FABRICS

And......we made it to Friday.

Hallelujah.

As a designer...and guys tell me if this is true with you also.....you tend to spend way more time than you can actually bill thinking of ways to perfect a project.  I mean I can't really send a client an invoice the size of the national debt just because I couldn't turn it off:)

Kind of like an artist who works on a canvas who layers on the color until it is perfect.

For those of you with obsessive personalities who bleed design....your client thanks you!

I say this because I have been searching and searching to get the fabrics right for this huge project.

This is a large room....

With really high ceilings.....so it has to be warmed up with lots of texture.  The kitchen is opposite this area.

Add 2 windows that need 35 yards [yes you read that right] of fabric!

In my opinion just using a solid linen would look flat especially when you are talking about the length of the panel at about 135" so I looked for something with a raised pattern that still read neutral.  That will help give them a little depth.

Whew...tall order....hee haw....designer joke.

And you already know that these are the colors of the cabinets.

Here are some of the fabrics that I am playing around with.  There are actually 2 sitting areas in this darn space.  One facing the kitchen and the other around the fireplace and TV [located to the right of the FP].

More playing....

Trims that could possibly go on various pillows and upholstery.

Yeah....are you getting dizzy with selections?

I want to punch myself in the face.

Finally we decided on the 2 sofa's and chaise which were ordered this week.

That my friends is how you can get yourself so wound up over a project that your eyes spring open at 4:00 AM.....

Help me.

Ooh I see a couple of fabric that have been in my office before! I love the whole feel and the mix of textures and prints, that linen is fabulous it has enough pop to avoid boring yet still serene since you need so darn much of it! THose are some huge windows my friend, the clients are very good hands!

I can SO relate! My eyes have popped open at 4:23am on the dot, every single day this week. If only we could bill for those "planning sessions," we'd be bazillionaires! At least you have pretty options to keep your mind occupied. Enjoy your weekend!

Sherry, you have some fabulous combinations. There is NOT an OFF button when it comes to design, especially when it is your passion. It is so exhilarating when that happens until you become sleep deprived! What a beautiful room and that fabric you showed with the raised dot is fabulous!! Love it all. Keep up the good work!!

I love where you are going with this!! Clients balk at me when I tell them they need such vast amounts of fabric for their windows. I used 90 yards in my family/keeping room. It is what makes the room so lush and gorgeous! I can't wait to see what you do with this magnificent space!!! xox, Emily of Eleven Gables

Great fireplace! That makes me feel better that you can't "turn it off" either.

Oh, the curse of a designer. I tried to explain why I laughed out loud at this to my husband and I said "we designers need a support group or something" and my husband said, "no, then you'd just give each other more ideas and then no one sleeps." Ha, too true.
Can't wait to see this project finished!

Kuddos to all you professional designers out there. I can not even imagine being responsible for such a huge and EXPENSIVE job. But I sure as hell love watching you do it, Sherry. I'd be a complete blithering mess considering I wake up at 3:00 in the morning thinking about my own little bitty projects. It's all going to be simply gorgeous. Thanks for letting me ride along!

My mind never stops! That's why I come up with all my crazy ideas! I'm always thinking of what new or different way to do something.
I have been known to get up in the middle of the night and carry out my idea!!! Nuts, it's a disease!!!

And to think that non designers think that it's all a fun and pretty job!! We can tell just by your fabric labels the budget, and getting it right can make you insane, so get that! But you, my friend, have no worries on getting it right -- you always do!! Your samples are gorgeous, and the best part is when all is said and done and it all looks to die, and the client loves you, only YOU know the other versions it could have been ;-)

It's like being a parent, even when you're out for an evening out, you still think and talk all about them the whole time!
