ONE ROOM CHALLENGE FALL 2016 WEEK FOUR

Jumping right in to week 4..... because as I have learned in life..... time keeps marching on and there is nothing you can do to slow it down.

One Week Challenge |verb| associated with stress, craziness, decisions, angst, tics, occasional tears, frustration, joy, excitement, thrill, pleasure, delight.......sigh.

I am pretty sure all the other peeps are having those same highs and lows:)

That is a bunch of talent right there and all of them have the same 6 weeks to finish a room.  50% of them are probably already finished and the rest of them are like me....lagging behind in frustration praying that everything aligns for a photo finish!

I wonder if Linda can pick the overachievers and the ones who just are posting with wet paint:)

I am happy to say it was a fairly successful week....let's recap.

The painters came and started caulking the ceiling and new Metrie trim!  Meanwhile I went to the paint store to get the paint and that's when things went wonky.  Since Farrow and Ball  is a ORC sponsor I really wanted to use their paints but there just wanted a good color......whaaaa.

I was hell bent on SW Urbane Bronze and I don't know what happened but I ended up with BM Iron Mountain.  Needless to say at the paint store I think they clapped when I finally left after asking everyone who walked in which color they liked best:)  It was between BM Dragons Breath and  Iron Mountain.

I
Love
It.

No really.....I Love It.

One of our sponsors is ATG Stores Home Furnishings.  I guess I live in a cave but I was not familiar with them!  Whoa Mama they have everything.

I ordered these 2 lamps for my room.....

This Jamie Young Steam Punk table lamp and below this Arteriors floor lamp....
Yep quite the mix right:)  You never want your room to be predictable.....ha ha no chance of that!

I took a trip down to The Mart here in Atlanta to search for a few items for a client "wink wink" and stumbled across this Lee Industries chair that I thought would be perfect for my bedroom.

I needed height and at the time I was leaving my bedroom white.

Sample sale!  I hauled that puppy home and then realized it was a very dark midnight navy.

WHAT?  No can do boo boo.  Crikey.

And again my friend Sudi came to the rescue like a "caped super hero".....

And gave me this pretty linen stripe fabric of which there was only 7 yards.  The chair takes 8.  I told my upholster "don't call me unless this chair is done"  I don't want to hear "can't" I want to hear "YES".

Picking it up today:)

Also picking up these bird prints today.....

Stay tuned to see which frame I selected!

One little problem arose when the plumber came to install the new Kohler Purist sink faucets.  I was out in the kitchen humming some Snoop Dog rap thinking "life is good"......and he came strolling out with the news......cue "horror film music"  "Miss Sherry the faucet won't fit in the holes [specifically the handles].

WTH?  No.  Get back in there and make it work.
Sadly..... he would not do it.  So I called Michael Ladisic [the magician] like he had nothing to do but answer my questions [after I called Kohler AND Build.com].

Michael sent over one of his project managers to take a look.....and damn if he wasn't MacGyver.

He taped it up because porcelain cracks very easily....which is why the plumbers wouldn't do it.

They don't make these sinks any more!

He slowly drilled it [ 2 sinks....all 4 holes] until each one fit!  Like I said earlier.....life is good.

Things are moving along but I'm still waiting for everything I ordered.....kinda getting that nervous "tic" I was talking about earlier.

Until next Wednesday.....

See if anyone else had problems this week:)

PAINT COLORS FOR HOUSE BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN OF THE YEAR

OK.....back to the KOTY.  Farrow and Ball was one of the sponsors for the House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year.

Of course I had no problem picking colors because we all know how beautiful their range is.

Most paints start with a translucent base and add pigment.  Farrow and Ball add a higher level of pigment which produces their depth of color....another reason that it's hard to color match with another company.

Let's start with Pavillion Gray....it's definitely a true gray similar to SW Repose Gray.  No green or blue undertones.

Oval Room Blue is an incredible color.....After it went up I was in love with it's rich hue.

Dining room in the KOTY

Down Pipe is a dark gray with blue in it.....think industrial.

Farrow and Ball's All White is crisp and clean.....a true white.  Below it is paired with Farrow and Ball Dovetail.  Beautiful!

I kind of feel like I am the last person to discover Cornforth White and everyone is snickering.  It's lighter that Pavillion Gray but again....a true gray.

Go here for a whole post written on this color with ton's of pictures.....
I met so many people that week but just fell in love with Sean Sullivan who is the Group Marketing Director and associate publisher of House Beautiful.

Sean is hilarious and writes a food blog called Spectacularly DeliciousPeople who know me are aware that I don't cook but I am all about pretty pictures of food and I like to eat food so 2 out of 3 isn't bad:)

I can't wait until October and the issue comes out!

