OK.....drumroll please....the winner of $100 to HomeGoods and Lewis & Sheron Fabrics is
Carol Wilson
How appropriate as Carol has a great Etsy site where she sells beautiful pillows! You can bet she is going to get some great fabrics and make eye candy right away:)
For those who didn't win I know how you feel....I have never won a giveaway. I know what it is like to walk around all day with your lower lip sticking out.....
The other day I was reading Flower magazine and ran across an article about Rachel Ashwell. I doubt there is anyone who does not remember how she burst on the scene with her "shabby Chic" California look. She made it OK to paint all the walls and furniture white.
Rachel opened her first store in Santa Monica in 1989 [crikey 25 years ago!] and wrote 8 books.
She was known for faded florals....white slipcovers and romantic look.
In 2008 during the bad economy she closed her stores.....but she is still going strong with a Bed and Breakfast called The Prairie a 46 acre property located between Austin and Houston.
She still looks hot right?
It is available for weddings, conferences and retreats.
Here are a few images of The Prairie.
She decided to keep the original wallpaper and I for one think it works!
This is her own bedroom...love the blush silk curtains. And I kinda like that there are less accessories......
I can still get into the look.....although I lean towards a little more modern in my shabby chic.
I tried to find some examples....
There isn't much modern in this one but the accessories are kept to a minimum.
I also love using large impactful accessories....
Again....accessories kept to a few and mostly monochromatic.
Skona Hem
In a white room....some black [in the vintage picture] helps to ground the space. It is such a statement focal point and keeps it from being too predictable.
I love that the ceiling is painted high gloss as that adds a more modern look to this space.
Another example of modern country by Jimmy Stanton. Instead of all white he used a darker more moody color but I love the vintage picture over the mantel and that mustard throw.
Again most of this room is casual shabby but the fireplace is modern.
Yikes....I went from shabby chic to modern country. That is how my brain wanders.....
I think if there is a lot of pattern in the room by way of fabrics then you need less accessories....just my opinion for what it's worth.
I could ramble on and on about this look.....but y'all have things to do.
**I tried to find credit for the images....most of them came from BH&G website.
Reminder....4 more days until Netflix returns with the last 6 episodes of The Killing!

Congratulations to Carol! Love Rachel, and her work. I did not know she has a B&B in Texas. We are there quite often since our youngest is in school there. Looks like a beautiful venue.
Wonderful giveaway and congratulations to the lucky winner! I still love Rachel and her true to self style its lovely and she is as well!
Congratulations to Carol! I love her blog and shop. :) I like the more modern elements in the shabby chic rooms. That huge clock is awesome. I'll have to check out The Killing; love some good TV!
Cheers to you Carol! And I'm counting down the days until The Killing is back!
I just got back yesterday from a weekend at The Prairie! It was wonderful - really beautiful and relaxing.
Luvly inspirational photos.Luv the huge clock!!
Anticipating the new season of The Killings!!
I'm a huge fan of shabby chic when it's done right (not over the top) and I love white rooms and white slipcovers. It was fun to see your take on this style. I agree that you need dark floors or some dark accessories for contrast in an all white space.
i had my wedding there (ahem, 12 years ago!) before rachel purchased the place. it is so quaint and i would highly recommend it for anyone want to stay in round top for the antique show!
Can I just tell you I NEVER win anything, so this is AMAZING! Thank you Sherry, Lewis & Sheron Textiles, and Homegoods! I mean really, this is over the top for me and I sooooo appreciate it. I am actually going to buy fabric for me for a change!! Thanks again. xx
Nice home interior designing and interior furnishing..
Congrats to Carol! Drooling over that huge clock in one of the pictures....want.it.badly! Was so excited last week when I received an email from Netflix informing me of the new season of The Killing.....cannot wait!
I JUST got hooked on the killing...it's so so so good! Holder is my favorite!
Have you watched the Bridge? It's a lot like the Killing and just as addicting.
I still love Rachel and her style. I can't wait for the new season of The Killing! I thought I was the only one who watched that show ;)
While Rachel Ashwell was doing shabby chic and making millions, i was doing shabby chic, just divorced, raising dysfunctional kids, working full time and ready to shoot myself in the face. Seriously, my sister called me one day on the phone, and she said "there's this lady, and she's famous and she decorates just like you do..." Rachel's smart, and I love her look of course since i invented it too... smile. I especially love your updated version shabby chic photos. Those rooms are gorgeous!

Love the more spare look. She does still pull it off. I agree about the paper...wouldn't want it in my own house but it works there!!
Congratulations Carol! I just discovered your beautiful blog and of course, I had to miss the awesome giveaway! I definitely have a teeensy bit of shabby chic in my decor with some masculine and warm woods. Can you imagine having a wedding at The Prairie? Must be breathtakingly beautiful... xx
