Since I am deep into "One Room Challenge land" thinking about other post isn't so easy.....
I am so focused....think dog with a bone... that a quick slap is needed to bring me out of that trance:)
I can definitely think of a few volunteers:)

Anyway I thought I would discuss a trend that might be happening. Now you guys know that I love a white house! Meaning that when I finally decided on the white shade for my house [Benjamin Moore China White] the angels started singing.....cause it was a struggle.
But.....I am so digging this old red brick look with black trim!
Thoughts? I mean yes this is really cool old brick and looking very vintage....but here are some other inspiration images
Our first instinct would be to paint brick and I am a serious fan of that look!
Below at first glance....just your basic red brick but the dark trim really changes things....
I mean those red brick houses used in the 50's and 60's could definitely take on a more modern look with dark trim!

To me this looks really updated!
Of course we all don't have red brick that looks this good....
What are your thoughts on this trend?
sourceHere are a few dark trim colors....that can help spur the job forward if you are deciding to do this!
I researched this on Pinterest.....and really could not find the sources so if one of these happen to be your home....please share with us your inspiration!
Happy Saturday guys!

Love this combination! Makes my heart beat a little faster just looking at them.
Beautiful homes but alas, brick is not used in Southern California. Earthquake make a real mess of them.....;)
I agree I love this look, But there are no brick homes in California.. It's actually rare to see them because of earthquake building codes. I think this dark trim look fantastic with these brick homes.. Totally fresh. White houses have only begun to be popular in California. We are definitely behind on house trends.
I am in the final stages of my remodel and the trim is all black- black roof, gutters, eaves and the downspouts, etc. It looks better than I thought and now I am looking for a white that is not too stark, nor too warm. The house will be stuccoed than painted. Garage door will be black. Front door will be a color. I have to check out that white you mentioned! There are so many white and then there is the interior white. It's tough! Wishing you a great weekend. x Kim
I do love painted brick, however, I’m definitely in for this look! The black windows are what does it for me, and of course the real “old” bricks. I live in the Los Angeles area and though brick houses are rare, there is a gorgeous one 3 blocks from me that I’d love to get my hands on. There are also some great old brick mansions in the Hancock Park area and in older neighborhood too. I’ve always loved white houses and am thinking of painting mine white and doing black windows.
The black trim is more current and looks very elegant. I would rather look at a chic cocktail dress than a boring white wedding dress.Just my thoughts.
Tons of brick in our Chicago area and not much of it’s painted. While I like the look I can think of more then one bricklayer that would have a fit at the thought of such a thing!
luckily I found this shared blog, I planned to build a house, and was happy to find the right design
Very Attractive Article and very awesome.

This is so inspiring! I DO have a brick house, and while I would love to paint it (white or black or even very dark blue) my husband reminds me of the the cost to have the whole house painted, and the work involved in keeping it up. We live in Michigan and have brutal winters which often leave painted brick houses peeling and looking terrible. Right now our home is pretty much maintenance free and we really didn’t want to trade that for all the upkeep of painted brick. I do have my front door painted black with gold house numbers which looks very cool and I handmade black and white striped awnings for my front door and large front window, so it does have some character. But I had.not thought about black trim! This could be the fresh update I need without painting my whole house! Thanks for sharing! Love your work!
I like the dark trim with the brick, or, even with certain colored stone. We had to choose colors for the little stone cottage we
are restoring. The house has a Tudor flavor so a lot of brown which is not my favorite but we were able to use a very dark bronze
on the addition and it works well with existing siding and new lighter shingles.
I actually would love to have a dark color on the main body of a home with clean white trim.
I really love the look on a more industrial looking brick structure but am not yet warming up to the look on an older home. Great examples! Can't wait to see your what you have for the one room challenge!
We purchased a 1930 English Cottage style home 6 months ago. The house is terracotta brick, I'm planning flat black for the trim, garage (all wood shake). Our windows are metal so I've been stripping them and painting them black as well, then painting the handles brushed gold. I'm thinking of maybe a color on the double front doors; possibly a Kelly green or white with brass kick plates. Had no idea I was being trendy! Just working with what we inherited.

I have a red brick home in frisco Texas built in 2000. Our hoa would not let us go black, but used a bronze tone gutters, paint , and facia. The transformation is terrific, also has a cast stone front. Now we need to start over on the landscaping. Any updated ideas for landscaping? Very timely blog. Thank you
We have a pink brink front with yellow siding around. The gutters and fascia, etc are all creamy yellow to match the siding, but I am really jonesing to do dark brown trim to match the brown shingled roof. I don't know if I can paint the current trim though because it is all aluminum. :( The house is 30 years old and definitely needs a modern spin to give it some curb appeal! Anyway, these are good inspiration pix that I am going to show my husband and see if it nudges him to the "dark side"...hehehe. Thanks for the post!
I have a 1931 Tudor, in California. Brick on ground level, wood siding and nice thick stucco, too, for the turret. Copper accents above and below bay window on second floor. I will be repainting soon. I am going around and around about using black on the steel windows which have divided lights. No Tudor timbers on this house. We are reroofing the turret in copper. The rest of the roof has cedar shingles.
I am thinking of medium tan for a body-color (second floor) and a sand color for the wooden window trim and the 'stonework' around the lower windows, (with the red brick walls). Or reversing the darker to the window frames...
Current window panes are dark red, house body is a soft peach color and a darker color of same for trim. The lighter shade is used on the 'stonework'. Current colors are a little too 'pretty' for such a large home. But the dark red for window panes is fine.
But the black is so tempting!
I do not think your analogy involving giving a dog with a bone a quick slap is appropriate. I think you could have made your little joke without making light of animal abuse.
I need advice on a house with red brick on the bottom half and light gray siding on the upper half. There are very dark charcoal black shutters, front door and garage doors. It looks hideous but I have a personal aversion to gray. The light gray siding on the top half is throwing me. What would you advise please?
I too am looking for some advice. We just updated our stone to a greige colour. We are looking to paint our bricks to a deeper red/wine colour rather than the orange now. I have a black front door and garage doors. When I put black beside the brick, it seems a little stark. Do you think I should go with a lighter red brick?
I too am wanting to clad our new construction with white brick black windows and doors. However, white has at least 6months delivery. Bummer! But I happened upon an old red brick church being remodeled and used for a venue. It has black windows, doors, shutters etc ... So nice! Would you call the red brick black trim more victorian or English or ???
Victorian or "English" - Tudor? would depend on the architecture. Many Victorians are made of wood. They are generally ornate. Black trim with brick can be used anytime there is brick.
Our 1960s red brick apartment building is being painted currently. It will have black window frames. I'm not a fan of the look. Prefer a higher contrast colour. Black and dark red seems too heavy and looks weird when internal windows frames are already painted white.
They look good 👏
We have a red brick 1948 bungalow and would love to paint all the white trim, gutters, down spouts etc either a dark blue, dark grey or black. My problem is our windows have white grids in them. Would that look weird? I would love your thoughts. Would I be able to send you a photo of our house so you can give us some suggestions? Thank you!!