I hope you guys are having a fantastic week....it's only June and already "Guam Hot" here in Atlanta.

HOUSE BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN OF THE YEAR 2016

Last weekend was the reveal of the HB Kitchen Of The Year.  The incredibly talented Matthew Quinn designed a kitchen that dreams are made of.

I'm not kidding....and to even think that I was involved at all is totally humbling.  I owe this honor to Michael and Matthew who pushed for my participation....love you both so much!

I don't even know where to start....the install, the last minute craziness....the party with a late night dinner.....2 days of meeting so many hardworking people who helped pull it off....it was an experience that won't be forgotten.

I had to show you this first.....cause it made me all giddy inside:)

Here are some of the awesome images from HB Instagram.  Shot by Emily Followill and styled by the adorable Ginny Branch

Let's start with the high gloss ceiling in FB Oval Room Blue.  Kapow! The light fixtures are from Hudson Valley....that Lewis Chandelier is my new favorite!
The custom banquet was constructed by Bjork Studio.  Custom table by Grothouse Lumber and chairs are from Kate Spade

The trim color and walls are FB Cornforth White

 The beautiful pantry doors....
This awesome tile from AKDO in Matthews signature color used with stainless steel racks from the Container  Store......
The faucet is by Grohe and you can turn it on by putting your foot under the toe kick of the cabinets! Custom Pulls are from the Matthew Quinn Collection.  The countertops are by Caesarstone  . I have been trying to decide about some new countertops and I love this one....honed Statuario Nuvo.

What about this tile used in the bar area from AKDO hot off the press and used for the first time!  Hubba Hubba:)

Love this small niche in the bar with this gorgeous pottery from Dixon Rye a new home store in Atlanta.

There is more to share but I'll leave it here for now.  Look for the spread in the October issue of House Beautiful.

I haven't even had time to breath after finishing up the ORC on Monday....editing the pictures and writing the post, then right to installing the HB project Tuesday thru Friday.

Whew.....

This girl is tired!  One of the best things is there was NO humidity this weekend so I had some great hair days.  #itsthelittlethings

Back to work now.....

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 2

So a week has passed.....and it's time to share my inspiration for Nancy's family room.  Like I said...."pine city" needed to be shut down.

When I don't have a lot of money on a project I try to stay neutral....oh who am I kidding I like to stay neutral all the time.

Believe me I tried to bring some color in this one but you will see how I digressed back to one of my favorite plans.....black/camel/white/cream/gray.

This window scene from Club Monaco started the whole shebang.  It truly was my inspiration.

Even though her budget was small I wanted to get her some new furniture.  What she had was 20 years old and really not worth recovering......cause I would have done it!

Step one was a floor plan.

Here is the problem.  The fireplace is centered in the room but not really centered in the living area. Crap.  I really wanted to relocate the TV over the mantel but dang....there is not enough room.

Here is a reminder.

And you can see that there is a chair in the middle of nowhere...for extra seating but that is really not working right?

So I decided to keep it where it was and paint the bookshelves dark so it kind of blends in.

SW Urbane Bronze.

And surprise....I chose SW Alabaster for the walls.  Lucky for me Lowe's is one of the ORC sponsors so I got my paint there!

Now on to the furniture.

Sofa:  Lee Industries 3063-32
I wanted to bring a modern touch to the upholstery.
2 Chairs: 1011-01 swivel  To help with TV watching.

Fabric selection....I got it in my head that I was going to wallpaper the small dining area in this Farrow and Ball Wallpaper since they are one of our sponsors.

So these were my first selections.  Sofa the top fabric and chairs in the bottom.
But that was a quick moment because I saw this black pinstripe and went all crazy and chose it! [the green fabric was inspiration for a green plant like my inspiration photo]!

And then I found out that this FB wallpaper was not an option and I got really sad.  So so sad.

I'll figure something out.....meanwhile here is some inspiration for my space.

A gallery wall behind the sofa.

And a whole bunch of black and white goodness....

Since we removed the window seat.....I can move the whole furniture arrangement down some.  This allows more room for the barstools.

Just to remind you where the window seat was....no one ever used it!

These barstools also need to be addressed.....I would try to change with paint and fabric but I hate the backs and that crackle finish is hard to cover with paint.

Fabrics?  Yeah still have not zeroed in on that little task.....but I have aways been about the "photo finish"!

This is where we are now....

Please go and see what all of my other partners have been up to this week!

And don't forget to check out Calling It Home on Thursdays for the linking participants!

Next week I will have some more updates including those floors and hopefully I will have some thoughts on my fabric selection!
