ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 5

Annnnnnddddd......here we are week 5.  The ORC.  Surely I don't have to splain but just in case..... you can check out where I started if you go here.

20 of us roped in by our slave driver fearless leader Linda from My Crafty Life to makeover a room.  Now I will tell you that some of these talented people are actually doing construction.....uh huh.

Lord......I can't even decide what to hang on my walls much less make timely decisions about construction.

Never mind them....it is all about me today.

Last Sunday I spent the day with paper.

Let me explain.

Yes that would be craft paper.  Some dang curly stuff I might add. I was trying to be all professional and cut out my frame size cause I have 11 pictures to hang into plaster walls.  And plaster don't play.

You have got to get it right the first time.  I tried everything to straighten those suckers out and finally I got out the iron.

Success.

So this is what I came up with.

I am hanging these.....that were in my entry.

Of course I did not get them hung yet....BUT WAIT.....hold on....
I did get my curtains up.

I just used ready mades....I can be cheap like that with myself.  Of course now I can't decide whether to add the greek trim or not.  It is a small room and I am afraid it might too much.

I kind of started playing around with accessories.  Nothing permanent until I have to actually take the final pictures and post the reveal.

I need to shine up my brass lamp.  And I might try a cream shade.

I also need to decide on which light fixture I am going to hang....I have 4 to choose from.  Whoa now...simmer down.

None are new.  The original one from the show house [which I might put in my foyer], the one that is hanging in my foyer now, a pretty crystal one that I found [while walking my dogs in someones trash] or just keep what is there.

Help me.

So....here is where we stand:

hang pictures
decide on light
hang mirror over chest
knobs/pulls on chest
rug decision
accessorize [the hard part right?]

Is that enough?  Get all of that done before Sunday, photograph and write the post.

Why you ask???

Well I am going on my first vacation in 7 years.  Something about a little real estate purchase in 2006 that put the halt on luxurious trips.

Now before you go all "what the hell do you mean...you go to Florida all the time".....Y'all don't make me punch you.  When I go down to the condo there is always something to do.  Wash all the bedding, organize the kitchen, go to Target and replace all the broken crap.....and the list goes on.

Plus I still gotta cook, walk and feed the dogs...yada....yada....yada.

On this one I don't gotta do nuthin.  Details later.

It all looks so soft and welcoming, Sherry. I LOVE the white painted floors. Can't wait to see all those details come together….that is your THING! And then you can go on vacation and not think about it at all!

Looking good. Where is the fixture that is hanging from? I love it!

It looks so good!! I want to sleep there!

i love the hanging fixture that is already in there! and i LOVE the curtains as they are- no trim is my vote! they feel more relaxed without it.

It is ALL looking quite lovely!

looks great my friend. And greek trim is never too much. never. period. I abhor plaster. It's my nemesis and does not jive with my wing when you hang it self.

Beth Connolly said...

It is looking great. I say go for the Greek key trim, but I am a Greek key addict.

Sher - dont polish up the lamp or change the shade, LITERALLY its perfect the way it is! i love the 'patina' on it and the black shade add the perfect amount of Celerie Kimble black to this room to punctuate it. I LOVE IT. love. and i am loving how soft those curtains lay!

So pretty and inviting! I actually like the lamp the way it is also!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Do you have a professional electrician on staff???! All of those choices for lighting, but who moves them around? You deserve a fab vacation, can't wait to hear about "Shagetouttadodge!"

You are so close sister, you can do it. Vacation is the perfect motivator. And I've got those same plaster walls - they give me such anxiety when hanging anything.

Things look beautifully understated - no need for greek trim on the curtains, and I think the darker shade on the bedside lamp adds depth and ties in with the throw on the bed. Keep those elements as is!

You crack me up, styling it already, you can't help yourself, huh?! It's looking so charming! I'd leave the black shade and the drapes without trim.

