Overwhelmed!!!

Man, I have had so much going on the last 10 days!!!  About a month ago I decided to demo a small guest bath.  I really did not have a plan [I don't advise this.....] but I thought that if I started it, then that would force me to proceed.  HA!  It seems that I have the ability to help others make decisions...but when it comes to me, I am FROZEN.  I couldn't decide on the tile, if I wanted change the layout, or even the paint color!  That is just ridiculous!!!  Anyway, at the same time I  had plans to remove the wall to wall seagrass we installed when we did out renovation 17 years ago!!!  AND install hardwoods.  I have to tell you that  seagrass is a work horse......it had started to look bad about 3 years ago.    I had this vision that I wanted really pale floors.  So...the decision  to play around with the layout of the bath was pretty much eliminated when my dog got "twisted stomach" and the bill was 5000.00.  Shock!  OK...back to square one with the bath.  I made 2 minor adjustments....took 8 inches of my linen closet to help enlarge the shower and moved the toilet over 12 inches.  I have before and will soon have after pictures so stay tuned.  The floors...well I had to take EVERYTHING out of my closet, and all the furniture out of the room.  My house looks like a war zone right now.  We laid 4" white oak and then I mixed 1/2 white paint and 1/2 water.  They brushed it on and whipped it off.  I love the way they look now.  I will post pictures soon.....
So meanwhile enjoy these beachy rooms......
The start of summer.....and that always wants me to paint everything white, [not that I don't already!]

CB2.....It's coming!

We are so lucky in Atlanta.  We have the largest Pottery Barn in the United States, IKEA, West Elm, DWR, Crate and Barrel, Ballard's Design Outlet, and soon CB2.  I am sure you have heard of CB2...they are the younger, hipper version of Crate and Barrel.  I am pretty traditional at heart, but occasionally I like to throw something slightly modern in a room.  It keeps it from looking so predictable.   Same with adding a rustic piece in a contemporary setting.  The most interesting rooms will keep you guessing, pushing the boundary on the style of a room.
Here are just a few pictures of throwing in that modern element to add a spark of interest to a room.  In the last picture, the green floor lamps are from CB2!!!  Love them!

Bad Blogger!!!!

Yes...it has been a while since I did a post!  I know, I know......the best intentions.....But I was out of town.  Way before I got into the design business, I was a Flight Attendant for Eastern Airlines.  Eastern has been gone since 1991, but I flew for them for 20 years....oh yea...you read that right!

I am posting a picture of me from 1972 during my first year of flying.  I am standing in front of Savannah Airport.  AND...yes that is the uniform....and yes...those are HOT PANTS!!  I was 22 years old and living in San Juan at the time.  So, I just got back from a Flight Attendant reunion in Washington D C.  It has been 20 years since I have seen any of these people.  Many of them have continued their flying career after the demise of Eastern, getting on with American, US Air, and United.  I had such a good time seeing everyone, but I am glad that I took the path that I did.  I loved being a Flight Attendant, but times have changed and flying is not easy anymore.

Showhouse

Yesterday I went to the Atlanta Decorators Showhouse.  I can remember going to my first Showhouse when I  moved to Atlanta in 1989, and I have never missed a year.  It is awesome to see so many beautifully decorated rooms in one place.  I noticed lots of texture, muted colors, industrial elements, acrylic pieces, incredible light fixtures....the list goes on.  It was the home of Arthur and Stephanie Blank [Home Depot] and the gardens were spectacular!  My favorite rooms were the Kitchen/Family Room [Jimmy Stanton and Matthew Quill of Design Galleria], the Eat In area off the kitchen [Meg Adams], Dining Room [Shon Parker], Sun Porch [Melanie Turner], Cabana [Womack Interiors], Young Ladies Bedroom [McLaurin Interiors].  I wish I could have taken pictures.  If you haven't gone to one, I highly recommend it, the last day is Mothers Day [May 9th].  I believe this is picture  from the Christmas Showhouse that Jimmy Stanton did.
Today...off to Scott's Antique Market!  Yep....one of my favorite things to do.  I am shopping for a client, and hopefully I can stay focused on her instead of ME!

I'm Back!

How come when I am working out time drags and when I am on vacation it is over in a flash!  We had great weather, I read 2 books [a luxury}, worked out 5 of the 7 days, and relaxed myself into a coma state!
But...back to work!  Since I am in the middle of some projects right now, I thought I would post some pictures of a bath that I did last year.  We started out by ordering the wallpaper......and then it turned into a full blown remodel!  The vanity was way too low....after removing.....we then had to pull up the tile.   Those words "well, while we are at it" took on a whole new meaning!  How could we possibly put up the beautiful wallpaper and expect a miracle.  As I say...that would be like putting lipstick on a pig.  It was recently featured in Better Homes and Gardens "Kitchen and Bath Remodel".  Here are some before and after pictures.
