them happy, then I will gladly do it. :) I hope that make sense.

By the way, love the waterfall slipcovers and I like your choice of fabric for the cushion.

Have a lovely weekend, Sherry!

P/S: Speaking about giveaway, I am currently hosting one as well. It's a giveaway for charm bracelet. Enter if you like.

Not local - so no luck for me, though I am looking for someone who can make them well to do a nice one out of expensive fabric for my knoll sofa in the sunroom. I whipped something quickly together before our photoshoot out of a dropcloth, but I want something made from a really beautiful linen and I don't trust my sewing skills. Can't say enough good about slips though - loved this post.

BTW - I entered your giveaway because I've bitten the bullet and decided to paint my bathroom black (above the white judges panelling) and I think that schumacher fabric is going to be AB FAB in there! Can't you see it? The green white and black - so chic!

But when I read about a giveaway I can't use - I pass on commenting. Otherwise, like heather, it's just more stuff to store.

A

Oh boy I do love slipcovers. Pretty pictures...can't wait to see your finished project...cool fabric.

To answer your question, I only enter for a giveaway if it's something I can use in my home...like the great stuff I recently won from you. Using it all or have plans to do so. Didn't enter for the 3 yards of Schumacher even though it's beautiful. Won't work for me...don't want to waste it.

Have a great day!

Look at you, trying to feed my fabric addiction ! This is me stepping away from the fabric, I'll give somebody who needs it a chance.

I am a slipcover fan but do not live in Atlanta so will have to admire the beautiful work from afar. Yes I wonder about the giveaways too, I generally will not participate if I know it wil not work for my home or isn't my taste. Love the pleated slipcover..so pretty and tailored!
What....you mean you arent' like "The O" and giving our free slipcovered chairs to everyone?!!!!!!!! LOL..have a great weekend!

Made me laugh out loud again...
i left it for the ones who would stab their mother for it...
when i start reading rules for giveaways, my eyes glaze over and i develop a learning disorder...I just think ...
"I have no idea what you just said to do to win this"...
unless it's simple like,... just say you like it in a comment...
and you're right, we are all HO's for visual stimulation...
can't wait to see your slipcovers!

I'm sorry, are you making slipcovers?? How do you know how to do that? I really really want a slipcover for my old ektorp, but I'm too cheap for the bemz. What should I be willing to pay for one? I don't know where to start looking for someone. I'm going to check out the other link you left.

I only enter giveaways for something I like or can sell on ebay. :-) That's a joke. I'm way to lazy to sell stuff on ebay, come on.

Love waterfall skirts, and I think slipcovers have come a long way. I have some on a Lee sectional in our basement that I HATE because they constantly look sloppy. However, I think the tight-fitting ones are lovely.

I don't usually enter giveaways unless I LOVE something. Because, otherwise I could easily become a hoarder. I adore that green fabric in your giveaway. Both fingers crossed!

Can't wait to see your slips!

You are pretty funny, glad I have you on my sidebar. I don't enter giveaways unless I want it and can use it. I am thinking most think the same way...but who knows!! I was going to kill myself cuz my slipcover might not have had the right skirt that I made...but then you showed a white chair and ottoman and it is that style...so I was saved from the brink of self destruction. By the way, I washed them today and put them all back on, and they smell so good and look so clean~slips are the best.

Hi Sherry...It wouldn't
let me leave a comment earlier. I love this slipcover post...that is amazing to think you could have slipcovers made on the spot! I have already been a VERY lucky winner on your blog!!!

I am SURE that I am a better person for not entering the giveaway until I had a project for the fabric--right? heehee. I actually did wait until i could think of something short of redoing my house but I bet other chics want it more than me.

Well...As much as I love the fabric and all of the goodies...I AM letting someone that would push their mother out of the way vie for it. Wanna see your progress!!

Thanks for the illustrated tutorial. Very helpful. I do not enter a giveaway unless it fits my style. I would rather let someone have it who would kill for it. Not that I don't appreciate your generosity.
Best...Victoria

Thank you for all of the fabulous hints on slipcovering Sherry. I receive your posts via email and will definitely save this one. We just bought a Pottery Barn slipcovered sofa and love it.

I had to smile when I saw the LV trunk in the picture. I have a very similar trunk in our living room between two wing chairs.

Love slipcovers and thankful for the day I learned to sew when I was a kid so I make my own....cording sorry I'm old school I guess.

I do pass up on giveaways because usually they don't go with my home so please leave me out but great chances for someone else.

Enjoy your Sunday and can't wait to see your bl&wh covers!

The picture of the chair and ottoman with the pleats is one of my all time fav looks and has been in my file for years.I have considered slips but have not moved on it. It is almost as much as having it reupholstered here. If I had a good source that did not cost too much I might go ahead and get my blue and white ticking sofa!! As far as the giveaway I have to like/want it to enter!! I loooove the green and white fabric and it just might be the start of something new in my living room if I were to win!! xo Kathysue

Love this post, Sherry! I've been contemplating slipcovers and wingback chairs for the past few months.

This is slightly off-topic, but I'm wondering if you've used wingback chairs for host/hostess chairs? Do you know of any way to beef up a chair cushion so that the chair wouldn't sit so low at the table?

When you give your referrals out, I always wish you lived in Philadelphia so I could put your referrals to use. Do you have any good plugs for friends in the Philly area?? :) We just learned about the types of skirting techniques in my class last week - the waterfall was a favorite of mine but I also love that box pleat on the one chair too - that is really pretty. And there are times I know some of your giveaway items probably wouldn't fit in my home now, but I figure I'll just store them away for our next house and use them there or just get creative here. Hope you had a good weekend!

Great, informative post! Does anyone know where to find the botanical artwork in the first image? I love them to pieces but can't find them, and it's driving me nuts! I've also seen them in Erika Powell's work. Thanks!

I like that little ottoman/stool! Can't wait to see it finished! And I never noticed the short skirts...they do look funny. Happy Monday!

Wow, I cant believe you found a guy that will come to your home. Really, that is smart of the guy. No over head, but maintenance and gas to the truck. wish there was someone like that near me.
