THIS WEEK

I am not gonna lie....this was one crazy week.  I lost 2 days because of a short trip to Chicago to escort my husbands Dad to a doctor visit.  He is almost the picture of health at 94.

I do have a little problem though.  This decor.

If this is what I have to look forward to in my old age I am protesting right now.  No sir.  Not acceptable.  They have 30 years to update this crap  before I get there or they will have one cranky bitch to deal with.

In other news I have a client who needs 6 DR chairs so I went to Home Decorators to check these out....for color and comfort.

I was surprised to find these would work!  She has a couple of parsons host and hostess which will be upholstered in one of the patterns to go with the wallpaper.  Neutrals....surprise.

While I was there I looked around and saw these candlesticks.....

And jars.

I also took a stroll through Renaissance Tile for selections on a project.

Love these concrete tiles for the floor in one room which got the OK!

And last....since the ORC reveal is coming up I might as well tell you how hanging the curtains went down.  Normally I DO NOT participate in this activity.

There are so many factors that can go wrong....getting them level....too many holes with drywall and then wood....it can put me in such a mood that there is not enough wine in the state of Georgia to offset it.

You don't know the "ex bunny".  We have a saying around our family called "Maggie World".  Everything takes 5 minutes and is no problem.

We had 3 of these poles to cut.

We started with this tool....

After 15 minutes of trading out the job cause our arms were burning we switched to this one....
Yeah.....we got this.

Well we might as well have been using a butter knife....
I walked away no less than 5 times cussing....texting my installer to see if he was anywhere near to offer him WHAT EVER HE WANTED TO COME AND FINISH THIS JOB.

Meanwhile the Maggie was laughing the mean laugh like she was enjoying my pain.

It only took 4,325 hours but those suckers are up.

Happy Halloween

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 5

It was bound to happen.  I was walking around all cocky like I was president of the world or something.  So darn ahead of the game....somebody crown me Queen of the ORC.  I will give seminars on how to work this gig.  There will be a reality show......

Yeah....then BAM.  The fall was long and hard.  We had to go to Chicago to take my father in law to the doctors.

Crikey......will I even finish now?

I say that because I do have a few paying clients that might need some attention ya know?

Anyway before I left we did make a little progress.

Welcome to week 5 of the ORC!

The most fun you will ever have:)  To refresh you can read week one here

If you follow me on Instagram then you saw we played around with the art gallery wall.

There was only one problem.....the picture on the bottom left was just not working.  Too small and we only had 2 for the other side.

Since this is for family I can improvise:)  I told the ex bunny to paint something up before I got there.

Then I made a TV and laid it out on the floor.  While I was busy studying it my sister grabbed one and started banging nails into the wall.  Are you kidding me?  My whole head began to itch.  I am a "measurer" and she is an "eyeballer".

It might not look much different but when you see the whole wall you will get it!

Another last minute decision was adding another fabric.  Yes....I had an epiphany and decided I needed a touch of modern in the mix.  Enter KW Channels via Spark Modern  They were awesome handling my panicky need to get them ASAP!

Other decisions.....We ordered 2 of these to go behind the sofa.

This was another little cutie that came with my Minted order

It found it's way onto the shelves in the kitchen.

It's a work in progress for sure:)

These got hung in the kitchen but then.....I was rummaging through my closet and found this...

After hanging..... the pictures were relocated.

The relaxed roman shades got hung over the small square windows above the newly installed cabinets.

Since there was not 12 yards of greek key trim available and it we were starting to get close to the budget I decided to head over to Hobby Lobby and see if I could find a less expensive version.

I stumbled across these....

I like this one but felt maybe we were at our limit with blue.

So I am thinking the first one or this will win out at the great price of under $2.00 @yd.

I am not kidding when I say I have so much left to accomplish.  Styling everything will take ton's of time along with taking the reveal pictures and editing.

I am sure everyone else  has already finished and they are sitting back drinking and smirking at me.

But just to be sure why don't you read up on their progress!