It looks awesome- I cant believe you have more to do in there!
Enjoy your vacation and doing nothing all week long!

No greek key--I think it will be too busy (and I LOVE trim.) Love the existing fixture, though crystal sounds good too....

A Perfect Gray said...

you are under orders NOT to polish the brass lamp. the aged patina is so much better. promise me? also, you prob didn't ask for advice but I'd say something sparkly for overhead light since you have the rough texture in the headboard, etc.

oh, this is too good: here I am giving an actual DESIGNER advice. whats up with that?

Love this room so far! I think you should hang the show house light in your foyer so you can see it more! I like the light you have hanging now. Gorgeous lady!

Those pictures will be so pretty there...love that brass lamp and the hanging fixture. You have the best taste.
It feels like it has great texture. Wish I was going on vacation!

I am loving this room. Don't polish the lamp and love the panels as is. FYI - I read your blog not only for the wonderful designs, but also to see what your signature is gonna be!

I want to go on a vacation. I love this room, and staying in it would feel like a vacation to me. Good luck hanging those pictures.

I think the room looks great even if you do nothing else. Lucky. :)

Love it all, I agree about the Greek Key trim too much in that little corner, You are so good. I don't remember the other lighting, but I like the idea of some sparkle since the headboard is a rough texture! Of course you will pick the absolutely perfect one, you always do!!

BTW: From one pillow addict to another come over to my blog today. I have a giveaway going on!! Woo Hoo!

Amazing!!! No Greek key and keep the black shade. Love it all!!!

It already looks amazing! LOVE the lamp and I think I like the black shade - but let's see what cream would look like. Can't wait to see what you decide on for the light fixture- that always takes me forever to decide!

Jade @ Flip Flops + Pearls Design said...

I say keep the existing light fixture! It's unique and is totally at home in the space. And, go for the Greek trim!

Love your look so far! You've inspired me to update the curtains in my room to that white and rope tie!

I'm totally digging your brass lamp! You have to show us some pics of your fixtures. Do you get the keep the stuff you install in a show house? Ive always wondered?

I really want to curl up in that bed. It just looks so cozy and inviting. Good quality to have in a guest room.
Can you pack me in your suitcase? I need a vacation too.

Looks beautiful and I can't wait to sleep there (hint, hint)! My vote is for the crystal lighting. I love a room with a little bling! But whatever you select will be fantastic. Miss you!

I agree with anyone who said GREEK TRIM FOR SURE - and definitly keep the lamp AS IS - it is contrast to the drape and the patina is perfect!

The styling is pretty Sherry...don't change a thing. Whole room is looking so warm and inviting.

Hanging all those beautiful botanicals is SO hard...that would kill me. Good for you for doing it the right way.

This looks fantastic. You have to be proud. Don't think I'd have the energy for it. I like the black shade, just sayin. And the rug. Why replace it?

Looks beautiful, Sherry! I look forward to seeing the completed room.

I would add the trim. But I would LOVE to see photos of the other lights! I do love the one hanging there though! Enjoy your vacation.....sigh. I so need one too!

It's so pretty already! My vote: no Greek Key and leave the brass alone. You'll have a fantastic trip and come back and have the room all finished the beauteous. How great is that?!

LiveLaughDecorate said...

Lol. You were about to punch me for sure because I was just about to say "I know this heffer goes to Florida all the time!" But yes, this sounds like a for real vacay now missy so prepare yoself. Anywho, room is looking so demure and cozy. Can't wait for the finale. Love that rope tie-back. I say forget adding the greek key trim. I also love that black lamp shade. Lots of other neutrals going on so I think it adds a punch. But what do I know? I'm just a girl who lives in Miami. Lol.

Now that I've simmered down, I can't wait to see which light you choose. I'm digging the headboard, the lamp and pillows. Your posts always make me laugh out loud. I make sure I'm not eating or drinking while reading them, for fear I will spit something out on my screen!