Hopefully I can come up for air before next Wednesday!!!

ARTIST ASHLEY HIZER

It feels funny not to have a deadline this morning....the last three Mondays were for Project Design and then of course on Wednesdays we have the One Room Challenge.

I feel like I have been consumed by the ORC this time.....oh who am I kidding....they always take over my life.

But for design obsessed people like us it's only natural.

I wanted to alert you to an art sale this morning.  A few months ago while I was at the Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Designer Showhouse at Serenbe I picked up this little number by Ashley Hizer.

It's no surprise that when I see some pretty blue I go into some sort of trance.  I had no idea where I was going to use it.

You saw last week that it is actually going to be hung in my ORC project.

Ashley is an Atlanta based artist and she is having a sale starting today through Nov. 3rd.

Here are a few pieces I pulled from her site.

You can go to her site for all of her selections.

Funny thing is this morning I kept trying to put one of them in my cart and it said sold.  I was pissed cause that is the one I wanted for my ORC....only to realize it was the one I had already bought.

Gah.....it's a shame I'm so clever huh.

Maggie and I made huge leaps on her room the last few days.  There are a few things I can't decide on and I am seriously feeling the pressure to pull the trigger.

Hope your week is off to a good start....

GET A LOAD OF THIS

Morning y'all....it's Friday can I get an Amen?
I've got an interesting little ditty for you today.....check this out!

This room was photographed about 5 years ago for BH&G but they never used it [if you remember this was a guest room before it was "Baby G's" nursery. ]

Well I saw it in Better Homes and Gardens about a month ago talking about using yellow in a room.

Amazing huh?  They changed the wall color and the ceiling color with a little photoshop help.

Call me crazy but yikes I'm not exactly a fan.  That is the worst yellow ever.

Here is how it looked when it was transformed into a nursery

I found this quite amusing.

In other news do y'all remember when I posted about some new design books?

Well I got Simplicity by Nancy Braithwaite and Lord....this is one beautiful book.  It's like Nancy had me in mind when she designed the outside of this one.

Feast.

The inside cover....but wait....

The outside!

So when you have the cover on you see about an inch of the dots!  Brilliant!

Every page is stunning....

But hold on....this bedroom kicked me in the gut....hard.

Can I just copy this somewhere.  I mean down to every detail?  So classic but just throw in the dots and it's all cray cray right!  Imagine without them....just another beige room.

The pages.

Black.

Get it.

I will be working on my ORC this weekend.  The days are starting to run together now......with only 288 hours until the reveal.

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 4

Week 4 of the ORC has arrived which means 2 short weeks to go.  Yikes.

Just to recap.....if this is your first visit we have 20 designers....one room.....and 6 small weeks.  Emphasis on the 6 small weeks!

The CEO of all this is Linda from Calling It Home

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it....a challenge it is.

Enough yakking  right?  How about we get to the updates of the "bunny hutch" now.

I am doing my sister's [a former Playboy Bunny] family room.  You can read more about her here

The cabinets on both sides of the FP got painted and we decided on hardware.

That would be these from Anthropologie .
Swanky huh.

Those Mitchell Gold chairs came back from the upholster and  they look pretty darn great against the wallpaper.

I had a moment of panic that the whole room was looking like a bowl of oatmeal Translation: boring

The wallpaper was definitely a game changer.

I love how it looks next to the planks.

TV was moved....

The butcher block countertops

We have real progress in the kitchen with paint and shelves done!

Let's see....what else

After I saw Abby's great collection from Minted  [one of our sponsors] I got on the ball and ordered a few pieces to go along with my Ashley Hizer painting.  I didn't want to give it up but I think it will be perfect in "the hutch"!

At Scott's I purchased a small bench to go behind the sofa.  It was a steal at 40.00!

The light fixture was hug and I kind of love it.
You know me and "patina"....we're buds:)

And now the real work begins....putting the room together and styling it.

We all know that this is where things can go wrong.....always scared.

But whatev.  We aren't curing cancer here.

I am eager to see the updates from everyone else.
